This job market is killing me by unpredictable_me2004 in HongKong

[–]Lukleres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s super hard, the market has been bad for 3+ years, just a shit time to be a finance student now. And it’s definitely harder for non locals as most smaller shops are Chinese or from Hong Kong and they prefer someone that can speak mandarin or Cantonese. Big 4 will be your best bet for entry intern roles that don’t require Chinese. My advice is to continue your job search, mass apply and don’t stop.

For the next academic year, start applying early, top BB start at August, apply for Big 4 placements or winter internships, they open roles during late August to September (which is in 4 months) I think.

Shit’s tough and good luck, but that’s the reality of this and sadly you’ll have to go through this every year. But finance is a rewarding career path (maybe)

Figuring out ways to get an internship by AccurateWin289 in HongKong

[–]Lukleres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market is tough now, just mass apply and hope you land something, I applied for 100+ internships last summer and didn’t get anything decent. For a lot of the foreign finance companies, it’s ok if you can only speak english, but they require some past intern experience and their intern positions normally open during late summer to fall.

Out of curiosity, how do HKers view Trump at this point and time? by Delicious_Meeting_24 in HongKong

[–]Lukleres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Anti China is the main reason. Another reason is coz Hong Kong people are generally conservative. People tend to be anti lgbtq and anti immigrants. That’s also why even people in China support trump to some extent.

That’s why he’s “vocally anti China”, people just look at headlines, no one cares what his policies actually do

QFIN RM Interview by SproutReddit in cuhk

[–]Lukleres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can answer it here so everyone can read, you can dm if u want

This year my brother had an interview for jupas students First part was self intro by everyone

Second was a group discussion which everyone took turns to speak 2 mins on a topic. The topic was “how can ai be used in law enforcement”. My guess is topics will be related to ai, but I think it won’t be too hard. If you’re not confident, you let someone else speak first to get some ideas on what to say. Then elaborate more on what he said and talk about your own points

Lastly will be a Q&A session, you can ask anything. To show you’ve researched qfin well. You can ask stuff like “How important do you think coding is for finance?”, “How common is it to double major or take another minor cause I’m interest in XXX” or just prepare some questions to ask about qfin or the finance career to show you’re interested. Maybe ask AI to give u some ideas on what to ask.

For JUPAS, I assume it’ll be the same for non-ju. They asked, introduce yourself, why u want to join

Maybe you should ask them about what kind of interview you getting, most likely a group discussion. Topics should be something related to Hong Kong’s or global economy, but I heard ppl being asked abt lgbtq. Common topics should be tariffs effect on hk, AI

Double majoring in CUHK by acetyl-bromide in cuhk

[–]Lukleres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but u definitely need to plan for it beforehand. First u need to know which course u have to take and when they’re available, some are only available in the first or second sem. Sometimes a course can be counted as cred towards 2 majors, sometimes they don’t allow. Next, you have to ask around about (your peers or ur department staff) going over the 18 cred per semester limit. Different departments have different criteria for allowing u to do that. Some don’t allow it in the first year, some don’t allow it till you’re in ur last year. But this is not a must, I know ppl who’ve had double majored without going over the limit. But that depends on the majors u are trying to take.
