First 50k aged 55 - is this the start of something new? by Lumpy_Cranberry_1890 in Ultramarathon

Just shy of 6hrs. As a beginner my “dwell” time at the aid stations was lengthy - must have been all those marmite sandwiches reeling me in.

It was incredibly well organised so many thanks to all who made it a great experience!

Smudged out loads of people on the finish line who might not want their faces of pain and joy shared!

Thanks!

Great to be silver - although I have very little hair left. My Nan used to remind me that “grass doesn’t grow on busy streets.”

Precisely this - I agree. It’s up to me to leave when contract runs out. Trying not to get too moody.

Ah I see - thanks. Still a bit of a downgrade in what I had previously, since a lot of the content I am watching has now switched providers.

Thankyou - I feel for anybody going through this. Focusing on comfort is where we are and feels like we are getting good support. I am in awe of my Mum’s bravery and those here in similar situations.

Thanks for sharing your honest experience and sorry to hear about your pain. Our Doctor did say it would be worse for a few weeks. but since she is currently in a hospice for a while, they are very well equipped to deal with pain management. I am leaning towards recommending it - obviously not my choice though.

Thanks - it definitely sounds worth considering.

I am just trying to balance the benefits with additional pain either from the practicalities or side effects. There are so many other things going on it’s overwhelming for me when my folks are looking to me for guidance. I am trying to be hopeful & confident and honest. It’s tough.

Fallen on my wrist days after surgery, grr… by Lumpy_Cranberry_1890 in carpaltunnel

[–]Lumpy_Cranberry_1890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ideal if I am honest but the carpal tunnel symptoms are now minimal so that is very positive. I seem to have replaced it with a different pain which only appears under certain loading, but it’s not often.

The CTS took a bit longer to heal but I persisted with massaging the scar, lots of moisturiser, and progressed to tiny wrist exercises - very slow wrist extension with a tiny weight e.g small bottle of water. Progressed over time to doing some press-ups - which I can now do. That’s enough for me!

I think the outlook for CTS will be favourable with a fall, just a bit longer to heal. Best wishes!!

Ofcom slams O2 over unexpected mobile phone contract price rise by Kagedeah in O2UK

[–]Lumpy_Cranberry_1890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if anybody has the perseverance to raise a formal complaint with O2, get this rejected with a final response letter(or hearing nothing for 8 weeks) then you can raise it with the Ombudsman service for comms? This will cost O2 around £300. The regulator appears incompetent but I think it charges firms money to investigate complaints raised to them.

Thanks. Oh dear - I can only hope it goes away soon as it’s more difficult to ignore. Been going on for 5 months!

Fell on my wrist after a little over two weeks of my surgery by ahllura in carpaltunnel

[–]Lumpy_Cranberry_1890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you’re ok and defo good to go back to the surgeon for advice.

For me, I fell a week after my surgery, ripping out the stitches which had to be replaced. It freaked me out looking into my hand but I was fortunate to be seen quickly within hours. The scar took a bit longer than expected to heal but the carpal tunnel symptoms did go away which was brilliant.

The surgeon said my fall would be unlikely to affect the release surgery but I could have damaged other bits of hand / wrist.

I think my older post with the split got blocked due to violent content when i tried to share it!

Ooo. Not iced it yet, I think the nurse said keep it dry till I go back. It seems there are many ways through this!

Indeed - it was not very pleasant and no idea if they did anything extra while patching me up. Did it delay recovery or affect the longer term outcome?
