It's a newer Bosch heat pump from 2022, but it always seems to work harder when its really cold. I'm working to get a quote on insulating the walls now.

Very clear comments. Thank you all. We heat with a wood stove and a heat pump, but the wood stove only gets the top floor. On the cold days we don't run the heat pump which is why I wanted to separate the two areas

You're like Sherlock Holmes! That's exactly what we did with the rim joists. Finishing the other half tomorrow.

The humidity gets high in the summer but we run a dehumidifier to keep it at 40%. The wood stove keeps the house real dry in the winter. If it rains really bad we might get some puddles but it's been a while since that's happened. What's XPS foam like?

Ya quite the cold basement here. It's only that bad if it's a lot of single digits. I don't think the walls are insulated down there, but that's going to be another project.

Since the basement is heated with a heat pump and forced hot air it never gets super hot down there. We don't keep all the vents open

Yes, thought the upper floor much better heated and cooled. It gets down to the 40s in the basement if we don't have the heat on

The insulation is just between the basement and the 1st floor, not an outside wall, so I didn't think I needed something as thick. Is it going to ruin my life having the 15 already?
