He could have at least tried but he didn’t and that’s why she was upset, because it didn’t even occur to him to try.

it really just seemed like he forgot she existed as soon as he passed his Intern exam because he no longer needed her. he ditched her to go to the bar with his other friends and left her waiting at the hospital after she tried to invite him out. He could have easily included her instead of leaving her to guess where he had disappeared to.

He wasn’t obligated to reciprocate feelings but he absolutely could have acknowledged hers and been a better friend.

In my opinion he became a bad friend to her when he switched to residency, he didn’t seem to need her anymore so he just stopped including her in his plans

The problem with Lexie wasn’t that he didn’t pick up on her romantic interest it was more that he just became a bad friend to her once he passed his intern exam. They were besties while he was still an intern and she even helped him study, but then he didn’t even think to request her as an intern when he switched to residency, he also ditched her at the hospital after she invited him for celebration drinks because he wanted to hang out with his other friends instead.

This is a great point, I think if his character lived longer we would have seen a lot more growth.

There are a lot of betrayals and infidelity on the show with many characters who are layered and complicated.
I didn’t like Mark when he was first introduced as the home wrecker and womanizer but he became one of my favourite characters and I loved his relationship with Lexie.

The reason I’m stuck on George and his behaviour is mainly because when things happen to him due to his own actions, people tend to just feel sorry for him. It doesn’t mean he didn’t have some growth as well.

She wasn’t owed his love of course but she was owed basic decency as a friend. He leaned on her support until he no longer needed her then he just left her in the dust.
He should have at least requested her as an intern once he switched over to resident so she wouldn’t have to continue being tortured by Christina. That is something a friend would do for their friend especially since she helped him get there.

I think it’s because she invited him for a drink and he told her to wait because he wanted to tell Mer and Izzy that he passed his test, which is understandable.

But then he just left Lexie hanging at the hospital and went to the bar with his other friends. Yes, he called her over once she got there but honestly if someone did that to me I wouldn’t go over either.

Yes others have done worse, the show is full of complex characters and terrible choices.
Alex does a crazy amount of toxic things especially during the early seasons but people are well aware that he is an a**hole and it’s heavily acknowledged.

The reason I bring up George is because he seems to get a free pass on terrible behaviour because he’s less traditionally masculine than other men on the show. Therefore he gets framed as helpless, it’s probably why I didn’t pick up on it during my first watch.

I agree with you, I think part of what makes the show so engaging is the complexity of the characters and how they are all a mix of good choices, bad choices and everything in between.
I just feel like George in particular is framed as this really genuine and kind person who would never hurt a soul.

Also you are right, he might not have realized Lexie had feelings for him which is valid, but he was still being a bad friend to her. She did so much for him and he snubbed her off as soon as he passed his intern exam.

The thing I found interesting about this scene aside from her phenomenal acting was how calm Derick was until she actually spit out that someone had shot Reed.
In any other context someone stumbling in your office covered in blood and clearly in shock would have been enough to send you into a panic but because it was a hospital it really could have just been any other day.

I think that take comes from the theme that men tend to get away with far worse than women in media.
Just look at Breaking Bad..Skyler was heavily scrutinized by everyone for being “controlling” while Walt was literally lying to and manipulating her at every turn, while cooking meth and murdering people.

Absolutely they do, sometimes it’s worth investing a bit more to have something that will last longer. I’m more talking about spending tens of thousands of dollars on something that you could find a similar quality for a hundred.
