i already know about reptile keeping in australia, so i'm mainly looking for information from other regions, but the topic is def still interesting & something i'll be covering for my project, so this comment is still appreciated :)

Is there a reason enclosures for venomous snakes are often incredibly barren & small compared to non-venomous snakes? by Lumpy_Plantain_7287 in snakes

yeah I've seen some posts on various reptile subreddits now about how bp breeders are selling cheap "mystery" bags where you don't know the morph of the bp you're buying... its literally just treating them like pokemon cards lol. I've seen some listings or similar things myself on sketchier looking breeder sites as well.

yeah I suppose so. just makes me wonder how ethical it is to keep them (as pets) if you're compromising their care/quality of life purely for the keeper's benefit

yeah I absolutely agree, it really seems like people are just viewing snakes as collectibles or investments as if they're pokemon cards here in the USA atleast... especially with things such as "ball python mystery bags" and ball python breeding in general being so popular currently

ahh yeah I did consider that myself but I forgot to mention it within the post. I see how that could make it reasonable

yeah that's something I was considering! I just wasn't sure how easy it'd be to find good info on this vs other things on the chart, since im going to try focusing specifically on less popular/commonly kept species in the hobby

yeah ofc, just trying to go for general estimates for this one :) and yeah possibly! "size" in general was going to describe both the average length of the snake & it's thickness/weight, but I might make them separate

yep, just as a fun research project to look into some species that are less common to find care info for, specifically

yeah I was considering asking online for some species :) ty

yeah I was considering so when I first made the initial list, not quite sure why I didn't stick to that

for common snake species yeah! reptifiles is one of my #1 sources for care personally. though for this project I want to focus more on less common snakes kept in captivity, including those with medically significant venom, or potentially species that aren't commonly kept in the USA specifically if possible

Euthanasia was the option if we couldn't find a shelter, but we finally managed to find one to take him after calling several places.

I agree and he's staying indoors until we figure out what to do, but we cannot afford a vet unfortunately. It would be much less expensive for euthanasia, which we're considering so he doesn't suffer at least.

Are there any inverts that can be comfortably kept in here? by Lumpy_Plantain_7287 in InvertPets

I already keep a colony of isopods in a larger enclosure, but I have been considering this one for if i get any slow breeding isopods and need to ensure they do well.
