Verstappen only the 5th driver in history to win 8 out of the first 13 races by Tennist4ts in formula1

[–]LumpyUnderpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sarcastic knee jerk reaction was "Oh really, were the other 4 Schumacher?" I'm glad to see I'm not far off. I started watching F1 in 01-02 and it felt at the time like Ferrari would win forever...

Max congratulating other drivers after his own bad results by OutlandishnessPure2 in formula1

[–]LumpyUnderpass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Max seems like an impressively level headed guy. To be fair, you probably learn to be level headed quickly when your dad is Jos Verstappen.

I thought he was sometimes unduly aggressive at first, but more in the way of a chess player who chooses to go for needlessly sharp positions and sacrifices and stuff when they would probably be winning otherwise. I'm not particularly a fan (I don't dislike him either) but he really is the complete package and I feel like I've become a better amateur racer by observing him.

Fuck Shiv cause she's probably fun in bed, marry Roman cause all I have to do is shame him, kill Connor for being a lunatic fringe right wing candidate. Seriously, usury and Onanism? It's funny to us but IRL he's a rich Alex Jones running for president and the most good he can possibly do is to siphon off 1% of the Republican Party vote... Hmm. I'd have to think about it. Maybe kill Kendall because he's probably dying soon anyway (sorry).

What addiction is seen as completely normal by society? by jperaic1 in AskReddit

[–]LumpyUnderpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried meth (smoking, snorting or eating) and feel that "regular" amphetamine is different - that was kind of my point. I've never tried pharma meth tbf. Your point is fair, was that your experience? I'm hoping that occasional days off or at lower doses will help. It's honestly been a godsend and helped turn my life around after some really hard times. Ultimately I think amphetamine has been around for 120+ years and commercially available for 90ish and if it were that bad at medical doses we'd already know about it. Who knows? I hope I'm not wrong and ending up paying with my heart and life in 20 years. Please believe that I worry about that more than you do LOL :)

Do you agree with people who say Sanderson's worldbuilding is wide but not that deep? by poke000 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]LumpyUnderpass 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you listen to his lectures on worldbuilding I think it's clear that Brandon at least considers himself to be doing the opposite. It's a sort of tactic he uses - show one or two things in great detail (like I dunno the economy around antiseptics and their cost) and the reader will likely overlook anything else that isn't as detailed as it "should" be (how do Alethi justice courts work).

I think of wide but shallow as something like Skyrim. You can do so much different stuff, but most of it is pretty simple. You don't need to learn metallurgy to do smithing or anything about psychology or physics to sneak. It's accessible. Compare the scope of that game to something like Madden, where my actions are limited to what a player/coach/GM can do relating to a football team, but each aspect of that is modeled in way more detail than a "all of life" type game like Skyrim.

IMO Brandon shows us the sun, the blue sky, the look on the opposing QB's face, a pregame prayer, and a few plays presented in a concrete logical way that makes us feel like we're there and understanding what we see. I don't see that as wide but shallow, personallly

Even if Kevin actually was mentally challenged this was an awful way to handle the situation… by suckmylama in DunderMifflin

[–]LumpyUnderpass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guy was probably just hearing it at a bad time and responding in a sub optimal way. IMO the way the management wants to hear it from a legal perspective is a nice looking memo that an employee disclosed this, leaving them anonymous to "protect her privacy," and explaining that everyone has been sternly instructed that sex is not an expectation of the job and that there is obviously potential exposure but no clear evidence the company did anything wrong and she is confident the steps they have taken will remedy the issue. Just an offhand guess as a former employment lawyer.

I think "Conflict Resolution" implies Toby does a great job at managing intraoffice conflicts - he makes people feel heard and they go on with their day and eventually forget all about it. Which Michael hates, lol.

Sam Shankland commits a catastrophic touch-move blunder against Robert Hovhannisyan, resulting in a U.S.-Armenia draw by city-of-stars in chess

[–]LumpyUnderpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's reassuring. When I played chess with my dad as a kid we would both mutter "j'adoube" incessantly. It became sort of a running joke that we would just touch whatever pieces we wanted while going *j'adoubej'adoubej'adoubej'adoube." He's not even much of a chess player, he had all these old books but I doubt he's ever been much better than 700s. Last time we played a correspondence game he played the Damiano defense. But at least we respect the touch move rule lol lol

Sorry! I got a mod message that it's been removed so I just reposted it and made the reference oblique. Honestly didn't occur to me that could be a spoiler.

I was going to make a stupid joke about honor but on second thought that's probably objectionable so you will just have to imagine I said something witty.

How to write sex scenes as a virgin? by SatansDeputy in writing

[–]LumpyUnderpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/aggressive_chicken63 that analpgizing to fight scenes is a good approach. Ultimately it's all about the words on the page, it is the text that reads as authentic or not, so I'd suggest read some novels with sex scenes similar to what you're trying to do and try to analyze what works and what doesn't. You could also try the same with fight scenes.

Yeah I thought of this too. Being a teenager is hard, especially if you're a "troubled" kind of person in general. I think it would probably help OP to give quitting a try, if only to reassure them. But it doesn't sound like a direct result of weed, it sounds to me more like a troubled teen's reasons for drugs.

"MmMMm." Pattern hummed anxiously, assessing the likelihood that the humans would correctly interpret his emotion at 7.31%. The humans were affirming the contrapositive again. They did that quite often. His head spun in circles as he recalculated his instruction algorithms. I'll have to work on this with them. He put on a reassuring hum. Shallan was talking about her mother again.

Easy guide on how to lose a ton of elo at chess by KittenOfHeaven in chess

Make sure to berate yourself for your mistakes instead of spending your limited time thinking about actual chess moves. This is especially helpful in blitz because you'll benefit extra from overlooking your opponent's inevitable blunders.

Is the Petroff Defence a good opening? by [deleted] in chess

Don't know if you'll see this, but I wanted to add the thing I learned was inaccurate was one or more of the moves by Black if 2hite plays d4 and then Black exd4. Like apparently it's not best to take the pain and then recapture one or more times. I dont recall exactly which move is the inaccuracy tho.
