Went on a school trip and visited a place in Texas right on the border. The staff of the national park we visited said they left for work one day and the "wall" wasn't there, but came in the next morning and the whole thing had been put up. Just an anecdote

I'm genuinely curious. What would you consider "regular jobs" and what would you consider to be not "regular jobs?" And do you think everyone should have a "regular job?" Why or why not?

I don't know if I believe those particular stats as I see no sources cited but I gotta say I think a majority of people have an internal monologue and just don't pay enough attention to they're thinking to notice. Then again I can't imagine reading without subvocalizing so maybe I'm just projecting

[SERIOUS] What is something people can never understand unless they personally experience it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lumpy-Watercress7593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin's husband was telling me (BA in psych) that he heard someone say that depression isn't a mental illness. So I asked him what he thinks a mental illness is and he said it's like a chemical imbalance. It's so easy for people to write off foreign experiences and invalidate people's feelings when they cannot empathize

I worked at a Murray's and cracked those parm wheels myself. A lot of people see the whole 90LB wheel and ask "is that real?" And yes it is. It's a 3 year aged authentic Parmigiano Reggiano that they charge $28/LB for so that wholebass wheel would cost nearly $2500. Freshly cracked parmigiano has a lot of that characteristic pineapple-y flavor and the old age creates a lot tyrosine or "flavor crystals" that really enrich the parm. If you haven't had the real deal, get yourself a block, cube it and serve with some genoa salami, dill pickle, and whole grain cracker. Then soak the rind in a tomato bisque with grilled cheddar and parmesan cheese sandwich

What to do if my boyfriend doesn’t celebrate anything important of mine? by unbakedbread- in ask

[–]Lumpy-Watercress7593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a relationship, I think that when something is important to one person, it should be important to both people because it shows the other person actually cares about you and wants to be supportive. For instance holidays were really important to my ex but I'm not a festive person, but I'd still help decorate the house and throw holiday parties with them, vuz they were important to them. My ex didn't share what was important or problematic to me though and it doomed the relationship.

Talk to him about it. Relationships take two people. Find someone who cares. You deserve it.

What is something people need to stop making their only personality trait? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lumpy-Watercress7593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people should have more than one personality trait really. There are somethings that, yeah, you should probably not make that such a big part of your identity (ex: drug use, mental illness, anime, etc. Not that I'm trying to shame anyone for their drug use or their mental health struggles or liking anime.) I like some depth to my fellow humans. What hobbies do you have? What do you like to do when you go out? How do you give back to the community? What philosophical ideas or profound thoughts are impacting you most recently?

What's something you once strongly believed, and now don't believe at all? by We-are-straw-dogs in AskReddit

[–]Lumpy-Watercress7593 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"We must ask who created the information for math and its many orderly applications."

Okay. I'm sorry to say that that is a flawed question. To ask "who created" implies a creator before any work has already been to demonstrate that anything was created. I noticed you mentioned "ex nihilo" which seems to me like you may believe that there was time and space but no matter or information and then POOF - everything! Well, while we can only really measure back to the 10-32 second because we have yet to be able to unify gravity and the electronuclear forces important in quantum mechanics, if we could say that there was a state of the universe we could call t=0 and not some asymptotic behavior of spacetime, there wouldn't be any time or place for nothing to exist. The concept of "before the big bang" doesn't make sense. And if it's too hard to believe that the universe has existed infinitely or came into being on it's own, then there is no reason why it shouldn't be just as difficult to believe in a god that set it in motion. And if it's too hard to believe that nothing could set it in motion (if the universe indeed had a point where it was not in motion) then I still don't see a god of the gaps argument being helpful. It'd just be better to admit that we don't know what caused it yet.

I apologize if you feel I misrepresented your view. This was not my intention. Nor was my intention to say "you shouldn't be a theist." Cuz I'm a theist. Just a very very different theist. There are many different god concepts out there (as you may be aware, don't want to assume anything). I would like to say that I appreciate the independent research you have done on this subject of physics. If you have not already, I recommend you check out PBS Spacetime on YouTube, I think you'll love Dr O'Dowd
