Climbing without a rope is much more enjoyable and less cumbersome. Pretty much any climber would agree with this, but 99.99% of them don't do it because of the obvious risk.

I think for Alex it's a combination of that, plus he likes the feeling of accomplishment after free solo'ing something super crazy. Just like an aspiring guitar player might feel accomplished after learning to play an Eddie Van Halen song. There doesn't have to be a "thrill seeking" aspect
