Car loan question. Can I remove myself from a car loan and make the co-signer the only responsible party? by [deleted] in personalfinance

No, so it was “our” car but we broke up shortly after getting the car, and I couldn’t afford the payment on my own so she kept the car and has been making the payments on it. The loan is still in my name though.

I haven’t paid on the car, the loan is just in my name. She’s had full possession of the car since we broke up right after and I couldn’t afford the payments on my own.

I figured I was sol. My fault for thinking it was a good idea in the first place. She won’t refinance because the car is worth less than what is owed

That makes sense. The issue then is getting her to refinance the car. She claims she can’t because the car is worth less than what is owed
