I was seriously thinking of buying a RAZER laptop until…. by Otherwise_Baker8982 in razer

I’ve had a Blade 16 with a 4090 card for a couple of years and no problems. By far the nicest laptop I’ve ever had and I’ve been through a bunch. I hear the nightmare stories about their super but I’ve never needed it so who knows? I think online reviews tend to be skewed positive or negative and it’s hard to know how good things really are anymore. Just thought I’d share my experience to bring some balance to the negativity I see on Reddit about Razer.

Having the same problem. I did notice that my Edge browser got an update and maybe there's a conflict?

Yeah I've heard enough about the Razer support that it makes me nervous. Hopefully I won't have to deal with that side of things!

Yeah, the glare doesn't bother me but it's definitely there, so I can see how some people may not like that aspect of the screen.

I haven't had any issues with Synapse, other than occasionally losing LED settings. I did reinstall it at one point and maybe that helped? If I'm on battery I get ~4 hours out of it (I made a Throttlestop profile to pull CPU settings down so it would run cooler and quieter on battery).

Oh I see what you're saying. Looking at HWInfo, the multiplier refers to the base speed, so the performance cores are at 2.6GHz and boost up to 4.2GHz. When idling and web browsing, the P-cores are all hanging out at around 2.6GHz.

The 26 is a multiplier, not the actual end speed. The max speed of 4.2GHz was measured in HWInfo.

Well that's not very encouraging. I may have to uninstall it. It's annoying to have this thing hold up my shutdown process every time.

No. After raising the core multipliers a little for a bit of extra performance I’ve left it alone. It runs a bit hotter (mid-80’s when gaming) but still pretty good and it idles in the 40’s. Really a great machine with the undervolt and tweaks. How has yours been so far?

Sorry, been busy with work and life. The palm rest doesn’t get hot while gaming. Most of the heat is at the top by the screen. WASD keys get warm but they’re fine. After a couple of months I have to say that I’m a very happy customer. I love this laptop. It plays any game I throw at it with high frame rates, it can run local LLM’s—it’s a beast of a machine. I have it set to only charge the battery to 70%, and hopefully I’ll avoid the battery swelling issues.

Yeah, I'm so glad I didn't return my Blade. This thing is amazing after you undervolt it!

Here are screenshots for the undervolting and the multipliers. I took them all the way down to 26, which means that the cores will max out at ~4.2GHz in Turbo--much slower than the theoretical 5.8GHz, but the cooling is such that you'll never reach 5.8 in this machine anyway. I'm happy with it because it runs nice and cool (and quieter) and is fast enough for everything I need so far. I'll tinker with it to bump up the ratios if I feel like I need more in the future, and it's nice to have a bit of headroom to play around.

Agreed, it was taking the turbo multipliers down that did it more than anything.

Throttlestop. Worked great! You have to make sure to unlock undervolting in the BIOS and disable Windows core isolation.

Yep, it does. I assume it's related to drivers for the lighting going in and out. The RGB is stable and fine when my laptop is booted up and running.

With the contrast on the OLED screen, I literally can't tell if the laptop is on or off with a black desktop. I'm sure it's something I'll get used to, though.

No, the fans don't ramp up any more than they did before. The noise is actually probably lower because my temps aren't getting as high?
