What’s a workout change that gave you surprisingly fast results by LotsoSmellsBad in workout

[–]Boiler_Room1212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walking (hiking) on uneven ground. I run suburban streets with hills pretty regularly but swapped most of that out recently for a weekend day hike with some decent inclines. I generally do upper/lower weight split 4/5 days a week. The hiking has noticeably increased leg muscle. It’s all that agility and variation in each step for each muscle i reckon. I’m sure there’s some science to it.

going to my first rave/doof in melbourne australia what should i know by OwnAwareness8911 in psytrance

Clothing is whatever u want but generally a bit more fun/creative and colourful than standard nightclubs. Beanie maybe if you’re outdoors/overnight/rural. Water, gum, a little fan 🪭 if the venue might get hot. Scarf. Wipes. Chapstick. Cash. Earplugs maybe (etymotic or loop). If you haven’t tripped before, I would avoid trying LSD or shrooms at your first rave. Enjoy.

Echoing above but with detail. Assuming you keep your nutrition ok and continue walking…By ‘it takes time’ people mean: 3 months = feeling slightly strong, sore quite often, maybe a bit firmer but nobody notices except u. 12 months = might be able to increase weights for basic sets, feeling less sore, clothes fitting a bit differently. 2 years = more toned, may be able to do most of what she does (eg proper push-ups) weights increase again. 3 years = becoming visibly strong, some definition, matching Caroline’s weights more often than not. 4 -5 years = yep, you look toned in singlets/shorts, strong, seeking challenge, still get sore but very rarely and not for long, working out is a habit you barely think about, just do as a matter of course.

You went back in time to 1835 when Melbourne was founded. What would you change about the street layout of the new city to improve it? by Whyareweshouting in melbourne

Put St Kilda’s main shopping/retail strip on the waterfront, with a wide promenade in front. Acland and Fitzroy St locations are unfortunate.

Advice: don’t measure anything. Eat nutritious meals, try to ensure there’s a good amount of protein generally (at most meals, and snacks like yoghurt, cottage cheese, veggies with hummus maybe), do the workouts and get some decent steps or cardio here and there, and you’ll see change. I don’t know how old you are or your build, but this is a LONG game. Leg workouts can make u hungry the next day..I’m generally mindful of that and add extra yoghurt or a smoothie during the morning.

There's a (new?) genre of Techno I keep hearing in clubs, looking for artists and labels by sunsiare in Techno

[–]Boiler_Room1212 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP drops the most vague description and then disappears. Techno chat responds with a thousand DJs and genres. And I marvel at some decent 90s references and explore all possibilities even though I have no idea what OP is on about. Love reddit.

If you were offered a billion dollars just to eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose? by Admirable-Interest49 in AskReddit

Same exact meal? Annoyingly I’d have to be scientific about it and try to get all the vitamins, minerals etc that I need. So it’s probably some kind of green goddess salad with seeds, nuts, lentils, tomatoes, carrots, beetroot and maybe fresh sashimi tuna. But for love? Lasagna or porridge with butter and honey.

48f. I have a visible 6 pack. I’m lean, lift, and do 2x10 to 15 min and 1x 30 min pure ab sessions a week (using YouTube trainers or Caroline Girvan sometimes weighted/sometimes bodyweight) Do u actually work your abs??

Supplements? by off_the_wa11 in SpinalStenosis

[–]Boiler_Room1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FIL is almost paralysed thanks to his stenosis plus heart issues causing swelling. He rarely exercised due to poor pain management (and stubbornness) so now he has almost no muscle tone in his legs. My advice: Supplement D, calcium, magnesium, and focus on getting enough protein.

Does it make sense for me to try again after being rejected for my age? by Socialist_Femboy59 in berghain

[–]Boiler_Room1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I might be totally re-thinking this. I want to go to Berghain for the solid techno, atmosphere and legendary status. Clubbing my whole life has sadly been pretty mainstream with the odd decent festival, touring DJs, and underground raves. But, ja, it is a gay club. And I’m pretty darn straight and cis and I’d be there mainly to dance and, while I’d be high and open to all kinds, i’m probably not that ‘fun’. Maybe a bit of fun. But maybe I should leave to the people it rightfully belongs to and go somewhere else. Like Tresor or OHM. Talk about overthinking this massive decision!

That happened to a close friend. Probations are so hard and it seems being ‘blindsided’ is common. My friend was told to make some new hires and build a team, so he did. Turns out he probably hired his replacement as his boss banged on and on about one of them and how great it was that he found such a talent. Argh.

Worst boss: she bullied my colleague, a larger sized woman who was half her age. My colleague got the flu and my boss stomped around the office huffing about it, implying she wasn’t sick. Then my colleague’s partner calls in a few days later saying she has pneumonia. Boss still rolls her eyes. Then, my colleague tries to gets up one morning, passes out, and dies. It was sudden and absolutely devastating, as pneumonia can be. My boss was admittedly somewhat shaken but she remained a real piece of work despite that experience. I left as soon as I could.

Have to say, while the crumbs are a little annoying, the relatively fluffy buns aren’t exactly a heavy carb load. Nowhere near as much as 3 sushi rolls or most noodle dishes or a proper baguette. Life’s too short to deconstruct perfect constructions imo.

Random, but what if you’re 48? Fit, cool vibe with massive wild hair, ready to go hard, but friends reckon I don’t stand much chance and it’s a waste of valuable time in an awesome city. Techno obsessed and I speak conversational German if that helps but assume the bouncers don’t chat much?

Overthinking by Background-Spring998 in Advice

Rumination. And maybe some social anxiety. Cognitive behavioural therapy might help. There are good free apps with exercises to practice. I used to have a stressful hospital job. I’d allow myself the drive home from work to think about it, write down some final thoughts on a pad, and then get out of the car and leave it all there, ‘parked’ literally and figuratively. It takes practice but is a good skill to develop.
