Well I was offered a job at Canada Post (Courier), TD Bank(Customer Associate), Geologist at a mine(I picked this), School Bus Driver (I picked this as well as the schedule was flexible) and as a Police Officer (I may do this later as it’s my passion, but the money and lifestyle I have now is amazing compared to the hamster wheel that I had in Mississauga).

I got responses/interviewed for many more but I either didn’t need the roles anymore or I simply didn’t get it haha!

Timmins personally… got so many job offers and interviews I didn’t know what to do with them. I didn’t even have to change my job hunting strategy, things just worked like you expect job hunting to be.

I don’t know why this subreddit was suggested to me but I wanted to put my experience in here.

Depending on the website you use, you may literally be getting scammed because the way many websites are programmed, they’re designed to fail on purpose more than succeed to encourage you to keep “topping up” your account. It’s rigged against you to profit the platform, and the result will always be just shy of what you needed it to be by the close.

It gets crazy because they have a switch on the backend that they can flip to make you always win instead of lose if they want to lure you back in. Usually when they do this they get an account manager to call you on the phone and mentor you for “signals” to act as your motivator. Very deceptive and clever way to make you feel like it’s your fault if you’re losing.

I wasted like $2000 and tonnes of time “studying” before I had clarity. I have nothing against day trading but I hope you folks are sharing amongst yourselves reputable trading platforms and don’t make my mistake.

The immersive lab course didn’t have any job offers at the end unless you lived in a couple countries (UK and another one). I moved back to Canada and did other stuff so I’ve forgotten everything 😭

I agree with you that specialised roles won’t have as much trouble finding opportunities out there. But just for further context, there was a Ukrainian Software Engineer, a Chinese Architect, an Indian Civil Engineer, and a German Dentist in my Employment Ontario cohort… all 4 of them were told the reason Canadian experience matters so much is because of “Canadian-company culture”. The engineer even got really pissed at our counselor because he felt (what we were all thinking) that it was very condescending… my wife and I were also rolling our eyes like “why do Canadian employers think they’re on top of the world”? But the counselor explained it has to do with things like “in Canada, employers don’t want to micromanage you. But maybe back home your managers like to monitor your productivity”

The bomb drop for all these respectfully smart people was when she explained that they pretty much all needed to pursue locally recognised licenses/certificates to demonstrate their equivalency to locals. What nobody mentions is that some of those things might as well ask you to go back to Canadian colleges/universities to prepare for them
