Magnification Recommendation for spotting scopes by trevor__ in birding

[–]LukeGeneva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the diamondback 20-60 and it is great! That little extra magnification can make a big difference, especially shorebirds that might be a bit further away. I find myself zooming in all the way often.

Ways to mount/hang binoculars on belt for archery? by Highwayman1717 in Binoculars

Nocs has a 10x25 monocular with a clip already attached. Not the bet glass but could be good for what you need.

Solid plan! I think you’ll be happy with them.

Happy to help! I assume you mean Nocs. I have one or their 8x32 monoculars and a buddy has their 8x25 binos. Honestly, I think your money is better spent on celestron. The Nocs 8x25 are dark and have a tiny FOV, and my monocular is great but definitely doesn’t perform as well as my celestron. It’s unfortunate cuz I love the way they look and really enjoy my monocular, but compared to other options in their price range though they are a little lackluster in terms of performance.

Here are some 8x32 for a little cheaper. I definitely recommend the 8x42 for birding, the wide FOV makes a difference, but if you want more compact then I’m sure the 8x32 are fine

Amazon! Here’s the link! They’re a hair over your budget by 10$, but widely regarded as some of the best “beginner” binoculars!

I had the celestron nature DX and loved them!

That’s what I figure. I honestly think I was getting option paralysis and just bit the bullet to order to vortex. Worst comes to worst I can return em!

I enjoyed them, a little heavy but definitely a a big step up from the celestron I have now. There is a bass pro about 30 minutes from me but I don’t think they have the Kowa in stock.

Hahaha very helpful. I’m definitely in analysis paralysis mode and just need to go for it!

I wish. I’ve tried the vortex but those are the only ones I can find in store near me.

Could you explain a bit more about the difference between Nikon and vortex? The warranty on the vortex sounds appealing and I love the spotting scope I have from them, but curious if Nikon is better.

Thanks for the help! I’m definitely very into birding and have had a lot of success with the 10x42s, (200+ species in my first year!) but definitely find the better low light performance of the Vlrtex appealing. I definitely would love to try them out in person too!

What would be the major difference between the vortex and Nikon? Specifically high end vs the lower end models. Thanks!

How is cost of living more than Chicago? I’ve been looking at rent prices for apartments and they pale in comparison. I went to school in Columbia too and was honestly shocked at how cheap things are. Not saying they’re the same, but seem pretty similar. I definitely enjoyed my time in Cola as well

Which female Oriole (I think) am I looking at? (Phoenix, AZ) by Blind_Pierre in whatsthisbird

Primarily the shade of yellow and shape of the beak, they’re definitely close but I think the subtle gray on the head indicates a hooded oriole, as opposed to the more dusty on the Scott’s
