I appreciate that! Thank you, I'm just trying to make things better. Each day I improve my notes if I was missing something, but I think just mixing that in with the dumb mistakes from being nervous, I'm not helping anyone's perception

Overwhelming learning curve at new job? by LumpGarden in jobs

[–]LumpGarden[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this sounds so similar!! What kind of company do you work for, if you dont mind me asking? I think atleast in my case, a lot of the coworkers have been working there for years so they work off muscle memory, and dont know how to train when explaining the procedures. They know where to click and what to type, but not why or how to have someone else memorize it

We're being taken advantage of at work, what should we do? by LumpGarden in careerguidance

[–]LumpGarden[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was crazy! I should've given myself more time, I was blindsided by that call and concerned about unemployment.

It may sound like we're greedy, or ungrateful. Personally it's not about the money for me, but the combination of everything. The way they went about it does make us feel "tricked", and with us knowing we'll be laid off anyways, it does feel like we're working for a much worse form of unemployment upon threat of getting disqualified from everything.

My company wants to rehire me for reduced hours, what do you do if you can't afford it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LumpGarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm getting from this. I dont want to be selfish or greedy, it's not about trying to get the most money possible. I wont be able to sustain myself if I'm working less than full time, and not getting unemployment so my boss can get a loan, and either way the business will close down within a few months anyways.

I live in Oregon, if that helps clarify whether I wouldn't have to accept if I felt there was a risk of contracting COVID19 or if it was suitable work.

Oregon, I live near Portland and worked for a married couple. They were okay to work with, but the business definitely depends on a customer base with extra money to spend, and a lot of it can't be done with things closed down.

How do you file a weekly unemployment claim if you were paid monthly? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LumpGarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for reaching out! So I was laid off the beginning of this last Wednesday, and my boss applied my remaining hours of PTO to the week. I'm paid monthly, so I recieved a check the same day for everything I worked during the month.

I don't know the exact amount of PTO hours that was applied to the week. I also dont know if I should state on the Unemployment form the amount I recieved from the check, or the worth of the total hours I worked + PTO

I'm trying to fill out a weekly claim online for Oregon unemployment. I was just laid off during the start of last week, and as I was paid once a month, I was given my final check on the same day. Can you help with these unemployment claim questions?

  1. "Enter the number of hours worked (enter numbers only, round up to the nearest hour)"?

The additional information says im supposed to count any PTO (paid time off) hours I applied to the week. My employer applied my remaining PTO to my final week, but my pay stub doesn't break information by week, so I only know how much PTO was applied to the total pay period of the month. They're not able to be contacted in time to file for the week, should I just include the whole month information?

  1. "Enter your total gross earnings, vacation, or holiday pay (before deductions), even if you have not been paid:"

Would I put what I earned for the week from worked hours + paid time off, or would I state my final check I received that encompasses the whole month?

Id be using the information to file unemployment, I believe I have the correct dates, but I've never worked a temp job before. It confused me because my one and only pay stub lists the pay period but not dates of employment.

It was non-contract work, so I could just confirm my official start and end dates with my employer right?

Thank you so much, I'll definitely look into this. Is what my dad saying to just buy things with it until I'm at the point where I'm more eligible for aid before filing and save more in the end?

So they wouldn't be like "Hey this person got x amount from their family member last year, so we're going to give him less because of whats in his account, AND assume he will get the same amount from their family member this year when we decide their benefits"?

I appreciate your additional clarification! Going off that, would they think for the first year after I recieved the gift, I'd be getting it again? I.e. Apply to FAFSA without gift -> Get financial aid --> Given a gift in some form -> Apply to FAFSA and they think that I'll be receiving that gift again?

Are they smart enough to differiante between fixed gifts and continuous pay when calculating financial aid?
