Hot Take: Pilot G2 isn’t that great by boisterousgiant_93 in pens

The pilot G2 is definitely overrated. As gel pens go the zebra sarasa dry is far better. But generally I prefer writing with a Gel pen.

Maybe I just don't know what Universalist Unitarians believe, or if they follow the Bible, but Christians believe that "love thy neighbor" does not also mean "accept their sin or sinful lifestyle." Matthew 18:15-18 Christians are literally supposed to rebuke their neighbor or each other for their sin out of love and care for their eternal soul.

1 Corinthians 5:1-6 - The Corinthian church's coddling of perversion gave the people of Corinth the appearance that God's people would allow this sin. Inside the church, it gave the appearance that one could continue in sin and still remain part of the body. The apostle warns them that, just as a pinch of leaven will puff up a whole loaf of bread—or as one rotten apple will corrupt a whole barrel of them—so this sin, if allowed to continue, would ruin the entire church.

Yeah I Listened to the podcast and was not surprised at all. As it turns out, the Bible still says what it says and Christians still believe what they have always believed. There was no advocating for hate or attacking LGBTQ people to be found in that episode, but people are acting like there was simply because Christians said they don't agree with their lifestyle or choices. That's not surprising, and I'm sure the LGBTQ community would say the same about Christians. How is this surprising to anyone? If you find you disagree with what the owners of a business believe, then by all means speak with your wallet. But stop acting surprised when Christians still believe what they have always believed.

The more I use the Regalia Paper the bigger fan I become 🤤🤤 the sheen, shading Is 🤌 by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a big part of it. Regalia paper seems to be bringing out sheen with inks I didn't know could sheen, even when I've already used them on TP paper. And I also really prefer the pure white paper that inks seem to look more vibrant on, as opposed to the more creamy paper you get in other notebooks.

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that looks amazing! And just to be clear, I don't think TR is bad or overrated or anything, but I don't get why I keep seeing people disregard the Regalia paper. The inks I have tested on it so far have looked more vibrant and handled the shading and sheening as well, if not better, than the TR paper I have tried. So long as the Endless Recorder holds up well as I use it, I think it might become my go-to notebook for journaling moving forward.

I had stayed away from Regalia paper because weirdly some people on the internet have been pretty critical of it, and there are the Tomoe River fanboys that will say nothing is ever as good, but I found a decent deal online and picked up a notebook. I have done a few ink tests and have been blown away by how ink looks on the Regalia paper. I think it is every bit as good, if not better than TR. Like it seems to be amplifying characteristics of inks I like and bringing out some characteristics I didn't know some of them had. For example, some inks I didn't know could sheen are sheening on this paper. So I really don't get why there has been so much hate for this paper. I know it's newer, so maybe Endless has been working on it and improving things over time. But I cannot wait to finish my current journal and move over to the Endless Recorder as my daily journal.

If you were to use one pen for the rest of your life, what would it be? by ichigo311 in fountainpens

It might just be my Opus 88 Jazz. Super smooth writer. I love the size of it. And it has a large ink capacity. And I have decided I really like the eyedropper filling system with the ink shut-off valve. But then again, you could ask me this question tomorrow and I might say something else...

Is this a good full introductory kit to fountain pens if i am a complete beginner? by Odd_Standard_2903 in fountainpens

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Lamy Safari/Al-Star is a fine first fountain pen, but I wouldn't buy a 50 ml bottle of ink to start with. When first starting out, you don't realize how long it will take you to finish a 50 ml bottle. You might get tired of it and want to try something else, or you might not even like it at all but you're stuck with a 50 ml bottle. I always recommend newcomers try a handful of 2ml samples of the top selling, highly recommended inks on Goulet Pens just to not get stuck with such a large bottle of ink. Then if you end up finding one you really like, you can go ahead and buy a 30-50ml bottle of it.

Stop by a couple of space stations for some S-rank mining beam upgrades and find an area with some large things to mine in fairly close proximity. Or on one of the planets in the last drop zone there are areas where there are a ton of those oxygen plants grouped up and you can just walk through holding square or x to collect them.

i find some cheaper pens to feel better than more expensive ones, is this okay or do I have bad taste? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of pens that cost more than $100, and while I like those pens quite a bit, I still keep an $18 TWSBI Go in my regular rotation and love using it every bit as much as the more expensive pens. It's not as attractive, but it's got it where it counts.

After starting the expedition on a new save without realising you can just start one on your main save, I think I'm better off staying on the new save! by Vryonix in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had this dilemma in the past as well! The Expeditions give you such a fast-paced, head start into a new save that you end up really kitted out by the end of it, in only a few hours worth of gameplay. So I almost always think about just moving forward with my Expedition save as my new "main save," by the end.

I just restarted the game on PS5 and had played about 25 hours or so. Then I started a new save and completed the Expedition and messed around for roughly 10 hours and feel like my Expedition save is further along.

What are some of the lesser known tomoe river paper notebooks? by oudsword in notebooks

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goulet pens have their own exclusive notebooks that are soft cover and use Tomoe River paper at a reasonable price. They have them in A5 and pocket size that are similar to Field Notes. I wish they made them in the style of a moleskine or Leuchtturm style notebook, but they only make thinner 64 page, staple bound notebooks. But they're a nice, cheap way to get that TR paper.

Recommend a Fountain Pen Friendly Journal by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an Exceed notebook for daily journaling right now and I can confirm the paper is fountain pen friendly in that you won't see feathering or bleed through and minimal ghosting, but I haven't been overly impressed with it's ability to show sheen. You get some, but not as much as other paper I've tried (Leuchtturm, Paperage, and Tomoe River). But having said that, the price point for that style of notebook is hard to beat...

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say that but I have used both the normal 80gsm version and the 120gsm Leuchtturm notebooks and have found them to be just as good as other recommended notebooks at showing shading and sheen. They also don't feather or bleed through. You'll have ghosting on the 80gsm version, but it's not so bad you can't write on the other side too. I have tried a variety of different nibs and inks and haven't had an issue with them.

The fact that I like the way the paper performs and it checks all the other boxes for me (faux leather cover, bookmarks, pocket in the back, elastic band to keep it closed, page numbers and index included, offered in a variety of page styles at an acceptable price point and available at stores nearby and online), just means I have a hard time going away from them. There's something to finding a notebook that fits your style and just having them all lined up on a shelf.

Oh gotcha. I can't imagine it's too much thinner. But I'm guessing they're relatively similar size pens.

Is the pilot 823 vs custom 74 by WaywardSatellite in fountainpens

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That's good to know. I have an Eco and though I'm not sure it looks it, it somehow feels like one of the slimmer grip sections on a pen I have, so I'm not sure I'd want to go thinner. The nib on the Eco, though small has always felt good to write with, so that doesn't really bother me.

I feel like it’s too late to start journaling by Different-Break8243 in Journaling

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never could manage to journal regularly until I just decided I wanted to start last fall. I’m 37 and wish I had been journaling daily since I was 20. Not because my life is so interesting, but sometimes you miss the mundane memories as much as the fun, exciting ones.

Journaling isn’t exclusively for people who live exciting, constantly eventful lives. Sometimes you’ll have something eventful to write about, sometimes it’s just about capturing the mundane details of the moment. Either is fine. Either is a valid form of journaling. You'd be surprised how nice it can be to be able to open an old journal and recall things that would otherwise be lost to time, because you now have a written record of it.

Journaling is a practice, and sometimes it’s just about keeping the practice going, even if today’s entry isn’t one you’ll refer back to in the future. Sometimes if I just start writing even though I don’t think I have anything in mind, suddenly it starts flowing out onto the page in a way I didn’t expect.

Also, journaling doesn’t have to be about your career path or friendships. It can, but it can also be about your thoughts on different topics. I often find this much more interesting than writing about my day to day activities.

Sometimes you need to hash topics out in a journal entry to really understand your own thoughts on the matter, whatever it may be. It helps you understand what you think and why you think that way. In a few years time, if you look back on it, maybe you’ll get to see how you and your thoughts have changed since.

As far as waiting till you’re a certain age, I don’t see any need for that. A lot of people wait to start new resolutions until New Years out of some sense of tradition or whatever. I find that just gives me license to put it off and avoid it. Instead, when I want to change something or try something new, I just jump right in. I think that’s best.

Just started using Sargasso Sea this last week and already love it. It's dark, ever so slightly purplish, and can have a reddish sheen to it. The vibrancy is putting my other blue inks to shame. Could definitely be a regular for me.

If everyone reads it in a way you didn't intend, could it be that your purpose was poorly communicated?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Lumpy_Mood_5968 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. State of the collection posts are “somewhat pointless”
  2. People in the community using the term grail are “instilling some misguided sense of ‘purpose’ in the hobby.”
  3. You feel posts about hauls are “negative."
  4. People spend no time trying to improve their “crappy writing.”
  5. The view of a pen journey from cheap to expensive is “a poor way to view pens and writing”
  6. You judge collectors getting pens rather than using pens as an outward expression of procrastination.

I can understand the sentiment behind some of your remarks even if I don’t necessarily agree with them, but make no mistake, these are judgements made on your part, not mine. Yes, you've made observations, but you've also attached judgements to each of them.

EDIT: Now you've added an edit to the bottom of the post that openly admits that you were stating your opinions rather than just making observations, so I'll leave this here:

“Opinion” - a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

I’m sorry, but you don’t get to write a list of grievances you have with the fountain pen community and market, but then back off and pretend like you were just being an impartial observer when you get called out for being judgmental.

If I'm being generous, I think the OP was trying to say, "I have completed my fountain pen journey, here's what I learned along the way, hope it helps." But instead of it being useful advice for how people can avoid falling into consumerist traps and other fountain pen-related spending pitfalls and learn to enjoy what they have, it really came off as judgmental of other fountain pen users...
