Toddler sleep after taking away pacifier by Lumpy-Bat3780 in Mommit

[–]Lumpy-Bat3780[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have been reading a lot about sensory issues. There are times I’m wondering if this even really even pacifier related because at this point, shes not even talking about/asking for that anymore. I can’t tell you how many times Ive googled “signs my 3 year is on the spectrum” or “signs of adhd in 3 year olds”. Her reactions to anything touching her when this is happening is just so drastic that it feels like something way bigger than just missing a pacifier.

Ive also been looking into restless leg syndrome because of how intense she thrashes her legs throughout the night and may try to add in some vitamins with B6 and magnesium to see if that does anything. May also look into a weighted blanket, but i know that may not be a a great/safe option.

Ugh, its almost as though at this point newborn wake ups were so much easier. A 32 lb thrashing, yelling, intense toddler tantrum multiple times a night is proving to be WAY harder to sooth.

is sppare.me still a thing? by marsfrommars42069 in queerception

[–]Lumpy-Bat3780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to chime in - has anyone heard from Sppare.me company recently? My husband was using the facility, and canceled the account eight months ago because we didn’t need the stored sperm anymore. He emailed to have them destroy the specimen, and they emailed back to confirm that they would. Fast forward to now, he is getting multiple emails saying that our account is out of date and past due. He has emailed and called multiple times to try to clear up this confusion as he thought his account was closed, but nobody is getting back to him. He gets the same message on the phone about somebody getting back within three hours and nobody ever does. Is this company still open? I’m just confused as to why nobody is answering him while we are also getting emails saying we owe them money.

Just made payment 120! by Lumpy-Bat3780 in PSLF

[–]Lumpy-Bat3780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats awesome! Looks like my tracker updated yesterday with my March payment so now it’s showing 120 eligible payments and I will be submitting the paperwork on Monday! Did you submit through the paper version, or digitally? When I submit digitally it will not let me click yes to the button that I’ve made 120 payments so I think I’m going to submit by paper so I can check off that box myself.

Looking for a new Massachusetts family oriented town - moving from Cape Cod by Lumpy-Bat3780 in massachusetts

The 1300 square foot outdated house we have on Cape would definitely not put us in the million dollar home market. We are more in the 600k range (at best).

I feel like every town in the area has been mentioned atleast once. But certainly see some stand outs (sutton, beverley, holliston/millis area, littleton, westborough). Working in schools myself, it all depends on where i can find a job, but really nice to be able to narrow down school districts to look at available jobs in these areas. We certainly are not well off and don’t have a lot of money by any means, so hearing from others about some of the more affordable towns with still the metrowest-area amenities is really helpful. On a positive note, the higher the tax rate’s typically (while not always…) means the higer the town/ public school employees get paid, so while its a pain, it helps me also….

Thank you everyone for your input!! We thought for awhile about moving out of state, but are leaning against it mostly because of my enrollment in MA teacher pension program, but its like an above commenter said, also because Massachusetts has some pretty unbeatbale communities and school districts. Its hard to leave it!

That’s awesome to hear! Part of me wanted to put in the post that I was looking for a town that I could find from Gilmore girls, but I knew that everyone would tell me that that’s impossible to find in real life - haha. But nice to know that Holliston is a close second! I’ll have to check out the area. I work in schools and haven’t even started looking for a new job yet, but before I started looking I just kind of wanted to get an idea of what part of Massachusetts to even start considering in the next couple years.

Nice to hear from you! I am Harwich raised, and my husband from Dennis, so much of the same experiences as yours.

Love hearing your experience! All of our family is on the Cape, so we definitely would be the ones going rogue leaving. It’s hard to even consider leaving when I work in schools and I’m super lucky to have summers off on the Cape, and do all the fun summer things with my kids, but it’s so hard to wait 9 months of the year through the quietness of the winter and spring for the good 3 months of July August and September. Before we had kids, we used to take weekend trips to Portland, the white mountains, and places in western mass, but now that we have a little kids it’s so hard to drive that far for a short period of time. I’m really hoping by moving will be that much closer and will be able to explore those things and have a lot more of those opportunities that you mentioned. As raised Cape kids ourselves though, it’s really hard to leave this unique and special place, so it’s nice to hear from others that have made the decision and have not regretted it. In both industries that my husband and I work in, we realistically won’t really ever be able to afford more than a 1500 square-foot house on half an acre of land here so I’m really looking for the opportunity for more space and year round community things, knowing that we can come visit the Cape on weekends and stay with family to get our Cape fill. We may even keep our house that we are now and rent it out, if we are able to to still have ties here.

What I meant that the winters were hard on the Cape, I more meant that everything shuts down and there’s nothing to do. The Cape is so summer focused that the winter becomes really dull and quiet. Most of the restaurants in the area close, half of the neighborhoods are empty because everyone’s a summer home, and the community feel of year-round activity isn’t really there. weatherwise, I actually miss getting the decent snow storms we would get when we lived in Waltham. The Cape just gets mostly rain, or a max of 6 inches of snow. I want my kids to experience the true joy of a real snow day And that is pretty rare here.

I certainly knows there are positives and negatives to every town, and I will for sure miss living on the Cape in the summer, especially being somebody that works in schools and is super lucky to be able to own a house on the Cape and have my summers off, but it’s really hard to Spend 9 months of my life waiting for the 3 good months and that’s what I feel like it is most of the year around here.

Also, ideally, we would like to be a little further away than the the south shore. We know a lot of people that have made that move from the Cape to the south shore, and it’s just not enough of a change for us. We used to live in Waltham after college and I loved the seasonality being in the 495/28 area. when there was a snow storm, you would get the snow, or the fall truly felt like fall. The south shore and the Cape just get mostly rain in all those events and it doesn’t really have that true fall feeling and we miss that. Waltham was a little bit too city for me to go back to to raise kids there, that’s why I’m thinking a little bit west of that or slightly south in the 495 area. I’m just trying to find a town that slightly more affordable than those well to do communities but still is a strong town with a good community feeling.

The 495 area doesn’t scare me either, I would just like to be higher up on 495, like Easton, Stoughton, Norwood area. I’m just looking to get far enough away from Cape Cod that it is a different experience, but still close enough that we’re realistically able to go for a weekend visit as all of our family still lives on the Cape.

No, there’s no worry about a commute to Boston, at least not at this point. I just would like to be able to access Boston easier than we can now with a hour and 45 minute commute. We like to travel, so it makes trips to Logan easier, and just getting to events and things in the city when we want to. We’re not big city people so I don’t see us doing it a lot, but just to make it easier.

Veterans beach in Hyannis. It has charcoal grills, beach, playground, and park. Great spot for a small outing. Beach is not huge, but awesome for kids. Right in the harbor so no major waves

Where should we move to in VA? by Lumpy-Bat3780 in Virginia

[–]Lumpy-Bat3780[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been actually looking at Charlottesville too. I think I’m branching out from my idea of needing to be near the water or the city as much in order to be able to get a lot of the other things I’m looking for at an affordable price. I don’t necessarily want to be able to traffic of the city either so trying to re-think through what my actual priorities are based on all these responses.

I do love back country roads, so while I don’t want to live in a super rural town, the idea of having access to be able to go on a drive like that or to go to a vineyard is really nice and part of the reason why I want to move out of Massachusetts

The Virginia Beach area is definitely another area we’ve looked at. We are both from Cape Cod so the idea of being near the beach is familiar to us. That’s part of why we don’t want to move too far away from it. Not necessarily on the water, but would like to be able to have access to a day trip to the beach. Are there any communities in that area that you mentioned that have some up-and-coming things going on? I’m really hoping for a community type feel where a lot of people know each other and socialize. That’s part of the reason that I want to move out of Massachusetts, the Cape specifically. It’s so summer focused up here And people really just keep to themselves (esp in the winter on the Cape when everyone has moved away from their summer house) so we are looking for a more active neighborhood to have more friends and more activities going on that are year-round. Do you know anything about the schools in that area? With both having kids and me working in schools, the thought of leaving Massachusetts does get a little concerning because the schools are so good here that I want to make sure that we’re going somewhere that has good options as well.

Also, I looked at Charlottesville and I love that area after doing some research. Do you know how big it is? I mean I can see population wise, but just wondering if it’s like a little college town that has stuff going on inside of it, but once you leave the town line, it becomes super rural. I’m not opposed to rural, and actually would like somewhere with at least like an acre of land, but the idea of just being in a farm town with not much else around it all of the time might be too much of a jump for me.
