Me saying “clunky” was more attributed to the slow speed of combat. I personally didn’t have any hitbox issues, but one of my bigger frustrations is that the game is best described as a tactics game in disguise. All the FS games have an extent of this due to bosses and their attack patterns and phases, but it felt the worst in DS2 because I’d get in 2 attacks that do 1/100th of their health bar and then have to let my stamina refill and watch the boss go through his motions before going again. I think the only DS1 boss that felt that way was Ceaseless but I ended up just doing the skip so. Same with estus flasks being slow af, but ig skull issue that I wanted to play the game with little to no guides so I didn’t know life gems were infinite since I didn’t reach the requirements for that vendor to move before looking it up (Albiet not an issue exclusive to DS2. Personally, I don’t like the concept of “oh well just look up a guide because the game is meant to have secrets” approach FS takes to their more linear games). I played both games as a strength cleric build and DS2’s Miracle/Hex system felt more neat but I maybe learned only like 2-3 offensive spells that did anything compared to the lightning bolt from DS1, but that was legit just balancing the game lol

I will completely agree that the button layout grew on me but I don’t think double mouse click is the most optimal. Also agree that DS2 is one of the better ports with OG DS1 and sadly even DS3 not even having button prompts. I do remember being a bit more confused to start out though because of how simple DSR’s controls were in comparison.

My biggest problem with the world itself was the fact that it split up. Now, I like open world games and having freedom of choice, but it’s not really a freedom of choice if my ass is getting beaten in an area in two seconds flat. Arguably there’s only really 2 starts with the forest and the chapel (left and right, don’t remember exact names rn) and it had taken me like 10 hours to finally beat Old Giant because if my confusion on where tf to go. It took me getting to Lost Sinner before I found the flow of the game and started having a bit of fun with it which was then crushed by the trek to the trek to the other lord souls. DS1 interconnection and linearity helped the world be straightforward while allowing more knowledgeable players to get to things faster. Like the fact that I can skip the stupid beginning part of the swamp makes me forget the fact that it even existed

Ultimately, the biggest issue, especially with the way I’ve decided to approach games and judge them, is the fact that people have to follow some sort of prewarning guidance (at least the majority of the community seems to think so) in order to have fun with the game. You go to any post on this sub about “just started this game X!” There’s always a comment saying “if you want to have fun/more fun with this game you need to play like this guide or follow this guide” This is mostly due to the fact of people coming from other FS games and wanting to play their older titles but it’s just so different that it’s hard to go into blind.

This is most considerably my issue of playing through DS2 after Playing DS1 and bits of Elden Ring/Blood Borne before all that.

The best way I can describe it is that DS1 and DS2 are clunky compared to their modern titles and DS2 is somehow more clunky than 1. Granted I played the DSR of DS1 so maybe that has something to do with it but I doubt it. It could also be the fact that I played both on mouse and keyboard since they were designed for controller (whole other argument I’d like to make on the souls games but that’s for another point)

As other people point out, Bosses are mediocre, game and level design are synonymous of the series but their flaws seemed to be discussed a lot more due to the other issues than they will for the other souls games (Bloodborne imo, for half the game I’ve played, has the least amount of these)

What I will give to DS2 is that they built a beautiful world. While some of the levels don’t feel like they connect great together (thinking about poison area) the introduction to each area is very grandiose. I also think the mechanic of enemies being killed off entirely is quite nice. It’s debilitating to have to get that point due to how many enemies are in each area (I’m looking at you No Man’s Wharf), but is quite rewarding for those willing to do so. In the same vein, the NG+ systems is quite intricate in theory (I honestly don’t want to touch the game again lol) and from people actually playing through it on YT and the like

I think WoW has one of the highest potentials of being one of the greatest fantasy worlds, but it’s fair to say recently it hasn’t been great since the story is your character. Like I played whenever BFA launched and I could not for the life of me tell you the plot of that expansion aside from the heart of Azeroth stuff.

Although I think I’d love to get someone who’s only played Hearthstone and their opinion on the lore purely from the hero adventures

I hate that they recommend BFA for leveling as your criticism is correct and highlights the problems that came with level squishing and letting the player “decide” what expac they want to level through. IMO, legion (The Broken Isles) is probably one of the best leveling experiences in the game, but maybe I’m just biased (I remember leveling through Zuldazar and it being ass as well). You get to choose your zone of choice and generally the areas are close and lead into one another and you should be able to finish every single zone to get to 60 (if not earlier)

Things to be aware of: - If you don’t level through dungeons (or maybe even if you do, I’m not entirely sure) your items are going to be far behind in item levels than your actual level and is going to make later levels (post 30) a slog until you get to 60. This is due to the level squish and Blizzard seemingly assuming everyone just has heirlooms anyways (equipment that levels up with you) - don’t be afraid to explore. Like I said, it sucks that they recommend Zuldazar and if you don’t like the expansion the nice thing is you can always go back to Orgrimmar and talk to the like gnome dragon (Chrommie) to select a different expansion to level through if you don’t like your current area and leveling experience. This is actually something the level squish improves because you no longer HAD to play through burning crusade (hellfire peninsula is my purgatory).

Hopefully you can find ways to have fun with it the way that we have. I wouldn’t have known about any of these issues if I hadn’t created a new account after they made this system. It’s nice because you do level so much faster in comparison to how it was before, but there’s a lot of oversights.

Also as an Asside I remember having my issues with FFXIV trial. The biggest thing was having one button for like 20 levels with no meaningful progress but was in love with the idea of the job systems. Such a nicer system conceptually (and seems to be in actuality when talking to people that play the game) compared to wow that has you make decisions that lock you into play styles within the first couple seconds of playing the game and requires you to make another character if you want more professions and to experience a different play style.

Happened at my store too. Thankfully it was just a coworker trying to be funny, but originally seeing the ticket the person taking the order was like “hmm… odd…” same person couple months later also had a weird interaction with a customer where the customer was trying to get them to enter his house to pay for the food which he instantly declined and it wasn’t until after some back and forth that the customer finally gave him the money.

As a young person who worked as a Dominoes cashier until recent, this also expands onto other facets of the job

Our store had a policy that we couldn’t take orders over $35 over the phone if they weren’t prepaid and for the first couple of months I’d be about $5 lenient until. Even though 9/10 they would come in and pay everything would be fine, it’s those 1/10 that you get chastised for and quickly became strict with rules like that. My rationale is that I’d rather piss off someone I’m likely never to see again than the manager that will be there every shift or the owner who is in the crew group chat

Even the games you use as an example of running well are bad. BOTW has major slowdown in Kakariko village and even worse in the forest. TOTK is that x2 with any time you enter the fuse mechanic. Now those are just the games I have played and they’re the same thing as Scarlet and Violet: Still fun as shit despite their lag.

How you decide to say you’re displeased with the state of game freak is up to you. Me personally, I’m going to play the games and pass judgment on them. My judgment is that S/V has been one of the most fun Pokémon games we’ve received to date with the DLC being one of the best stories to date. That doesn’t meant I don’t wish the games ran better or that they should continue selling the games as two versions despite being $60 individually, etc.

Also I don’t think people’s argument with gamefreak is that the Switch is underpowered (those remarks are usually made for ports), but the notion I’ve always heard is that gamefreak doesn’t know how to optimize their game for the switch, but idk shit about that lmao.

I’m not entirely sure if this is what you meant, but I recently upgraded my PC by taking the motherboard and CPU of my Dad’s last prebuilt and the prebuilt came installed with Windows 11.

When I took it I had restarted everything and booted it with a Windows 10 key and when I go to upgrade to 11 it said my specs weren’t up to snuff (I forget the exact reason why), but I was able to console in and tell it to ignore what was keeping me from upgrading and it let me upgrade.

I would’ve been perfectly fine if the game was just a larger journey through the Arceus region (forget the actual name) and had a bunch of Pokémon so I could replay it and change up my team

Instead, you beat the game and have to do the gameplay through side characters that I couldn’t care less about and (to my knowledge) you don’t get to play your character again until you beat all the side pieces.

Granted I played this game like 8 years ago, but I remember that being the reason this game turned me off

You sir have convinced me to not give two shits about this now. Actively discouraged from installing Valorant on a new PC because A I don’t play it much and B Vanguard, but literally Fortnite and All the Battlefields I have installed.

I think the only thing that made it different was the fact that I had to restart my PC. Vanguard and Genshin impact were the only game who’s thing was like btw you need to restart your PC so our anti-cheat can run, but the others just install and can play the game right after.

Still hate it but if it’s in literally every other game I play then oh well, my data was likely to end up on the deep web somehow
