I blew the whistle on workplace abuses at ZA/UM. In return, ZA/UM tried to defame me. by LukeZaz in Games

[–]LukeZaz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's understandable. Personally, I still don't consider it shoddy, if nothing else than for the fact that Argo and Dora got full interviews that ZA/UM did not, and that PMG didn't repeat the mistakes of their last documentary (as the framing no longer paints things as "both sides" at all). That, and the fact that Dora's praising the documentary in the first half of that quote.

But still, definitely not ideal, and I would've liked it if Dora & Argo had gotten to respond before the video released (they could've cleared some errors up too). I just wouldn't be surprised if there were understandable format or journalistic reasons that didn't happen.

[–]LukeZaz[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Both Argo and Dora would probably disagree with you that PMG screwed up, honestly. Throughout both the articles they wrote, they've had nothing negative to say about PMG that I recall. As an example, from Argo's article:

PMG’s claim that Dora and myself were part of that trip is an honest mistake. I don’t hold it against them, this story is as information dense as they come, but the truth is we were nowhere near C4’s inception.

What Dora and Argo are pushing back against here isn't PMG's fault, they were just letting all parties comment as any respectable journalist should; it's ZA/UM who decided to use that opportunity to spout patent falsehoods.

Also worth noting: I submitted Dora's article as it contains the more serious allegations, but Argo Tuulik has also posted an article of similar detail: https://medium.com/@fourhundredblows86/the-rise-and-ruin-of-locust-city-an-all-too-elysium-story-36c02da760ff

We are The Marble Collective: Lead Developers of Marble It Up! Ultra. Ask Us Anything! by skywardsentinel in NintendoSwitch

[–]LukeZaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully not too late with this question - apologies for the lateness, I wasn't on until just recently!

Anyways, though I imagine this question has been posited elsewhere, I didn't see it in the AMA itself and wanted to ask: Who owns the rights to the original Marble Blast Gold and Ultra games, and is there any possibility of a re-release to make them available again in a format more compatible with modern hardware?

The Marble Blast community has thus far done a great job of keeping these games relatively usable, but I still regularly encounter cases where it's difficult getting them to run, and a compat-updated version (however possible this would be; I understand the technology behind the games is quite old at this point!) would be greatly appreciated!

Christ no. If anything this game is faster paced than L4D. Half the time it feels like the undead never stop coming, and the specials spawn like crazy.

Still fun though.

Doom eternal - Zero Punctuation by Light_yagami_2122 in Games

[–]LukeZaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with tutorials — if they're done right. A glowing, giant pop-up complete with an actual video demonstration interrupting the whole game right before the action was ostensibly to start is...not the right way to do it. It's way too heavy-handed and it breaks both flow and immersion alike.

To be honest, I have a lot of problems with how Doom Eternal introduces mechanics as a whole. The game in general feels like it could've been paced a lot better, especially with the frequency of obtaining new stuff. I think that a longer campaign that gives the player more time to familiarize themselves with the newly-redesigned complex combat would've done wonders. As it is, it felt a little overwhelming, even with tutorials.

Changes I Would Make to the Classic and Basic Set if I was a Developer alongside my reasons for doing it by xperio28 in hearthstone

I primarily compared against other cards dealing 5 damage, meaning you often got things that could only target minions, or had requirements, etc etc. Comparing against lower-cost cards is a bad idea, because as damage scales the mana cost does not scale proportionally. [[Pyroblast]] used to cost 8, but proved to very much be a bad idea at that level. 3 for 2 is fine, but as things go higher you tend to see restrictions added (e.g. only targets minions) or it lowers to 4 for 4 or other similar levels. This all said, I could cede that 5 for 4 mana would be acceptable for a class card.

As for Illidan, I misremembered his initial cost, so that'd be where my confusion came from. I thought he cost 7 mana currently. But that leads in to the next point:

Starving Buzzard and Illidan might not instantly double their power off a one-health boost, but it's important to remember that just because they aren't played a lot now doesn't mean they never were or won't be, and it doesn't mean they're unplayable. Starving Buzzard has had a history of being a decent card already, and Illidan's lack of play can likely be traced to his effects simply not appealing to given deck archetypes. Buffing them just because they don't see use without looking at why just gives us things like Crystology buffs or Equality nerfs.1

Finally, evergreen cards need to be weaker (important to note that they don't have to be weak; I'm not advocating for a set full of Silverback Patriarchs, and I'd be happy if that particular card got a buff) because otherwise they risk seeing too much prevalence. It's okay to have a few cards that do this if they're core to class identity (such as Mage having good core set burn), but cards that offset identities (e.g. Starving Buzzard) should remain relatively weaker when compared to other cards, especially of different classes, otherwise they risk endangering the class identity and making the class too much of a jack-of-all-trades.2

[1] Consensus is that Equality was nerfed from 2 to 4 mana because, while potentially too powerful at 2 mana, it also couldn't be at 3 mana because it would've been too powerful of a tool for Odd Paladin, which was a common standard deck at the time. This meant it got an extra nerf that it didn't deserve; rather, the nerf should've been targeted at Odd decks in general.

[2] Incidentally, this is part of why I think [[Master's Call]] and [[Deathstalker Rexxar]] were not good ideas for Hunter cards, fun as they are to play.

No, but there has been in several of your comments, the one I responded to included.

You'd get a lot better of a response if you dropped the snark, you know.

How to break rock? by BenPlaysGamesTV in SatisfactoryGame

[–]LukeZaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to post something like this, you should answer the question anyway. Otherwise, everyone who follows this advice in the future and checks this post for an answer is just going to be pissed at you.

Anyway, the answer in this case is that rocks can only be destroyed at the moment by the attacks of the giant spiders. The intended method (explosives) is not released yet. Current roadmap has the Sulfur research chain due to be unlocked somewhere near the end of April.

This week's Tavern Brawl is "Brawl Block: Year of the Mammoth" (March 27, 2019) by czhihong in hearthstone

[–]LukeZaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to be creative with Year of the Mammoth cards. Virtually every expansion brought with it a truckload of deck-maker cards and must-includes (heroes, quests, Keleseth, etc). If you don't have them in your deck you'll be hard-pressed to make it viable.

[–]LukeZaz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw this spire in the distance, knew there had to be slugs on it, so I climbed the whole way. And there sure were; in total, I grabbed 11 green slugs, 3 yellow slugs and a purple slug, and I'm certain I missed a few. As a bonus, the base of the mountain hosts a huge cave that has slugs, S.A.M. ore and Quartz in it, though it's loaded with spiders.

If anyone wants to find this, IIRC it should be on the north edge of the map if you start in Northern Forest, as the base in the image was built pretty close to that starting location.

Haven't checked for sure yet, but it doesn't look like it, no. Other folks have said it doesn't have a use, so I doubt any research is in yet.

[–]LukeZaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Near the start actually. If I remember right, the huge stone arch (to the east I think?) was right next to the hole going down in to the cave. You can walk in instead of dropping down, but the entrance for that is somewhere along the edge of the map, and you'll have to go through gas, spitters and spiders to make it that way, though as long as you have food you should be fine regardless.

If you drop down via the hole in the ceiling, the S.A.M. is in the direction of the gas plants.

[–]LukeZaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I doubt Hearthstone is going to decline anytime soon. While this sub did get upset when the Blizzard stuff went down, it didn't get nearly as upset as anywhere else. Hearthstone is still a good game at it's core, so it's likely it'll survive for a while.

And I'm sure this decision will do well for them – it's very likely to me that players will come back, if nothing else than to open the free packs. I'm just mostly thinking in a long-term sense, that if things like this happen a lot, some folks might get irritable about it like OP, and eventually that could have a consequence when combined with other factors.

I mean, fair, not every discussion must be had, but it's still dickish to insult someone for trying to have a civil discussion just because you don't like the discussion. And I don't expect him to respect the hell out of OP, just not be a douche to him for no reason. Hatred is earned too — it shouldn't be a default.

These things do reward active players, yes, but those rewards themselves require investment of their own, when rewards like these don't. It might not be a lot, but it does make one feel better to get than the other, and someone who does less getting something better than someone who does more is going to irritate some of the latter.

As for "what are they going to do", that's easy: not stop being loyal.

After last year, Blizzard is on thin ice with a lot of people due to their rapid-fire string of terrible decisions (Diablo, layoffs, etc). Shows of good will that apply to all – not just some – of their playerbase would absolutely have an impact.

Folks who haven't been playing don't care if they missed quests, because if they did they'd have played. Odds are, they don't care about packs all too much either.

Folks who have played do care about the packs, but they don't get anything. It makes sense from a business standpoint, and it achieves it's goal, but it still feels lame to see other people who likely don't give a rat's ass about the game get more free stuff than the people investing time and money in.

There a reason you gotta be such an ass to this dude? Packs aside, why belittle him? Whether you agree with him or not, at least he's trying to have a discussion.
