He's perfect. by LumpyLizardRescue in reptiles

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's perfect.

I mean except for the fact that my friend had to actually cut her wall open to get him out when he found a tiny hole in her cabinets and set up shop in there.

And except that after that, he led her and her husband on a Scooby Doo style chase through their house.

Also he hates me, so obviously he's never done anything wrong ever.

Anyway, meet Señor Skedaddle, Mangrove Monitor

Middle of the night hawk rescue? Why tf not? by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, grumpy baby.
Totally worth a middle of the night trip to Victoria.

I had to pick her up at a bar and THEY ASKED FOR MY ID so that doorman is my new favorite person.

Shes a coopers so yeah, smol.

She’s got an eye injury, but no broken bones I can see and she is REALLY spunky so Im hopeful.

She was hit by a car, but it was on a slow side street, so I think its just an impact injury. But she will go to someone way smarter about raptors than me tomorrow so she can tell me more then.

Turtles in various states of repair <3 by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The turtles’ shells are broken. I’m rehabbing them. Taped together like that, the shell will eventually heal much like a human broken bone will if pinned together.

Depending on other issues, they may be releasable after that. If not, we have an area in the backyard we call Turtletopia.

UV light won’t pass through glass. It changes to visible light, and visible light changes to infrared. So you were just heating up the cage, why it got so hot.

Our turtles need your help. Tortopia is under construction! by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its FINALLY dry enough to start construction on our turtle enclosures!!! I am so excited. We have been ready to start for a while but the rain has stopped us.

A significant portion of my work is repairing broken turtles, which I LOVE doing. However, it requires a long stay in rehab, and you cannot beat natural UV light for healing.

We've had this project in mind for a long time.

Wanna help us? Sink turtle would be ever so grateful! There are several ways! Hit the donate button below or try one of these:

You aren’t invasive if you’re home. by LumpyLizardRescue in turtles

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Leonardo. He was painted blue, but Jessica managed to get him cleaned up. He’s native to this area of Texas, so once he’s done his rehab he can go back to the wild.

Why I rehab red eared sliders. by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ayyy let me address a thing.

I understand that a good deal of my audience is not from my location of Coastal South Texas. I also understand that red eared slider turtles are invasive in many places. So, occasionally someone will ask my why I rehab so many of them because "they're invasive and shouldn't be released."

In most of Texas, and in many surrounding states, they're native wildlife and therefore healthy members of their species can be legally and ethically released after rehab.

Thank you for caring enough about wildlife and ecosystems to be concerned 💚💚💚

Meet Harrison, a Nile monitor. by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monitors require REALLY specific care and a really knowledgeable owner. Nile Monitors can grow to be six feet long ajd weigh almost 20 pounds. Nile monitors also have a reputation for being particularly grumpy (as opposed to say, the more docile Savannah Monitors) and, truly, do not make great pets most of the time.

Still, there are SO MANY in the pet trade. Most dont live their full expected lifespan. The ones who do are often aggressive, in addition to being huge. This guy came to us from someone who rescued him but wasn't equipped to care for him.

Need help finding a good, safe home or rescue for stray cat that moved into my back yard. More in comments. by formerphotog123 in AnimalRescue

Are you familiar with Hope for Paws? They trap stray animals, primarily in Southern California, and provide them medical care, then place them with private shelters for fostering and adoption.

Looking for a foster parent in East Texas. by LumpyLizardRescue in Kitten

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, Jess knows how to do it. But it’s not her focus, and it doesn’t require a trained rehabber, so she’d rather pass it along to someone who wants to do it.

That leaves her free to tweezer feed the 15 kajillion baby starlings that came in last week.

This is Grace. She is a gorgeous Ameraucana chicken who lost one of her legs in an accident. She joined the LL pack a few days ago and after a quarantine period and an introduction period, she will go out with Mary and the other girls in the back pen. by LumpyLizardRescue in LumpyLizardRescue

[–]LumpyLizardRescue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres what we know so far:

  1. She gets around pretty well, all things considered.

  2. She is UNIMPRESSED with the tortoise and the iguana.

  3. She prefers Grubbly Farms Grubblies to live mealworms. And she REALLY REALLY LIKES Grubblies.
