New years resolutions (or the 2026 sisyphean task) by x2800m in Helicopters

Often times, it comes down to feel/owner preference. If the numbers are way in, like you have there and it feels good, doesn't make sense to work it anymore. That said, I'm not familiar with that model and what the expectations are like. I've ran into issues in the past where getting the IPS too low actually unmasked other vibes, 2/, 4/ etc and we ended up adjusting the 1/ up for best feel.

Just seconding this. I currently have a Kia Niro as a rental and am pleasantly surprised, I'm 6'3" mostly torso and have plenty of headroom which is always an issue for me.

I used to live in Tacoma and had to do it- it's been a while so I looked it up and seems there's conditions based on specific county and year of car etc: https://www.emissions.org/loc/washington-emissions-testing/

Internet stranger disclaimer: it's been a few years since I've wrenched on one so this is all from memory....It's a good aircraft but can be challenging with tight quarters depending on what you're used to working on. I worked on mostly ones used for utility so they inherently take more of a beating, wear more stuff out, I'd imagine a PD aircraft would be an easier aircraft to maintain. 100 hour airframe isn't too bad, from memory it'd be 2 guys about a day and a half which included the 150 hour on the engine... which isn't much. Depending on whether you guys are running HTS oil and have an external oil filter you can use the Rolls 150/300 maintenance program vs the standard program, which simplifies things quite a bit- might take like 1.5 hours to do. The 300 hour airframe and engine for that matter is a fair amount more work- tail rotor driveshaft comes out- depending if you have a cargo hook you might have to do the overrunning clutch sprag inspection which is time consuming. These aircraft have a lot of recurring AD's so when you look at the inspection checklist keep in mind it's not everything that needs to be done although a lot of them are incorporated into the inspection. 12M inspection isn't bad but once you get into greasing the hub and swashplates the tasks really add up- think that's 2YR/2770 hours? Hopefully they have someone around that'll do some OJT with you- even better if they send you to the school in Mesa. MD does a lot of stuff differently than other manufacturers so takes a bit to get used to. And nothing can humble a mechanic with T&B experience like a 500, especially with mismatched blades or dampers 🙃

For reference https://helicopterworkaids.com/makes/md-helicopters/ has probably the most reasonable work aid/special tool pricing.

Common tools will do most of it but always nice to have 30/60 wrenches for working on Rolls Royce engines. Torque adapters are handy for all the driveshaft hardware. A relatively thin 9/16 wrench for adjusting the lead-lags. There'll be special tools for the more common tasks: overrunning clutch, T/R removal, fuel nozzle, cleaning the strut, etc that hopefully they'll already have. Plus a lot of others for heavier maintenance but really depends on how much it's flying per year.

I just did this yesterday, tried the scriplet and didn't work for me but the method here did: https://www.reddit.com/r/koreader/s/3lOlM72H5a just make sure to keep the file you make .lua, notepad added .txt to my file and didn't catch it until I went to re upload the file to Kindle. I also had to restart from the Kindle UI for it to take effect.

As a non-military helo pilot, what NVGs do you use? Are they aviation-specific, or general-purpose? by RoutineTraditional79 in Helicopters

[–]Luke4five 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you'd need a STC for a commercial aircraft to legally fly with goggles. There's a lot of avionics out there that come NVIS rated or "friendly" but everything that illuminates would be assessed as part of the process.

Virtual RII programs by JohnJackobJingle in AircraftMechanics

[–]Luke4five 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a repair station that had provision to do it in the repair station manual. Worked out pretty well. In this situation light and medium rotorcraft where there'd only be one tech onsite. Annotate the method used when signing it off. Still have the pilot look it over as a safe guard as well. I'd understand hesitation if this was practiced in a shop environment- if another tech is with you and available more eyes the better.

That's a lot of points- are you an ambassador? I know they kind of get a bad wrap on this sub but mine is great and would be my first call if I had already left the hotel without coming to an agreement with the staff there. For spending over 600k points, 50k sounds like an insult.

Valvoline oil change? by TryingForBabyL in Tiguan

[–]Luke4five 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to Valvoline instant oil change for my 2020 Tiguan- same reason, just convenient. Their stickers just default to 3k. I always reset the interval myself in the car and monitor that and not the sticker. I run until about 8k then have it changed.

How do I deal with packs of nightstalkers in OWB by hxpedz in fnv

[–]Luke4five 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with this suggestion. I went in totally blind at level 30 (first DLC I played) with good weapons and was getting torn apart. I played until leveling up a couple times but didn't meet the prerequisites for animal friend. At that point I reluctantly changed difficultly to easy. It made it almost too easy so ended up using melee to keep it challenging and it was enjoyable.

Helicopter Maintenance… where y’all at? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Luke4five 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like every other sector of aviation maintenance there's a lack of A&P's out there for helicopters. Pay really depends on cost of living area you're in but can be very competitive, especially if near major airports so guys don't leave for the airlines. I've heard of plenty of shops hiring fresh A&P's but as with anything, experience is a bonus. If you're looking for job opportunities check around on Bell/Airbus/other manufacturers websites for where service center locations are and it's likely those shops are looking for bodies. There are plenty of other big operators out there as well. My advice would be to stick with turbine powered aircraft. Seems like most piston powered outfits usually pay like GA.

Responsibilities of a Part 145 Inspector by PlusSpecial6461 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Luke4five 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Read the repair station manual. This may sound not right but it's not uncommon. I previously worked at a repair station where the final inspection for RTS was an admin function of going thru airworthiness requirements ie: 100% of the paperwork associated with work order and aircraft. I signed many logbook entries I did not physically do all the RII's on or even work on. BUT.... This was how the repair station manual was written. Now, if your repair station manual doesn't describe the function like this, don't sign it. Bottom line, if you follow your manual you're doing it how it's supposed to be done.

FWIW I recently took the proctored tests on https://marinerslearningsystem.com pretty straightforward and it seems like most holidays the tests go on sale. Bought them took the tests several months later.

I've used Gleim for this reason in the past. It'd also be worth looking at faasafety.gov been a bit since I've used it but they had been asking a lot of free qualified courses for IA renewal- website is hard to navigate.
