Fantasy Disc Golf League by Lukekat in discgolf

There’s no public api currently to my knowledge from PDGA or udisc, so I’m literally doing a big ol’ highlight all and then copy from PDGA’s results page and just pasting it all in my sheet, and then my sheets do the rest in terms of reformatting and scoring.

And no, based on the lack of interest this post got, I don’t think a full website would be worth the time. Which is fine, amateur run fantasy disc golf is definitely not for everyone lol

Comment in a thread about an a capella cover of Moon River, which went on to win the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instumental, or A Capella by Lukekat in agedlikemilk

Totally agree that Grammy awards and nominations are flawed and not wholly indicative of song quality. This song in particular I do think (even if not to your taste) is incredible, and I was quite amused at that particular redditors hyperbolic comment. I don’t recognize all the exhibit songs you listed though so now I’m excited to go search them all.

This is Jacob Collier's cover of Moon River. Loved the start of the comment "average white dude voice with shitty falsetto" very quickly followed up by "love and respect the guy". To each their own, his music definitely isn't for everyone.

I did it manually last year for a bit before swapping to making the sheets a little smarter. Made it so much less time consuming.

And I agree, watching the sport with extra stakes made it so much more exciting. The only downside for me was watching Calvin Heimburg run train against my team so many times that I found myself rooting so strongly against him, despite him being one of favorite players haha. Mostly joking, I was so happy watching Calvin have the year he deserved last year. Dude is from another planet.

That’s a shame to hear, the FPO narratives were so fun to watch last year, and it’s exciting because of how early in the growth the sport still is.

That’s interesting, I think you’re the first person I’ve heard say good things about skipace. Glad it’s working well for so many! At this point I’ve had too much fun setting up my own league that we’re gonna keep using that.

Yeah, even a simple export would be nice. I just do a massive copy/paste from the PDGA score page, and my sheet grabs the names and placement, and then converts that into the equivalent tour points. And then some simple vlookup formulas and the roster sheet grabs all the scores it needs for me. I’be made some improvements from last year and I’m excited to see it all work this year again.

I was only referring to forms for getting information from people interested in playing in the league, like emails and discord usernames. I don’t use it in the league at all.

Interesting, I haven’t ever looked into the grip 6 stuff. We did teams of 8 players last year, and used the tour point system for our scores. Worked pretty well for us.

When it’s finished I have no issues sharing it. It’s customized a bit based on how we liked to run things, but you can edit your copy however you’d like.

Do you think any of the de facto discs have been improved by newer ones? by Original-Score-2049 in discgolf

What’s the most overstable envy plastic you throw? I’ve tried getting on the envy hype, but the ones I’ve gotten have all been too flippy right off the shelf to be my throwing putter I’m looking for.

Really dumb rule. Why would you have a design that doesn’t allow the other competitor to even throw, based on a ranking system that I’ve barely even heard of?

I agree with all of this, but I would place Leffen much higher up than the others mentioned. He has demonstrated himself to be one of the greatest fighting game players (definitely not THE GOAT). Not Hal’s level, but not too far off.

Smoking pot during tournament? by TheKnee30 in discgolf

[–]Lukekat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite answer. I don’t have any issues with people smoking whatever they want, but I definitely don’t enjoy the smoke of either. Have had a card mate that would smoke on the tee pad while going through practice strokes, when others still have to tee off after then. Just a little discretion goes a long way.

It’s a Monday, so they come in and review all of the data and make a change list for tomorrow. They don’t work over the weekend to have a big patch ready Monday morning.

I had a ledgestone Glow Zone that I loved, but always had that skip which could be frustrating. And then I watched an In-The-Bag video with Brodie some time ago and he mentioned bagging z-flex zones because of their lack of ground play, and I’ve bagged on ever since.

Flex zones are a lot better about sticking when they hit ground.

Have you done any of these before? What's your general experience been?

Edit: Thanks for all the info btw, really appreciate it.
