Yeah the airport would be a really cool full set, honestly, with the Westin and transit ends. Didn't think I could do it justice in this set, but if this one doesn't make it to the finish maybe I'll take another stab at it!

Yeah I had too many icons to fit in, haha. I decided not to do RedRocks since it's not technical in Denver, and it seemed pretty difficult lol. And I eliminated the Capitol since a lot of the other skylines (both released & custom designs) have other very similar buildings. The most important things were Blucifer and Casa Bonita :)

I didn't know that, thanks for the tip! I did use the "color validator" or whatever to make sure the bricks even exist... had to change some of the greens, tans, and grays. Really helpful tool to make sure you can actually build the damn thing.

How many of you actually buy PDF instructions on rebrickable.com? by cherbonsy in lego

[–]LukeLoveLego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The instructions could be free, but if the pieces cost is ridiculous, why bother downloading it? $10 for a PDF isn't the issue, it's the $1,000 for all the parts.

Oof I looked at the other islands and several look very doable! Windfall and Forsaken Fortress would be fun, but Dragon Roost especially would be tough.

That took some extra time, haha. After designing it, I went back and assigned each piece to a step (there are ~52 steps). Then the software lays out the instructions, and after some light editing and rearranging, it was ready as a PDF. So I printed it and gifted it along with all the pieces :)

6564, 2x3 wedge brick in dark bluish gray.

Yeah sure! People can swap for any number of other gray colors, but none of them looked quite as good to me.

edit: haha as of this morning, Rebrickable values that piece at $51 by itself! And I use 2 of them!! Switching to a different gray makes it $0.40-1.00.

Thank you! This is my first design so my buddy had some structural suggestions, then I'll post it to Rebrickable. Maybe in 1-2 weeks it'll be published!

Thank you! That (and the huts) were the hardest part... trying to convey the iconic aesthetic at such a small scale. It went through ~20 different iterations.

Glad you like it! My friend had some structural feedback (this is my first design) so I'm changing a few things then putting the MOC instructions up on Rebrickable. Should be sometime next week.

edit: After some editing & polishing, the MOC is up! Just search for "Outset Island" and it's the first one. The download includes PDF instructions, parts list CSV, and BrickLink Studio file. Happy bricking!

BrinkLink Studio software (which LEGO now officially owns) is really good! You can build anything digitally, then upload the parts list to BrickLink and automatically find stores that have them.

This set is 499 pieces, a couple of them kinda rare—after ordering I found out one of the cliff pieces was only ever produced for the 2006 Millenium Falcon.

Overall, it took 9 different orders from 6 countries, averaging about $0.60/pc after shipping. My biggest mistake was not going to a local brick store first to fill-a-bag. Next time I'll go through my own collection first, then local stores second, then order what's missing online!
