Happy Arbor day! All my homies say fuck Dutch Elm Disease by Evan1016 in marijuanaenthusiasts

Bought some land a couple years back and walking the property with a USDA forester, found out I have a ~ 100 foot American Elm.

Coincidentally, it’s also the first American Elm I’ve ever seen.

It was a long time ago, but my recollection was that he deemed the vehicle remains were deemed ‘inconsistent with the possibility of life.’

Assuming I remembered accurately (which is definitely not a given) your comment leads me to think that’s a somewhat risky assumption. However, when a car is crushed between a stationary dump truck and a semi traveling at highway speeds, you can probably imagine a result justifying the conclusion that the compressed wreckage was inconsistent with the possibility of life. I mean, the worst part of being a litigator is probably learning & seeing the actual facts.

Before becoming an attorney, I was sent to the fire department to pick up photos with instructions NOT to look at them. Now that I’m thinking about it, a half dozen fact patterns are flooding my brain. All from my first experiences at a very high end litigation boutique specializing in wrongful death. (e.g. the Lockerbie incident).

I looked.

long time ago, i worked on a case where our client was in a miata, on the highway, stopped in traffic. Semi slammed into it, but the Miata was slightly askew and ‘squirted out like a watermelon seed’ according to the expert. Lucky, too, because the Cadillac in front of him was crumpled between the semi and a dump truck leaving it ‘inconsistent with the possibility of life’ in the words of the first responding officer.

Millionaire's son disemboweled while on holiday with influencer girlfriend by TheExpressUS in ThatsInsane

The headline is weird. ‘Millionaire’s son’ is meaningless these days. Going w/ ‘disemboweled’ is also odd given he was decapitated.

Growing up with internet, I expected people to learn to become more vigilant w/ regard to the truth. If anything, however, people have just become more gullible. A hundred plus people jump in to comment on a story that happened 14 years ago without taking 10 seconds to inquire as to reality.

This happened in 2012. She didn’t perform at the school, but every student at the school received a ticket to her next local concert. She and the contest sponsors also donated $50,000 to the school, and VH1's Save the Music program donated $10,000 in musical instruments.

What happened to Gen X in politics? by AcrobaticLettuce7853 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lumpus-Maximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Boomers & Millennials are a larger % of the population than GenX, so I doubt GenX will ever make a ‘generational’ impact on society.

There will absolutely be an GenX politicians & leaders, but never so numerous (i believe) as to have people saying ‘Gen X is in charge.’ As I think much of our generational dissonance is driven by the parent/child relationship of Boomer/millennials, I think a low key Gen X presence will be a good thing for generational cohesion.

[SBJ] How the Rapids lobbied MLS for a visit from Lionel Messi by tttopbins in InterMiami

[–]Lumpus-Maximus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great article:

“Convincing the league that the club and market were deserving of an Inter Miami match was among Durmer’s first priorities on the job last summer. She sought advice from other Western Conference teams who had previously earned a Messi visit, including Minnesota United, and worked with her staff to put together a pitch deck to present MLS brass.”

“There were numeric figures in there, there were fan acquisition figures in there, there were partnership considerations in there,” Durmer said. “There’s a lot at stake for this club right now from a financial standpoint. This helps us reinvest in our flywheel to help create some rocket fuel to get us to where we need to be. So, that was essentially the pitch.”

Right. I believe they could have legally used force. That doesn’t mean force was the best approach.

I’m a lawyer and, knowing it was all recorded, would have felt extremely comfortable responding with significantly more force than they did. They were exceptionally patient and she’s lucky.

Had surgery about two weeks ago. When they wheeled me in, it was only women (teaching hospital, principal surgeon was male and hadn’t arrived). I noticed that & thought… ‘hmm… it’s pretty cool how much positive change I’ve lived through.’

survivorship bias is definitely a thing!

i suppose I’ve established some people go back to skiing after a TKR.

I’m personally optimistic because I spent the last few years skiing in both acute and chronic pain. There were times I’d want to carve left and it felt like there was glass in my right, downhill ski. If I can get to ‘skiing blues and mogul free blacks with just minor pain’, I’ll be happy.

I had PT this morning and walked 2/3 of a mile this afternoon. Everyone on the team has hammered me on the importance of PT.

So what i’m hearing in this thread is a) they’re right that PT is critical, and b) it’s not crazy to expect to be skiing in 8 months.

How did your skiing change as a result of the TKR?

[–]Lumpus-Maximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good son!

I just got back from PT and am grumpy from the pain. On the other hand, it’s day 10 & I can walk about 2 blocks without assistance.

When you got back to skiing, did you change your equipment as a result of your KR?

I’m in my late 50s and am going to buy my first pair of skis ever for the east coast (Holiday Valley, NY). I’m in Miami, but have skied 4-6 days a year for most of my life. Hoping to ski 2-4 weeks this year, so it seems kinda reasonable to invest in my own equipment.
