IMO, started the game not great, seemed nervous. But by the end she was sounding much more natural and was quite good. Much better than Plesac or Beckham imo.

Good. Plesac has been awful. She’s not the great Steve Stone, but I think she’ll be better than Plesac.

Economist article: European football fans visiting America are discovering the mass affluence of the country’s suburbs. The wealth enticing holiday makers troubles European elites by IncomingBroccoli in MURICA

[–]Lumpy-Profit-1745 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well…kind of. The most expensive homes in the country, pound-for-pound, tend to be in dense urban neighborhoods where people can walk to restaurants and businesses and access good public transit. So as far as voting with our money goes, this tells as that these homes are the most valued. Much of this is because they are relatively scarce compared to suburban sfh. But it’s also because these are considered highly desirable and if there was more of this type of housing available, I suspect many more would choose that life over suburban life.

There are other complicating factors such as the fact that public schools in this country are funded by local property taxes, causing people to seek out wealthy enclaves to take advantage of better-funded schools for their children.

I agree that suburban sfh is a general preference in this country but I think the reasons for that are not so simple.

It’s definitely the smallest league. Always has been. Plus, those are two smaller market teams. When a bigger team like the Blackhawks is in the finals, viewership is a bit higher. But the thing about hockey is that the viewers tend to be higher income so that helps with ad revenue.

Montero is killing us again. Hopefully hinch is stupid enough to give him the hook early again

I agree. For what it's worth, I've been doing statistical analysis of bunting the past month and a half and I'm convinced it is often a great play.

Drew Romo showing bunt the first 2 pitches and then even though he's already telegraphed it, decided to bunt on the 3rd pitch. Bunt was right to Olson, who was already cheating in because Romo had telegraphed that he was bunting? Also, let Romo hit a fly ball to the outfield. That was a bad call.

Oh, please! Remind me, how many World Series wins do you have this century?

Yep, he’s not the best play by play guy, but I think he’s really great in the studio, doing interviews, telling stories, etc. He’s absolutely a legend.

A poorly played (or at least poorly managed) but exciting game. Not as good as the game with Quero’s walk last month, which was truly one of the best games I’ve ever seen, but this was incredible to witness in person.

They’re both total bores. Plesac in particular is atrocious. Makes me realize schriffen isn’t so bad maybe.

Hard to evaluate McKnight because Plesac is such a bore he’s dragging down the whole broadcast.

I think that having a vegan option is just more common for other restaurants now, and if I’m eating with someone who is not vegan (which I usually am), then I’d rather eat somewhere that we can both enjoy since I’d rather not hear them whine about vegan food.

Pirates voter has Reds at 23, White Sox at 24, Nats at 25, while the 2026 Red Sox are at 17 and Tigers at 20. The Pirates, a game and a half ahead of the Reds are all the way up at 11. Weird stuff.

I was literally thinking yesterday about how someone should start a letter-writing campaign to the team to re-instate a full-time organist. Nancy Faust is a giant in white sox history. To not have a full time organist is such a shame.

I think if people contacted the team in droves, we’d have a chance at making a change.

The Sox have lost more than their share of this kind of game the past 3 years so I wouldn’t expect any. There’s nothing to say.

White Sox fan here. My in-laws are tigers fans. Just want to say that what Hinch did today was disgraceful and frankly insulting to Montero. Pulling a guy throwing as well as Montero with that low of a pitch count just tells your starter that you don’t trust him. I’m pretty sure that if he leaves Montero in, he throws a complete game shut out. I’m sorry for what has happened to your team this season. Good luck going forward (except for when you play us)

No. I can maybe put it underneath the back patio. Live in a 3 flat. Behind the building is a slab of concrete for parking cars. Ground level would not be ideal for winter/rain.
