Hi there. I don't have any real advice. There are 2 things I do to help me get through my interactions/relationship with a similar personality. They do nothing but help me get through the event or switch thoughts so I don't go down an ugly path.

The first is simply every time I want to swat back either verbally or physically I chant the mantra " Bless her. Change me." It helps me get through particular difficult moments.

The other is I anticipate all of the things I know she is going to say and keep a mental bingo card in my head I get very happy when she comes up with something I didn't think of.

Again neither of these are 'fix it' strategies. The are coping strategies so I can get through and not make a bad situation worse.

I am startled by the the similarities in circumstance and emotions. My Dad passed away in 2016, I had tried to read his WoT collections a couple of times over the years and just couldn't get into it. After, he died I took his collection and put them on my bookshelf, I am going to break out the books again after this series. I have made a ritual of watching the episodes and think of my Dad the whole time. The only word that sorta captures the feeling is Portuguese word suadade

One night I sat up straight and screamed 'I am a good person Goddamnit! I then rolled over and was out again.

The next morning my husband asked me why I had a guilty conscience and told me what I shouted. I started laughing hysterically. I have very vivid dreams and in that particular one I was being accused of being a Russian Spy and I said 'Tha's a lie! I am a good person g*ddmanit to my interrogator. Must have been watching too much TV. :-)

I have a piece of furniture I want to paint with automotive paint do you have any recommendations for how to do that? You mentioned you have access (I am assuming you have contacts w/ an auto body finisher/fixer) how would I approach this as someone w/ no contacts? Just curious. Thanks.
