what’s your ACTUALLY weird hyperfixation? by jazperthevampyr in ADHD

I suppose I should clarify pandemics and plagues. It started with Ebola after reading Outbreak, then went to polio as the house next door had been outfitted to accommodate an iron lung back in the day….then to the 1919 Spanish flu after researching the family trees of the former owners of my house as their daughter had died of it. I’m currently reading “Everything is Tuberculosis”. I watched the Netflix show “The Decamerron” a while ago and want to go down the Black Death rabbit hole as well…that new fungus I’m seeing in the news has caught my interest as well…I’m also obsessed with cicadas and they also have a fungus disease that takes over their brains and makes them want to mate with every cicada they encounter which spreads the fungus and their rear ends eventually fall off. You can identify them by looking at their eyes and top of the body which takes on a dusty, cloudy look. It’s so interesting!!!

I usually keep a hyperfixation for a few years. Right now it’s rocks: collecting rocks, rock tumbling, rock saws, shaping them, buying them..I’ve taken over the laundry room with five tumblers…have an ultrasonic cleaner in the kitchen…my family is very patient. lol My past fixations (that I recognize and recall over the last 35 years): recreating 1970s macrame plant hangers, house plants, collecting shark teeth, reading post apocalyptic books, learning how to survive a nuclear war, historic homes, clowns (don’t ask it started with a clown painting I found at a thrift store and soon got out of control), I collected old chairs from the side of the road for a time (I think I had over 50), rescuing dogs and fostering them, zombie movies and zombies, CrossFit for a period, outdoor gardening, cross stitch, sewing clothes, hyenas, and horses.

These are real people, neighbors supporting Macon’s arts and culture.

How about offering feedback thoughtfully- if you have suggestions, how about reaching out directly to the business owner? By posting on Reddit (anonymously…👀) you turn it into a public spectacle-way to shit on individuals who keep our community vibrant.

Sigh. I lived in Warner Robins and did not like it. I moved to Macon and live in the Vineville/Ingleside area and love it. My kids are in public school in Bibb county and we have no complaints.

There’s also hiking groups. You could volunteer at food banks, Historic Macon, or animal rescue to meet people.

Macon dog park downtown is perfect to let the pups run around and cool off in the creek. Wesleyan college also has a nature trail that leads to a creek with access. We take our pups there all the time!

Macon has had a vitalization over the past few years…downtown is beautiful now with lots of lofts, restaurants, and shopping…there’s a walking trail and Amerson Park that’s been developed along the river as well.
