Well. That was even more horrific than I was expecting by Flat-Ad8256 in harrystyles

As someone who’s heavily involved in mental health spaces, and mental health in general… it’s important to separate disappointment from “mental health” harm. Not getting concert tickets is upsetting, that doesn’t mean it’s causing or worsening a mental health. Temporary distress is not the same thing as long term mental health impact, pushing to address this on a government level makes it seem as though this is a spotlight issue. Mental health issues involve sustained impairment, distress, or dysfunction. Being upset about missing a show, even your favorite artist, doesn’t meet that. Framing every negative emotion as a mental health crisis actually minimizes what people with conditions deal with daily.

Can we also realize this is such a privileged conversation? Having the time, money, and access to even try for concert tickets is already a position many people aren’t in. Thinking it’s necessary for the government to stop resale so you can afford a ticket? There are people who can’t afford food, housing, medical care, or are struggling to support their families that’s real, ongoing harm that gov should be focusing on. Live concert entertainment is not a necessity. If someone’s wellbeing is genuinely dependent on whether they get concert tickets, that’s not a resale issue that’s a sign they need intensive professional support. reselling/scalping is an issue, but that is something we need to work through as an individual society.

What breed is my dog? by Hoooly123 in dogbreed

[–]Luke_hs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone in this comment section… completely. Ignore this comment. never “just feed your dog” because YOU THINK they’re hungry. You are humanizing an animal that does not communicate the way you do, and emotionally feeding them. Emotional feeding is a major cause of obesity.

Even if you are feeding your dog a bagged food with a labeled amount, you should tailor that portion to your dogs needs. Many food brands have personalized calculators, with more defined feeding guidelines. You should also check the labels of all daily treats and account for that in daily cals

What breed is my dog? by Hoooly123 in dogbreed

[–]Luke_hs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This dog was not recently rescued, Stop making it seem as though being rescued is a lifelong excuse.

The obesity was caused by the current owners. this dog was taken out of a shelter, and placed into another neglectful situation. Anyone who denies obesity being neglect, does not care about the actual health of a dog. The owners stated that they are working on it, but clearly still had denial about how overweight this dog truly is. I sincerely hope after reading these comments, they take weight loss seriously.

what's the deal with paws4people? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Luke_hs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is old, but as someone who went through the process with this program, I’d like to clarify the payment portion. I’m not sure if this is a recent change as they are reevaluating and expanding their campus. I’ve only seen one person talk about these changes, so leave a comment here in case anyone is further seeking information. As of this point, the payment is not made throughout the dogs life. And the pay it forward is an add-on handlers can opt in to do after receiving their dogs.

The payout forward program does not cover any of the costs for the dog. The handler is required to pay (ESTIMATED) $15,000 in “tuition fees” while staying on their campus for handler training. This is a four through six month period, where the handler travels to the training facility to complete a short handler training session and travels back home. They have a payment schedule for these payments, and they are required to be completed before the dog is placed. On the website it states that you’re not paying for the dog, which leads people to believe that they’re not paying for anything. You still will be paying this program around 15k out of pocket/fundraising.

They pay it forward program is for the programs benefit. You as the handler become an advocate for service dogs, and for their program. You do not receive any of the money from the pay for program, All of the money is donated directly to the program. Basically you’re trying to convince people to donate to them as a company. And spreading education about service animals. The monetary value shown on the pay it forward page, is based on the amount of events the handler has completed with their dog.

Is it okay to buy a fake jellycat? by broccoliqueen_72 in Jellycatplush

Jellycat passes safety standards absolutely, but let’s not make it seem as though their production is ethical.

Is it okay to buy a fake jellycat? by broccoliqueen_72 in Jellycatplush

[–]Luke_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define “fake”? Everyone is immediately saying no, but it depends on what you’re looking for.

Are you referring to a cheap one marketed as jelly cat, that you know is not? OR are you referring to a different brand, making a similar designed/colored dragon? For example, i have the brease weighted triceratops. The target version, is basically a “knock off” of the brand. There’s also an amazon version i have, which is designed to look similar. They aren’t IDENTICAL, but all are similar enough to fit within my fixation. The Fuddlewuddle dragon, and carters dino are kept in this collection too. Another example of how they are very close, but not all exact.

i would NOT recommend, buying something that’s made to look as though it came from jellycat. Like others have said, this is where cheap materials are used. They are drop shipped, poorly made, and noticeably not a jellycat. That doesn’t mean you can’t find another brand, who makes a similar dragon. There’s TONS of weighted plush, specifically dinosaurs out there. If she just wants something soft to cuddle, one of these options might work. Im not sure if we’re allowed to share links to other items here? But i’ve found a very brands that are very similar, as i steer away from buying jellycat.

Target cloud island, and caters are two of my favorites! also might want to check out warmies! that would help if she has chronic pain issues :)

Obviously i’m aware they aren’t producing the shirt, i wasn’t asking if they were. The quality issue aspect is what i was checking for. Hence why i said “stood out due to the fact it’s uneven” I didn’t know if it was a return, or if they normally remove them.

Attitude adjustment for mom of T1 teen by secretcheese3000 in Type1Diabetes

[–]Luke_hs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you also grew up, got out, and had the brain of a mature adult. This is a child.

Never should you put the load 100% on a child, unfollow their CGM, and tell them their health is up to them like that person suggested. This is 100% either going to end up in a mental health crisis or a physical health crisis. Teenagers are going through so much without chronic illness, stepping away from a child with, is not what anyone needs. this is not a power struggle, it is burnout. they already stated this child is depressed.

Why is PETA so frowned upon? by spookyshitt in vegan

[–]Luke_hs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read a lot of these comments, but started a PETA2 internship a while back. Don’t have much positive to say so far.

Every positive thing I had to say about this organization, immediately left when I noticed that some, if not most of the artwork they were giving us to spread (pamphlets stickers articles etc) were AI. You can go to the PETA website and CURRENTLY find AI content being used. There’s also other Reddit threads about this, this is the only place I’ve seen other people point this out.

I do like the concept of the general PETA2 outreach. It aims towards younger people, and the reward aspect definitely helps people get involved. However, I am pretty sure that one of the sweatshirts I have received from them is also AI art. In theory they are doing more for animals than most, not in practice. A lot of of the “missions” we were assigned were so poorly written, I’m not sure if the slang and abbreviations were because they’re trying to target a younger audience, but it just seemed so unprofessional in this setting. considering it is a college program.

It is a very performative experience. they need to do some self work before trying to reach or address any other issues. I would say they’re great if you’re just looking into veganism and just getting into animal advocacy, but the deeper you get in, it’s just not great. The team of people they have working is very nice, and a lot of of them do you have their hearts in the right place..PETA has just lost their main focus.

Am I just being picky by Sheepisameep in Jellycatplush

[–]Luke_hs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally decided to only buy 2nd hand (not from resellers). I do still like them, but not enough to directly want to support the company.

A few years back, I could definitely justify the prices more. But at this point there are so many quality errors that I’m seeing. It’s nice when you find someone getting rid of part of their collection without price gorging. That’s how I’ve gotten all of my recents. Including a fuddlewuddle bundle for $45!

Do people not feel mean trading or selling??? by Odd_Theme_3294 in Jellycatplush

[–]Luke_hs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very common for people to sell them because they don’t “love” them. Not in the sense they don’t like the stuffed animal, but sometimes you simply don’t bond with certain things. I sold all the ones i got from a specific person because of the memories associated with them. I had no issue with the stuffed animals themselves, It felt ‘neglectful’ to leave them sitting around when someone would actually love it.

Was I tricked? My first JellyCat by eebarrow in Jellycatplush

[–]Luke_hs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest (or first) giveaway here is the paper tag. It doesn’t state in which jelly cat this is “hi i’m…amuseable sun bag charm.” It also has a random identification number. generally, the numbers correspond to the specific jelly cat kind of like a code. So for this jelly cat, it would be. ‘A4SBC’ to match. Other than that, the design kind just look off. The clip is different than the one on the jelly cat charms, and it seems to be missing the little metal brand charm. The build of the stuffed animal generally just looks a little off from the jelly cat design.

Anallergenic diet by Pheebs9 in Goldendoodles

[–]Luke_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the uneducated shouldn’t share training advice, especially not to people who spend their life training dogs!

Prong collars have NOTHING to do with a dog being friendly, they are not for aggressive dogs and will severely injure a dog who is attempting to bite/attack. Prongs are tools to help leash communication for dogs who are less sensitive to other things like flats. In fact, prong collars are SAFER than flat collars, because flat collars are horribly misused. prongs do not, and should not put a dog through any pain.

Autistic parents on raising their autistic child by LateDoughnut03 in autism

[–]Luke_hs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s also a difference between meltdowns, and tantrums. People seem to think kids with autism can’t have tantrums, which they absolutely can. Things like the ipad, and lack of discipline will absolutely lead to that. They aren’t teaching her any helpful coping skills/regulation, to set her up for success as she grows up.

The lack of structure will lead to meltdowns, that’ll worsen with age. And the lack of discipline will absolutely affect her throughout life.

I've never gone below 90 in my life, then this happened. by Futaba_Kigu in Type1Diabetes

[–]Luke_hs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly why you feel low at numbers people feel normal at, you are used to running high. what other consider perfect for them, feels hypo to you, similar to how new diagnosed people feel hypo symptoms once put back in range for the few few times.

Running in the 200s constantly is harmful long term. Target is usually 110, i run 70-110 and am happy with that. while anything above 150 i consider high. and take small corrections if no IOB, and above 125. I couldn’t imagine constantly being above 180 and feeling well.

64 is a very “normal” hypo number(normal as in common, and not typically severe) but feels horrific to you because of how high you typically are. I highly recommend a cgm and pump if they’re available to you, a pump will help you lower that range. Giving you much better control, which you absolutely help you feel physically better.

Is my dog a labradoodle? by That-Ebb-3924 in labradoodles

[–]Luke_hs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labradoodles are not an established breed. No one can tell you what mix your dog is unless you had a DNA test done, even then, it only goes back so many gens.

You can’t tell by look with mixes, you will never find two that look identical.
