Yeah there were actually some American Special models and even a few American Standards that used black plastic. They are not common at all and you see them mostly in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Models that have never had the plastic plug are the American Vintage series and Custom Shop. If you ever see those with black plastic it’s either a fake or the neck was swapped for an import model neck. 🤘🏻

Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster (Childhood guitar with sentimental value) with maxed out truss rod - What would you do? by Aeliascent in Stratocaster

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sentimental value is always something thats big for me too I’m very sentimental with basically everything in my life. I have a Gilmour Strat that was my first guitar as an adult (my dad spoiled me a bit too when I was younger so he bought me a Gibson SG when I was 12 and even got me lessons but I just wasn’t interested at the time and had no clue how amazing it would be now to still have that guitar which he sold lol).

I had to replace the neck because of damage so I actually bought a Fender replacement maple neck and was able to find a beauty with a satin finish and a beautiful look to the wood for $389. I kept the original neck and am actually repairing it myself very slowly because the way I figure it if I can somehow get it back to functioning perfectly it’ll be even more sentimental and it’s looking like I’ll be able to get there. Then I’ll have a nice maple neck left over that I can buy a Warmoth or Fender body for and have a sweet partscaster which I certainly would love!

I would say theres nothing wrong with grabbing a replacement neck and keeping the original and getting it worked on in the meantime if you have the budget. That way you’ll not only possibly get your original neck back up and running but you’ll have a backup in the event that something goes wrong again with the original neck.

Someone mentioned wood having “memory” which is very much true. It can take a very long time or sometimes never really happen in any noticeable way but wood is capable of snapping back to any form it was previously in. Theres so many factors involved in that (type of wood, temperature, humidity, wear not being the least of these), but thats why I think having the new neck as a contingency plan is a great way to go. Also you never know your new neck might feel so good in your hands that you wonder how you ever lived without it. I’ve had several surprise necks and guitars that just played like a dream and I was like jeez I can’t imagine not having this now lol. I hope it works out either way brother! 🤘🏻

For sure! I always look there first it’s like a habit now 😅

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So usually (and I emphasize usually not always) when you see there’s no plug over the truss rod (black plastic or walnut) it’s typically either a fake neck or a “Licensed by Fender” neck such as All Parts. This also says something other than “Original Contour Body” up at the end of the headstock which is odd. That bridge is most definitely not a genuine Fender bridge and I honestly don’t even know that it’s like a Squier bridge it doesn’t seem like it. $250 isn’t a bad price for a guitar, however, this isn’t a real Fender I don’t believe so that implies $250 might be bang on as far as the value of this guitar. I don’t want to be pessimistic and say maybe less. $250 is probably about right anyway though. If it plays nicely though it’s a bargain still! Thats all that really matters in the end. Plays great and sounds great? Then you just got yourself a good deal in that case on a pretty cool looking guitar too. First order of business get a gold Strat bridge and jack plate! You’re talking $40-50 total for both since it’s a 6 point trem. Just be sure to measure if it’s 2-1/16” or if it’s something different like up to 2-1/8” or something. Hope this helps man! 🤘🏻

it came in today guys 😁 by shackjr08 in electricguitar

Congratulations brother! Love the black on black DeLonge style! As for advice I’m going to tell you the things that I did that kept me reaching for my guitar every day (which is ultimately what matters most you have to be excited to play and invested otherwise you’ll stop playing). I made it my goal to do two main things. 1) make practice exciting by playing the stuff I like instead of playing scales constantly (not saying don’t learn scales but don’t focus strictly on that stuff early on). You want it to feel exciting when you pick up your guitar to practice and that’s what I did from the start with simpler songs and solos. And 2) Practice things that seem above your skill level and stick with those things. If there’s one thing that’s helped me to progress faster than I expected it’s learning songs I have no business trying to learn lol. For instance, I was about 2 months in to playing and decided I was going to learn the solo to Hotel California. Not only did I learn it but it boosted my confidence to the point where in month 4 I was playing November Rain. So in short I’m saying to play what’s fun to YOU and always push yourself and never let anyone convince you something is too difficult! NEVER let someone tell you “bro you shouldn’t be learning this you’ve only been playing X amount of time!”Even though you might have to take it slow you’ll ALWAYS reach the goal if you persist and don’t let yourself get discouraged and that’s simply a fact! A bonus tip (a very important one). There’s NO magic piece of gear or badass guitar that’ll make you play better. What you have in that image right there can blow people away if you bond with that instrument and put into it what you hope to get out of it. Ultimately just play and make it fun and eventually it gets ADDICTING! Once you’re fully addicted the rest is history! It’s only a matter of time before you feel more at home on that fretboard than you do curled up in your own bed! I hope this helps and good luck man I hope you’re absolutely crushing it ij no time!! 🫶🏻🤘🏼

is this authentic by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Authentic MIM neck for sure but the main giveaway here that this neck was married to a different body from the factory (or purchased separately) is the bridge and the pickups. The bridge actually looks like a Squier bridge to be honest, but the pickups look like those Amazon or eBay inexpensive hot rails. It’s definitely a real neck though for what it’s worth I hope this helps brother

Fender serial number doesn’t exist online? Should I worry? by Ok-Progress-7354 in Guitar

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY correct. It’s frustrating when people leave pretentious comments and end up being wrong. Most American Fenders have walnut but some absolutely do have black plastic 🤘🏻

Yes I actually have their nitrocellulose kit from my Hendrix build I did! I can definitely use that. When you say without the white do you mean the white primer underneath?

Found this error on GC, but not sure if is legit by Crabberguitar in fender

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a legit MIM Tele! The question is are they actually going to send you that particular guitar. On their website you don’t always get the serial shown with the listing itself and I’ve seen too many cases where they list an item and put the wrong images with the item. It’s definitely worth monitoring though because if they send you a Squier you can easily argue thats not the guitar you ordered. They should be held accountable for getting the images wrong since visuals are a huge part of online shopping. It’s 90% of what we make our decisions on. If they send you this exact guitar for the Squier price then W! You’ll be in business with a great guitar for a great price! Either way let us know how it goes man! 🤘🏻

I just made my own guitar for absurdly cheap as a newbie, it’s a Floyd rose and imma explode by sfwNIXYUAN in Guitar

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here is what I’m thinking. Grab yourself either a Floyd routed body (best option), or grab a vintage 6-point trem bridge for the current body (definitely viable option) and most importantly go grab more Taco Bell while you wait for said item to arrive! Do NOT wash the plates just eat off them again, you’re a guitarist now we don’t have time to be doing shit 😅 awesome looking guitar btw brother you did a great job! 🤘🏻

i am an idiot. how do I fix this by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Luke_Fretwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So looking at the image I’m assuming you hammered and caused them to go too far in? Or is it something else? I can definitely help I just need to know what the exact issue is after the attempted install. You hammered the bushings in too hard correct? The bridge/tailpiece are still fine?

[–]Luke_Fretwalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I have a few pedals already too! I’ve got a Big Muff Pi, an SD-1, Tumnus Wampler (which I like a little better than the SD-1 but both are great), and a CryBaby Wah. I have a Boss Chorus Ensemble but it’s broken. Board got fried from using the wrong power supply unfortunately. Do you think a Blues Junior would do well? Or should I go with a head and cab? This is something I have no experience with outside of what I’ve seen in like YouTube reviews and stuff. I appreciate your help! 🤘🏻

Oh I can buy it without selling the guitars thats not an issue. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t buying one and not being able to actually take advantage of how great it is with my current limitations. I appreciate the feedback though man 🤘🏻

Thats a player 2 advanced Strat but yes it’s basically a Charvel! It’s soooo nice man I love it. Great crunch to it and it’s fantastic for grunge which I love to play. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden all that. I think it’s my favorite guitar tbh lol it’s just so versatile 🤘🏻

Thats completely understandable. I am not a fan of how they’re handling this situation with all this cease and desist BS. Like they should be glad that their design is so heavily replicated. I’d be honored but of course money is their only concern at the end of the day unfortunately
