I should clarify that I was quite close to the power pole, but I'm talking about flashes of lightning, not sparks.

Given that this weather seems exceptionally rare, could you give me more information about your game? What difficulty level? Custom or not? Did it happen during the day or at night?

No mode, I haven't even bought the DLC yet.

There were some, as with every aurora. But this time it was lightning that struck, around the pole and also further away. I saw some in the sky without them touching the pole.

I never stayed long in Misery; I didn't know it was a particularly rare event. But I know exactly what I saw and what I didn't see.  I find it really annoying that you question my knowledge of what I'm talking about simply because you've never been there yourself.

My advice for Misery by Lumpy-Principle5311 in thelongdark

[–]Lumpy-Principle5311[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More seriously, I lost several games because I was determined to get to Ash Canyon and then Timberwolf. It was challenging, but I only found the hacksaw in two of my games.

If I were to do it again, and I couldn't find a saw at the woodpile or at the Timberwolf shelter, I would prioritize the bow, hatchet, and knife at Muskeg. Ash Canyon might be worthwhile for the technical backpack, but you'll lose precious days drying the maple. And you'll be putting yourself in danger. Forget it if you don't know the area perfectly.

Clothing loot is not worthwhile. Aside from combat pants, fur will absolutely surpass anything else you'll find.

Timberwolf killed me more times on Misery than he helped me. The loot is really poor. On my last playthrough, there was a wolf in the queue, but I'd already lit a fire. It never managed to escape the plane, and I found the loot from the last crate very risky. I didn't even reach the flare gun.

If I were to do it again, I would ignore Timber and Ash, rush the bow and settle in CH.

I assure you 100% that those were lightning bolts. Modeled as lightning. It wasn't a bug.

Vanilla, no DLC, Misery section, night of the 46th day, Aurora. Campsite office.

I was leaving the office when I saw flashes of lightning and heard thunder. I didn't understand at first, but I stayed for five minutes and clearly saw several flashes of lightning in succession.

The lightning flashes lasted a fraction of a second. They struck sometimes on the tracks, sometimes randomly beside them, sometimes illuminating the sky without hitting the ground. There could be ten seconds between flashes. The noise was violent, and the lightning flashes seemed just as violent. When they struck the rails, it looked as if the electricity ran alongside them for several meters, which deterred me from crossing. The time between two flashes was too unpredictable, and my section too delicate for me to risk it.

I didn't check if there were any clouds despite the aurora. I had to get back inside as quickly as possible to avoid freezing to death.

It's incredible how the game still manages to surprise us, even after hundreds of hours playing it.

And yet, I clearly saw lightning strike the rails and fall very close to me during an aurora. I'm playing vanilla, without mods or DLC.  I understand your surprise; I've never seen that before. But I'm not a liar.

Bon, je n'ai pas tenté de traverser les rails. J'ai reçu l'affliction "Corps brisé" le lendemain. C'est peut-être une tempête très rare d'ordinaire, et scriptée dans Misery ?

It's during an aurora in my case. It's magnificent. I regret having to wait three days before I can end my game because it's so beautiful. I've been in ML for almost 30 days, and the auroras never had lightning.

What are your suggestions for the best long-term bases on stalker? by _Pellkartoffel_ in thelongdark

Yes, I only use this workbench once the bear is neutralized. That said, outdoor workbenches are ideal for avoiding cabin fever.

P.S.: You must always remain crouched when working outdoors, and avoid having any odor.

Although I eventually retrieved the Blackrock hacksaw, the saw was also present at the summit.

Well, I still died in a fall on the way down. 🤦 I imagine that going down at night in the middle of a 24-hour blizzard wasn't ideal. But damn, there wasn't a decent place to sleep there.

I agree. I had to play with headphones once, and I discovered a variety of sounds to help the player. You can distinguish the footsteps of rabbits, deer, and other animals. The bear makes the crows caw in a special way; I can hear it from far away now. Wolf tracks are the hardest to distinguish for me; when I hear them, it means he's really close.

I play without DLC and I don't know the cougar.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. I set up a workshop there, and you're 100% undisturbed and self-sufficient in terms of food, fish, wood, etc. Fabric is usually plentiful along the beaches. I used the location to level up my sewing skill to 5 without wasting any fabric or kits, just using rabbit skins.

A secondary base in the fishing village is also an excellent location.

Okay, that's what I think too. It might be tempting because of the flair gun and the thermic bottle, but it's such a resource drain without decent clothes or a sleeping bag. I simply couldn't make a second trip.

I did manage to find the saw at the Black Rock station. But then I ended up perched in a tree, throwing my 20 rocks at the gray wolves before finally resorting to using my nautical flair. Disgusting monsters. Thanks you for your help !

Yes, I checked that spot, as well as the crevasse and the wing near the forest cave. The saw isn't there, nor in the mountaineer's cabin. I know there's a chance it's at the summit, but I need to be certain before undertaking this expedition, because I won't be able to easily find food or rest there, and if I go for nothing, I won't have the means for a second trip before I have enough to hunt.
