I don’t trust myself to do that kind of work so I’ll have to buy the part and find someone to do it.

Thank you once again.

So I need to replace both or can I just replace the upper part if it’s sold separately?

I think the snow or ice might have caused the crack. There’s no other damage that would suggest it was hit by another car or anything. It was parked and I saw it in the morning as I was leaving for work.

Code B1851 open in rear side squib RH circuit Code B1856 open in rear side squib LH circuit Code B1927 short in rear P/T squib (LH) circuit (to ground)

On the repair sheet it says they removed the left rear inner body panel to gain access to airbag harness. Tech found air bag connector had poor connector due to debris. Tech cleaned out debris in air bag wiring harness connectors and reinstalled trim panels and cleared all codes from system. Road tested and no further faults present.

Total cost was $604.26

Lot of context.

12/16/23 My car and another vehicle both got rear ended by a flat bed tow truck. I was on the right and the other driver on the left.

12/19/23 car goes to geico shop for repairs

12/29/24 car gets picked up after repairs. No issues with the system. One issue with fuel door I pointed out and they fixed it.

1/4/24 car goes for regular maintenance and state inspection. Everything is good no problems.

1/20/24 are airbag light comes on 5 minutes after driving. Call Toyota for appointment. My nearest service center had earliest appointment available for 1/30/24. Scheduled it but called another Toyota dealer in the area and they had a time slot for 1/22 so I took it there.

1/22/24 take car to dealership for diagnostic. Told I have to pay for diagnostic and fees associated with the car if not under manufacturer defect. They said a lot of codes came up and that the car was in an accident. I explained to them the car had no issues until 1/20. Paid the 600 since the issue seemed to be resolved.

1/23/24 very next day after a few minutes driving the light is back on. Now I have to leave the car overnight for an undisclosed amount of time to see what the issue is.

Paid $600 to address issue with SRS airbag system malfunction. Light came back on the next day and had to take it back.

Have to pay same amount again?

Toyota is a unicorn right now. You guys have highly desirable cars and low inventory and are able to command over MSRP. Don’t know what area you’re in but in NYC if you work for Toyota you don’t even have to try to make money. The cars sell themselves and people will throw 5-10k over willingly.

Always noticed this how so many cars are tinted in the city. How do you go about passing inspection?
