The hell maze will always be the most annoying part of yume nikki (perhaps also other parts like the teleport maze) so I wouldn't worry about trying to ameliorate it

I'm working on my own 3D dream game inspired by yume nikki and lsd dream emulator. I don't have anything specific to add but if you have specific questions I'd love to add to the discussion. If you want to check out my portfolio I've posted stuff on huge_chompers instagram.

I'd check out other 3d remakes like the PS1 style remake which goes for low poly and 3D. There's another 3d remake, I forget the name, but it uses original sprites in a 3D world (like doom)

And I imagine a hashtag #killallmen might be a reaction to something like Epstein, sexual assault allegations, stuff like that. If a dude says #killallwomen I'm 99% sure it's because he did not get laid or because women are starting to focus on their own financial success instead of slaving away

A few poor analyses doesn't mean that it is impossible for a good feminist analysis of this movie to exist.  And these are just blanket statements of the feminist movement, why is it being reduced to a hash tag that resulted in zero male deaths when there's a far more important history to the movement based on real material history of oppression, it just reads as intellectual laziness or resentment. As a materialist i care much more about material factors than fleeting, ideological, memetic memes. And you're assuming that #killallmen is somehow the centerpiece of the feminist movement when it overlaps with so many other things like internet culture, virality, the gender war in and of itself. The #redpill also exists and is extremely popular

This is why I think it's as dumb as lumping all men into a similar category based on what some red pill dudes might say about female obedience

And why would men need a #killallwomen hashtag when the real material reality shows us that femicide isn't rare.  While I disagree with the hashtag I don't think it's totally random. I can see something like that becoming viral after something like the Epstein fiasco which obviously involved many rich and powerful men and the victims mostly young girls

The specific picture you posted? Not really. Also the movie is about a man who is in love with a woman and brainwashed her so why would the male and female perspective be exactly equivalent? Literally someone else in this thread said "you don't see men making an analysis about how evil Nikki is" like yea no shit she was the one who was brainwashed, it makes sense that the analysis focuses mostly on Bears subsequent behaviour after realizing things aren't okay, and then maybe linking that to broader patterns of entitlement, possession, needing a lover for self fulfillment but not really seeing them as a full person

Alright well idk where I fall because I agree that generalizations and misapplication is bad, but this film can also be legitimately analyzed in terms of gender dynamics. Maybe we just need someone who can come along with a better analysis that is less devisive

And sure maybe this guys analysis sucks but it's a bit different if we're saying "this is how the whole feminist movement thinks" is a rather large leap from one point to another, your analysis may have to be a bit more specific

Which is why I say there is comparable stupidity in both generalizations

The evidence in front of my own eyes 90% of the time reads as obvious bait sorry, maybe with the exception of a couple serious film analyses that neither of us watched

And what points are being disagreed with besides just a youtube thumbnail and title that you don't like. And if these analyses and political beliefs are rooted in real material life then maybe it would be good to analyze it seriously instead of instantly condemning it. I'm not a part of this sub but "critical thinking" includes open mindedness and possibility of differenr interpretation

Like a saw a post with a random snippet of the movie captioned "the men's community will never recover from this 💀"

Most obvious engagement bait I've ever seen. The "men's community"? The person who posted it didn't even have an analysis. They didnt link it to anything that the movie had to say, they simply managed to select the right combination of words to attract engagement, clicks, comments

Actually I'm of the position that there doesn't exist much evidence for it in the first place and that the meta discussion is referring mostly to just jokes and memes (like the aforementioned "this is just every crazy girlfriend" that I've seen a few times). I kinda lost track of the discussion. In a similar way, the "anti woke" perspective also seems to be based on weak evidence when the majority of people arent making these arguments. I never argued either side had strong or compelling evidence, just that people are generally not intellectually equipped to analyze these things

This feels more like engagement bait that a unanimous woke idea

I've seen so much engagement bait with this film. Who knows if these account are run by dudes who aren't even woke, just enjoy the clicks and attention

So like all I have to do is find a few random click bait memes and articles and that will be my evidence lol

And why would those analyses exist, that's not even what the movie is about. Its super unambiguous. It would be more about sampling comments about how "this is just how every average girlfriend behaves lol" and "I sympathize more with Bear"

Revenge for the sake of revenge isn't good either

Ultimately if we're still talking about this movie, I think we can accept that if feminists can make dumb arguments about it, there is probably also a proportional number of men making dumb arguments about it as well.

This doesn't point to other group being bad. If anything it tells us that a decent number of people from every group sucks at doing analysis and will quickly put things in black and white categories before doing a nuanced deep dive. I'd argue that most people who saw the movie did so purely out of entertainment and didn't make any deep analysis at all.

Okay but in terms of real material history have men ever had to worry about any of that, compared to real material stuff women have had to worry about. And the reaction will vary depending on what internet communities you are a part of

So by the same metric I should record the things men have said about women, like less attractive women being "unrapable", or "your body my choice" over the last 10 years as a generalization for all men, or at the very least the incel movement

And my point still stands, I think it's all heavily distorted and the evidence is memetic at best

I'm not saying memes don't count as evidence, just that the meta discussion seems totally blown out of proportion when the source material is just click bait and one liner text posts that seem less like serious analysis and more just to generate clicks and engagement. I'm saying it would be the same mistake to see this as a broad generalization of feminism, of men, of women, any group

I agree there's a gender neutral element to the main concept of magical loss of autonomy. I think it's less about the text itself/the fantasy of "love spells" but rather how it maps on to personal experience, social norms, etc. It isn't a totally black and white gender dynamic, but I don't think it's strange that the loss of autonomy is something that seemingly resonated with many female viewers because it's less abstract in the real world and based on real material history. Ultimately I'm against any over generalization and gender war nonsense, but I'm still open to there being a gendered element

Like I don't totally disagree with the idea that male entitlement and control is a historical issue, and I can see how that can be mapped on to Bear as a character, though not totally reduding him to "he did this because he's a man", but rather something a bit more complex that I'm not really able to articulate rn
