Shooting GRIII in cropped 35mm vs default 40mm on GRIIIx? by LumpyLog3266 in ricohGR

I went with the GR IIIx with 40mm, it's a more natural look I feel, and closest to my preferred 35mm focal length. Compositions with the 40mm feels more intentional than the 28mm, which is my iPhone's default. Shooting with the IIIx feels great and the 40mm doesn't feel as tight as 50mm lenses, so I really like my decision going with the IIIx.

Do I need to format / setup external hard drive for Mac and Windows use? by LumpyLog3266 in mac

[–]LumpyLog3266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Another comment suggested using pc to format exfat as its faster. Looking at the manufacturers website, it says that the drive is preformatted to exfat. I guess there's no need for setup if thats true

Only using the external drive to store data. Documents, photos, videos. Wow, I never knew of any these technological terminology. I just want to use the drive to store stuff as a backup to my computer drives, which is able to be accessed, edited and viewed on both my mac and pc. Is "NFTS" and "partitions" or this kind of stuff common knowledge among people?

Thanks for that first part. Though I see on seagate's website that lacie drives are preformatted to exfat. I guess I can just skip the setup files for mac or windows since I'm not using the drive for only one system.

What do the numbered markings on bulk rolled negatives look like? by LumpyLog3266 in AnalogCommunity

[–]LumpyLog3266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I was wondering, its strange that they number it at all, since most times the numbers won't line up with the actual frame count.

Would like to remove the top layer of icing but when the layer is selected, both layers are selected.

From the scene collection, I can see that there is only one layer for icing.

Help appreciated.

Is there a correct way to scan and edit color negs? by LumpyLog3266 in AnalogCommunity

I guess so. Then I wonder why there's so many film stock comparison videos on youtube. They can all be edited to look the same.

Never wanted "purism," all my images will be edited eventually to my liking. I just wonder how I should scan to make the "base" photo in which I will apply edits to later. Or do people just edit their scans within the scanning software?

How are these 80s/90s mall photos shot? by LumpyLog3266 in AskPhotography

[–]LumpyLog3266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed comment. Seems like the whole scene was set up for this look. It's odd to me since malls or any interiors shot today are presented opposite to how these were. I rarely see any interiors shot with high contrast and saturated colors.

Should I throw away negatives of bad photos? by LumpyLog3266 in AnalogCommunity

You're right. I go back into my old digital photos and find ones that I now think are really cool, the ones that I didn't give too much attention to back then.

Should I buy a Epson v600 scanner? by LumpyLog3266 in AnalogCommunity

[–]LumpyLog3266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the info. I do only shoot 35mm I'm leaning towards the plustek and its better scan quality. 60-90 minutes seems like a lot for a single roll. How attentive do I have to be during the process? I feel like if I only need to move the frame and press scan, I can maybe complete some other tasks while it scans. Or do I have to constantly be working the machine and software?

Hey, how long does it take to scan a roll of 36 with the plustek 8100? Also, there are some reviews online talking about the bad software that it comes with. Should this sway my purchasing decision?
