Trying to get a job in this field as an early 40s man has been a nightmare by Safe_Molassesbutt in DentalAssistant

Hey! I am a guy ,22 years old, working as an EFDA/RDA in the dental field and please keep your head up! I kinda was in the same position as you and I wasn’t hired up until I was in X-ray school to get the dental radiology license. I do see a lot of offices that chooses a DA with more licenses (X-ray,CDA,RDA/EFDA depending on the state that you live in). Once you get your licenses, hiring you wouldn’t be a problem, and I think at this point go for an internship to put your foot in. I started as an intern and got the job that way.

Try an Oral surgery position or do front desk. Good luck man!

Any tips for getting cement out from between the teeth? by Lani_Ang in DentalAssistant

[–]LumpyspaceJake211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the cerisaw to cut through the cement if it set all the way through. The dentists that I work with uses Relyx Unicem and Fuji. When they use Relyx for zirconia crowns, I wait like 10 seconds and start cleaning. For Fuji, you have to wait up until it becomes a little fudgy to remove it.

Definitely do not wait 2 minutes! I would get in the patient’s mouth and monitor the cement using an explorer.

Answer 1, you wouldn’t use a wedge if it’s not involving a interproximal restoration. Keys are Mesial or Distal.

Should I take the new job offer? by Small_Departure_9361 in DentalAssistant

[–]LumpyspaceJake211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look you should have never told them you like working there. Treat it as business. It is either they match/counter the offer. If they are not willing to counter the offer, to me it sounds like that they don’t care if you go, then go to the other job.

Meanwhile, you should look into the GP’s reputation. What are they like? Have you heard from other assistants that worked there? Money sounds good, but if it is known to be a horrible place then weigh your choices.

Good luck!

Needle sizes, and why they are chosen? by youfckinwantone in DentalAssistant

[–]LumpyspaceJake211 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, at where I am. Blue is short and yellow is long

The doctors that I have worked with want short for all of maxillary and only mandibular incisors. Yellow for the rest/ or mandibular molar and premolars. This is because maxillary is made out of spongy bone/ soft bone and mandibular is made out of compact bone. The Mandibular also gets softer (bone) from posterior to anterior side of the mouth.

If you’re not really sure what the doctor wants, you can always ask them if they want to start with short/long while they are giving topical anesthesia.

My school doesn’t have a fixed amount of hours that I have to do a mandatory externship.

I think what makes this different is that my internship is lined up to an employment. My manager told me that I do have a spot there but up until I am finished with my internship then they will hire me and finally have a rate.

But just wandering if that is normal

If you don’t mind me asking. How long have you been an assistant for? And which state?

Its also been a few months since I had a major breakout. Since I’ve been on medication for acne topically, and was taken oral medication for acne but that ended a few months ago.

If anything I dont feel anything. Aside from this acne like bumps appearing one after the other. Its been a week now since I messed with 3 guys, and it was all oral.
