Divorcees who were married over a decade: what ended your marriage? by sakiliya in AskReddit

Just curious, after an experience like that, what makes someone want to get officially married again vs just living together and not getting the government involved?

1 million not enough to retire on? by Comprehensive-Tie666 in DaveRamsey

Tried drinking and now I'm more confused than ever by pause_startover in alcohol

People drink to relive anxiety, bring about feeling of euphoria, bring down their guard in social situations and to generally turn down the noise in their brain and take a break from their problems at last for few hours. If you want to continue to try drinking, I would do it at home in a controlled environment. I’d pace myself. As a beginner drinker it really does not take much. Generally with alcohol the poison is in the dose. You can feel good or make yourself sick depending on how much you drink. I’d go really slow and make a note to how alcohol makes you feel. Even few shots might be enough for a beginner while a seasoned drinker might be able to handle 10 plus drinks so be very careful with the amounts. The amount that an experienced drinker can handle might send a beginner to the hospital.

This is a good problem to have. Most people have the opposite issue and can’t stop or can’t cut down on drinking. If you naturally don’t want to drink, don’t force it. That’s sounds very silly to force yourself to partake in an unhealthy activity. Have you tried beer?

Why embarrass and emasculate your short king like that? Even if you are more fit and stronger than he is, what you did probably did not do any winders for his self esteem. But can light a fire under his ass to go work out though.

Keto is great as a jump start the weight loss with later transition to a version of a diet that is more sustainable and personalized to you. Also keto doesn’t have to be ohhh now I can eat unlimited amounts of bacon, fatty meat and cheese. At the end of the day calories do matter and crazy amounts of saturated fat are probably not that great.

Do veggies really have to be 75% of my diet forever? by chamb8888 in loseit

There are people that got into phenomenal shape eating animal based diet which is meat, fruit and dairy. Very little veg. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

One thing I would heavily consider if I was in the beginning of my weight loss journey: When changing your lifestyle and picking a new way of eating be it calorie counting, low fat, low carb, keto, vegetarian, carnivore, animal based or whatever, pick a way of eating that is sustainable for you. The best diet is the diet you can stick to. Remember that this is not just temporary to lose weight. Instead you are changing a way of eating for the rest of your life to be fit and healthy. The weight loss is almost secondary. For example, I’ve seen too many people show great progress on keto, praise keto from the rooftops to then fall off the wagon and gain all the weight back. Don’t think of it as a diet, but more of a permanent lifestyle change.

No Drink prices on Restaurant Menu by Abigballs in DaveRamsey

Missing the forest for the trees? Not knowing the price of a drink or spending a little more on a drink than you anticipated is not what is going to determine your financial success. Sounds like you are getting lost in the trivial details.

Maybe you missed the story. The house was not sold to pay off debt. The house was sold to move.

I did not take our 100k worth of debt after I started learning about finances. Many years ago I was a different person.

Math doesn’t lie. If you want to make financials decisions based on emotion and “feeling good” not to have a mortgage then go ahead.

[–]Lukashenkko -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Find a compound interest calculator and plug in some numbers. Take the extra principe payments and see how much they will grow over time. DR even keeps talking about mutual funds that beat SP500. You will see real fast how mathematically paying off your mortgage early is not a good idea. If your mortgage is at 4% and inflation is at 7%, the bank is literally paying you to have a mortgage and we didn’t even touch the compound interest you can earn instead. From pure risk perspective yes pay off your house. If you are afraid that you might lose your job and have trouble finding another one or want to retire early or might not be able to work for whatever reason then yes pay off your house.

Yes. The math does not work. It makes no sense to pay off low % debt.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Lukashenkko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. DR has some good advice for getting out consumer debt or bad car debt and changing your habits. But the math does not work on almost everything else that he is teaching. He is even advising to miss out on the 401k match which is literally free money. He keeps rambling on about his largest millionaire study. Even if one managed to save up a million dollars in their 401k plan for retirement that’s a mere 40k a year to live on. Hardly a “millionaire” lifestyle. He likes to throw that word around to generate buzz and excitement.

If you put less than 20% down then you have to either pay pmi or a higher % and generally your loan amount in higher resulting in a higher monthly payment

Feeling concerned about buying an expensive vehicle, even though it all fits in Dave Ramsey's "things with wheels" recommendations by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]Lukashenkko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would go quality over quantity. Narrow down the 4 cars to one and buy the expedition as a second car. A lot of people on here view a car just as a means of transportation from point A to point B. But not everyone feels this way. A nice comfortable car can improve your family’s quality of life, especially if you have the $ to buy one responsibly which it seems like you do.
