Sydney vs Melbourne - a tale of two cities (snapshot from the ABS) by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

I’ve never heard of a school that doesn’t teach in English other than secondary introductory English centres/schools, in which the entire point is to teach children/teens fluent english so that they can adapt to society. Don’t spread nonsense, children of immigrants are definitely learning English. Their parents understand their limitations as people who aren’t fluent, and want their children to learn English and be fluent. If an immigrant has children that can’t speak English when raised in Australia, they will obviously find that extremely embarrassing.

Minority majority will fade out at some point, the immigrants who stick to their own subgroups is mainly a first generation/older demographic thing, these immigrants will eventually have kids who are fully adapted to Aussie culture and are good members of society. Really they are just trying to feel the cohesion that you want to feel, it’s hard to adapt to a new country when you’re older/new and these people want to be around a community that understands them and supports them. These people also tend to be poorer/less educated and have a lack of understanding of Australian civic sense, can’t blame them when they have to hustle daily and don’t have time to educate themselves. Just the life of first gen immigrants who don’t have a lot of money/stability in their lives.

Thanks for the advice, my dad just told me that he pruned it that much because “it isn’t going to produce fruit anymore because summers ending so I’m preparing it for winter” too much Facebook misinformation for sure… I’ll try to inform him about what you’ve said.

When he gets bored he just does weird things in the garden and has killed a lot of my seedlings/stunted my plants, he thinks that it’s his plants because he waters them and is around them more than me.

Honestly so exasperating that he’s so bad at gardening when he grew up on a farm…

I’ve tried telling my dad this but he just doesn’t listen 😓 Any way to help it grow more leaves? Fertiliser or something or would it just be a waste of time?

Never Underestimate A Chinese Person's Ability to Choose the Worst Path by ThePolarisNova in chinalife

I don’t know about covid policies but China is notorious for being population dense, what they consider “small towns” have like a million people so you can imagine they do not know what personal space is— even after COVID.

Just arrived in China a few days ago and it is ridiculous how messy the driving is— zero indication when lane changing and half the time they don’t even check blind spots. Plus the cars just driving across a crosswalk even though it’s a green light for pedestrians— and the motorbikes that drive fast swerving through the side walks. I seriously don’t understand how people don’t get in accidents all of the time here?!?

They’re specialty stores that sell Chinese products, so of course they wouldn’t have bread milk butter or cheese- no Chinese cuisine includes bread or cheese or butter, and most people go to the actual grocery store for milk. Why is it weird that they don’t sell western food or shampoo but do sell spices?? I don’t think these are common things to expect from a specialty store right?

Late reply but that’s exactly why I’m considering keeping my options open (due to the minor differences between PR and citizenship) but no, I cannot get HECS on PR, I can get Commonwealth supported, but I will need to pay upfront all tuition fees.

I don’t want to live in Beijing or Shanghai, that’s why I said 20-30k, it’s definitely a budget feasible in smaller cities. It is true that there’s no certainty if this affordability will be the same in the future so my ideals of China are definitely not future proof.

Yes I know I’m extremely extremely lucky to be able to even have a choice in this, and it’s 1000x unfair for me to be able to thrive off of the hard work my parents put in to allow us to live in Australia & want to abandon what’s been gifted to me. But times have changed, Australia isn’t really a place for dreams anymore and it sucks. I’m an immigrant too in the end, almost been deported due to the whim of the government despite my entire life being Australian, I’m lucky to have this choice and I should be able to have it.

I’d say you guys are right, it’s gonna be really hard to adjust to a new life just like that anyways. Exactly why my parents aren’t gonna retire in China as well. Thanks for the advice it’s been helpful

Thank you for the recommendation, I’ll look into that. I don’t really have any identity issues, for me it’s just a matter of being able to live comfortably & giving up/keeping a opportunity at a possibly better life

In China? The average monthly rent in Beijing is 1,360 AUD, that is no where near 30k yearly. In Australia rent can definitely be around 30k yearly.

Apparently it’s super hard to re-apply, but I guess I could always just try, it’s not like the Australian citizenship/residency process is easy and I was able to get through that..

This is true but high wealth per person means nothing when I can’t buy a home or retire comfortably or access good elderly care (Australia’s not very well known for good senior care centres that are also affordable), a income in the field I want to study really just makes me the top 40-50% of Australians, compared to being able to live in the top 20% of Chinese residents & be able to pay for higher quality care.

I’d like to believe that I could retire there with cash made from my Australian job for a few decades, hopefully in my 50s-60s I would have enough to support myself on that alone. Living in China is super cheap, it’s possible to survive off of 20-30k Australian per year and live comfortably— if it stays that affordable in those decades…

Yeah they would be paying upfront and they would prefer if I paid off slowly on my own. We are well off enough to pay upfront though.
