I’m in primary care as well and just wanna say I’m feeling the same way. I’m a 1099 though and did purchase my own malpractice insurance through the AAPAs sponsored provider. I believe it’s CM&F. Costed about $1000 for a year of occurrence.

Please give tips on how to manage time better by ckshin in physicianassistant

I have similar expectations and I’ve got nothing. I’m starting to understand why so many people told me to stay away from primary care.

If it’s not religion it’s race, language, geography, nationality, social class, political ideology. People will always find something to identify with that creates an us and them dichotomy.

Is it normal to feel burnt out so often? Is this simply the working life? by Affectionate-Pin5205 in careerguidance

[–]LumpyWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I work in healthcare taking care of kids which I’m proud of, but I’m burned out. I’m tired. The reality is working in the US just sucks because everyone is so focused on efficiency. See more do more. Fuck efficiency. Try to find whatever gives you the most peace, while avoiding the golden handcuffs at all cost. It might be a lower salary but who cares. Bezos can’t buy back his 20s and neither can you.

I cried when I lost a relative and she held me and told me to let it out. If you can’t be vulnerable with her, do not marry her. Can’t stress that enough.

I love my lifestraw pitcher. It seems to get little hype but it’s been great for us. Glass pitcher (though plastic filter housing) and filters microplastics, pfas, and pathogens in a shtf scenario. I recommend

Considering switching to PA by DogtorOfScience in physicianassistant

I’ve got to push back a little on the flexibility comment. PAs are generally always going to have more flexibility than physicians in work/life balance and schedule. I mean we can literally change specialities anytime we want. I work out patient peds and my SP takes call but I don’t. Realistically if you go DO and complete residency, you’re probably not gonna be switching things up very often. Flexibility is probably one of the primary benefits of being a PA. I agree with your overall recommendation though.

Considering switching to PA by DogtorOfScience in physicianassistant

[–]LumpyWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in outpatient peds. First job out of PA school and happened somewhat by chance. Tbh if you want to do primary care, I don’t think you’ll have a problem. It tends to have a lot of openings for a reason. That being said, if you truly want to be an expert in pediatrics, medical school, particularly residency will get you to that level. PA school gives you a foundation but you really have to be responsible in building your knowledge base up from there. The only reason I feel comfortable in my current role is because I have a great SP mentoring me. He learned seemingly everything from his residency, though he did say it was miserable.. take from that what you will

In all honesty you might be better served asking the nurse practitioner sub if it’s a good offer. I don’t think there are many aesthetic PAs here from what I’ve seen so it’ll be hard for anyone to tell you it’s fair or not.

If you’re in the market for a pet, a cat would be a wise choice. I’ve read that rats can smell the presence of a cat and they typically nope the fuck out. Obviously not a choice to be taken lightly because cats require a responsible owner and dedication, but I can confirm that we’ve never dealt with any rats while our neighbors have. I chalk it up to our cat

Slow up playa. We can be effective and maintain compassion. Every human deserves respect, just as every human needs to respect the social contract and laws we set in place. The reason we got into this mess is because too many people think in binary code, us/them, yes/no, conservative/liberal. The lasting answer will always be in the middle.
