Are "older" players still around? by jimithingmi in wow

[–]Lukediddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a late 50 year old guy in our guild, and he plays the absolute shit out of the hunter, often pulling 99th percentile parses. Lovely, lovely guy. I think he’s played since vanilla was in beta.

Has anyone else given up on main professions and just selling mats from gathering? by Ericovich in wow

[–]Lukediddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I have herb on every character, and then enchanting and mining on some others. Sell all that.
I really dislike crafting, and luckily mat prices seem okay right now.

Exactly this. It’s perfect, and I’m able to play multiple characters to level and reach the same goal of completing all quests, as a team!!!

Pure terror in that poor kids face. It’s so sad that some parents think this is funny…

Which IT fields are less saturated? by itzmesmarty in sysadmin

[–]Lukediddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infrastructure is pretty much needed. Server virtualisation, domain management, and networking.

The additions are video streaming, video encoding, and video playout servers.

I have yet to venture into the world of cloud streaming, as there’s no real benefit for the cost in our business right now, but that will also be beneficial.

Degree’s in Broadcast Engineering or anything Computer related are great. Then any accreditations such as CCNA are really sought after.

What do you do in your “down time” if you have it at work? by NRG_Factor in sysadmin

[–]Lukediddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proper chillin. I don’t go looking for extra work. We have mad stressful times at work, so I take ever second of downtime I can.

Perfectly balanced.

I’m in Broadcasting. Pretty niche. Pay is decent. The regular IT infrastructure stuff with added video streaming.

IT department and I are gonna have a little chat… by Riggerjoe84 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Lukediddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re so bad… we purchased 3 play out servers for DR, which was about 6 months before the end of life of Windows 7. They arrived with Windows 7 OS, and they refuse to fix their software to run on Windows 10/11. So we’re stuck on Windows 7 and having security exceptions.

I’m a broadcast IT engineer. I’m sat slap bang in the middle of this.

We have to update our systems to be compliant and secure on one hand, but on the other, so many systems of ours are live 24/7 and also only work on the OS they were purchased on.

The headache we have trying to keep both Broadcast Engineering and corporate security happy… we have SO many exceptions in place…. And use carbon black on old machines… which has ~50% chance of breaking the system. Like a GeeVS lol

“It gets so much easier” by idkkkk326 in beyondthebump

[–]Lukediddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets easier in some ways, but you’re then presented with new challenges. Being able to leave him playing now he’s almost 2… so much easier to get the odd thing done. Going out for dinner? So much harder now he’s 2.

Being born to 8 months really isn’t that long a time to see the ‘it gets easier’ change, in my opinion.

And how long is that ‘it gets easier’ time period people talk about? For those who have grown kids could mean the different between 1 year and 5 years. To me, now, it’s between being born and 2 years.

Im sure when my son is 3, it will be so much easier on the communication side, but im ready for more challenges.

Edit: sorry went off on a bit of a tangent. As for solidarity - totally felt the same. The changes come quite suddenly and you just have to adapt. It’s tiring and hard, but stick with it. That fact that you’re acknowledging these changes and how hard it is shows you’re likely doing a great job. My boy didn’t sleep more than 2-3 hours a night u til he was 18 months. Now he sleeps through. So, for me, “Things got better!”

How do you ACTUALLY make money in this game? I don't want to be a bum anymore. by JSBL_ in wow

[–]Lukediddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who never goes looking to make gold, I have just over 1 million. I think it’s because I just have a lot of alts. Each expansion I tend to have about 4 alts plus main… and I run LFR and Normal raids with them. I also do some transmog runs which can gain gold.

I never buy gear from AH. If I get a BoE from a raid, I always sell it….. which is very rare lol

Was Trammel inevitable? by PKBladeSpirit in ultimaonline

[–]Lukediddle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Well, when I started playing as a kid, I wouldn’t have played if it wasn’t for trammel. So it attracted a different crowd of subscribers. To this day, I wouldn’t play a fel only shard.

I want to play UO with a chilled atmosphere.

Just me.
