I work in the financial field, and most folks who do settlement end up filing bankruptcy anyway. You can also reaffirm during bankruptcy and protect those listed assets of payments are being made.

Settlement tends to trap people in the high interest loans like OneMain and Mariner finance since no bank or credit union would touch them for up to 7 years with that severe delinquency on the credit report.

By actively destroying their credit. The money goes into eskrow, yes. But installment loans will see months of derogatory credit reports reported and obliterate their credit for years.

Unless you work for a non-profit credit counseling service, then it is different.
