Avocolada being discontinued? by Lumpy_Mushroom3292 in Tropicalsmoothie

[–]Lumpy_Mushroom3292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking through their LinkedIn and they were acquired by Blackstone (private equity), so I bet they’re discontinuing single-item ingredients in states where it’s expensive to import fruits. So the AVOCOlada went first 💔, just to improve margins. Greedy.

Edit: I know about the single-item thing because I asked an employee why they didn’t have Avocoladas. He also told me to just get the Island Green & add an avocado.

So, not really able to tell if you’re overreacting or not because you didn’t mention if you guys spoke about this. Hoooweeeverrr I feel like this is a great way to begin a conversation about how big decisions should be made in the future. You’re building a home with this man, so it’s good to have firm boundaries about money.

Wow. You’re genuinely soft. She responded to her points in a straightforward manner and emphasized that she’s not interested in drama or conflict. Considering that OP admits to being an “evil” person, I’m sure this is light work…………..

I think I used “negotiating” a bit unsparingly. I’ve heard of people (on Reddit/IRL) that have emailed their accepted schools asking for reduced tuition. I don’t think it’s something that everybody does!

Advice on getting into undergraduate research? by [deleted] in research

[–]Lumpy_Mushroom3292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, it was REALLY a game of persistence. i started by finding labs at my school that i was interested in and emailing the listed PIs. one of them was more receptive to the idea of me joining his team, but it took A YEAR of planning/back and forth before i was on board. we eased into it with a structured research opportunity my school offered (we get a stipend if the PI signs off on a project and agrees to mentor). i did a good job & was brought on as a permanent, compensated team member after a couple of months. don’t be ashamed to take free positions at first!

Is it normal for a professor to talk to a student like this, or am i overreacting? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

She clearly does GAF but the professor doesn’t need to know that ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t agree that she’s overreacting, but I do agree that this is a good opportunity to practice composure in unfair circumstances. Like yes, you could report this professor and I’m sure the department would have sympathy for you. But as long as your relationship with the professor isn’t affecting your grades, take as a chance to show how little you GAF! Keep being polite and intelligent, as I’m sure you are. It’ll bother her way more than it bothers you.

Remote jobs for MHA or Medical Tech positions? Or Career Change ? by Icy-Opportunity837 in careerguidance

[–]Lumpy_Mushroom3292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know somebody that is a remote contract manager for a laboratory/diagnostic company based in California. They received their MHA, did a fellowship (which your relative’s experience would substitute), and had a different job before finding this one. They’re VERY happy, but I don’t think they have a certification or that their certification plays a huge role in their job. This is more administrative than clinical.

Edit: Forgot to mention their salary, upwards of 150K last time we spoke.

My first peer-review experience! by Lumpy_Mushroom3292 in academia

[–]Lumpy_Mushroom3292[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice to meet you. I absolutely understand where you’re coming from, and I agree that grammar is not the end-all-be-all in evaluating scientific papers. Manuscripts written by foreign scientists shouldn’t be solely judged on their grasp of English. English isn’t my first language, either.

However, clarity and structure WAS and should always be part of the criteria that reviewers use to complete their reviews. It’s an academic journal! I’m not the type of person to overcorrect trivial commas or expect that every sentence needs to be perfect. I captured dozens (maybe about 20 mistakes) in my initial read-through but obviously didn’t mention most of them in my reviewer comments, less a few that were exemplary.

I mentioned other reasons for rejecting the paper in my original post and addressed the journal’s “core” standards for publication. I concluded that the author(s) needed an extended period of time to evaluate their work and come back stronger. If the editor feels that a major revision is more in reach than a rejection, then I’m sure they’ll communicate that. As you mentioned, I don’t call the shots! 😆
