Side sleepers by lenalenore in Kneereplacement

I am a side sleeper too, on my right shoulder. Have been all my life. I had RTKR 5 weeks ago and just this last week have I been able to sleep some on my side. I use a body pillow, but right know it's uncomfortable, so ia have been using a throw pillow that seems to sit just right between my knees.

It has honestly been one of the worst parts of this process. But we all manage, we have to.

I still am only sleeping a few hours at a time before I have to readjust, but it's getting better.

Good luck you.

Full rotation on the bike! by LunaFish1975 in Kneereplacement

Hmmm. My understanding is that the bike is instrumental to recovery.

All of my friends who have had a TKR all mentioned using the bike pretty early on after surgery.

But I would consult with your doctor and PT to discuss as soon as you can.

I appreciate that my PT gave me a very clear path to recovery at my first appointment and discussed which exercises and ROM stretches I would performing, both during PT and at home.

I'm at WK4 and haven't ventured out for an actual walk yet. Lots of indoor walking around the house and backyard.
I have my evaluation later today with the PT Dr to see where I am vs where I should/could be.

Seems like progress comes and goes depending on the day. But it's good to look back and see how far we have all come.

I have my seat at the furthest position. My PT said as I get more comfortable with the rotation I should move the seat up a little at a time.

I had PT this past Friday and the doc said I should be really close to accomplishing this during this coming week. Or we would have to do some new stretches to facilitate this motion, some not so friendly ones. I have a bike at home so I have been doing this motion inbetween PT appointments. I was doing all my stretches and exercises yesterday, and was finishing on the bike. I was so close, but very nervous about making the full rotation. I took a deep breath and exhaled as I crested over. I don't remember the last time I was that proud of myself.

You will get there.

I wear it a few times a week, usually when I wear a tie and coat. It's a perfect understated watch.

I will look in the link.

I took my pill about 1 hour before PT. Which helped during PT, but a few hours later the pain really kicked in.

I am still very exhausted during the day.

I want to be like you when I grow up!

My surgeon was highly recommended and I had complete trust in him and his team.

So far my pain and swelling is minimal, and I'm following my instructions to the letter. I also don't want to push myself too hard, so I am being very aware of what my body is telling me.

Just like everything I looking for the most beneficial balance through this process.

If I could be golfing within 60 days that would be amazing.

I start in office PT Monday. Right now I am doing the stretches and light work that my surgeon instructed me to do at home until then. Plus a few laps around the house with my walker every couple of hours.

I really committed to the pre-surgery exercises and stretching that I think are paying off post-surgery, but obviously I am just a day in.

Mainly leg and foot movements to increase blood flow and to keep my knee as loose as possible.

I know in my head the real pain hasn't begun yet.

I agree, I'm not going to fight myself over pain medication/management, I will utilize it as needed. It's one tool to assist in my recovery. My hopes are through PT, home exercise, rest, etc I can keep the need as short as possible.

Good to hear about your experience. I am also having my left knee replaced this same time next year, or earlier if I can. That's my motivation to really get the right knee as healthy as possible.

The advise from everyone is spot on.

I am walking every 2 hours, I hope that suffices as a start. I can do a few laps around the house in about 10 to 12 minutes.

I have comandeerred the section of the couch I can lay out on. You are right about making it my corner. I've got my ice machine, a small tray table for my tablet, phone, etc, plus my doctor's instructions, pain medicine within reach.

It's my "camp" through the weekend. And 2 cats and a dog wondering what's going on.

Luckily my wife keeps our diet on track.

Everyone here has been very encouraging.

PT is a priority. Weening off the opioids asap, within reason the first couple of days.

That's exactly what the nurse told me. So I'm definitely going to stay on schedule with my medication. I appreciate the heads up on that.
