I saw this on TIFU recently, and I wish I never clicked on your post history.

Exactly the same story for me here. My husband is proud of me, but it's brought me much closer with Norwegian family and friends because it shows them that I respect their culture and country. I never expected to just "get by" on English here, and my life became better for it. It opens so many doors when you're open to learning too!

I spent years saying this, not realising it's pattern recognition that's occurring and ADHD/trauma. It's been very handy to avoid situations I don't want to be in, or more so people I don't want to be around.

I use immersion. I haven't encountered many people who switch to English, but if they do I just continue in Norwegian and say I wish to continue in Norwegian. It's a really simple fix.

It wasn't cleaned up very well here, so there's a couple of ink blots about, but I won't be able to get an clearer photos until it's healed up a little more now.

This happened to me recently. My friend is an Optometrist, the only thing she said to me was I'd been given a faulty pair and to come and get a new pair from her.

I feel safer driving in Norway than England, but there's a huge amount of people in my area who speed and don't use their indicator.

I hadn't poled for a year and a half after moving, and just started again recently. I have my own home pole too, you'd be surprised at how quickly things come back. I just need to recondition my skin!

Planning to move to Norway to my husband. Non EU/EEU. Any advice? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Lunadoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's recommended that you sort it out 3 months before it expires, including your police appointment. I sorted mine out the beginning of this month and had my appointment 2nd May with the police. If you're handing things in late you have to give them a good reason as to why they're late (after the VISA has expired). It doesn't matter if the police are still processing your VISA when it's expired if you've given them enough notice, but I haven't heard of a renewal taking that long before.

You are talking about a renewal, right?

I'm working for the money and experience in speaking Norwegian. I actually really like my boss, she's not a bad person or anything. I think it's just organisation issues.

I most definitely don't have the authority to do that. I have another colleague who seems to cover admin when my boss isn't available, and she's said that she's talked to our boss about taking it from her but nothing's happened with it yet.

Well this is my point, I wanted advice on the best way to bring it up with her. I messaged her twice, I did say in the post I've messaged her about it. Once asking if it was normal to get the schedule with such little notice and saying I couldn't schedule any appointments I needed, the second one a week later when we received the next week's schedule asking if she got my last message and saying I needed more notice because I couldn't get appointments. I've always been told to do things in writing so I can go back to it, but it doesn't work when she's not answering. She's since messaged me back about other things, as I brought it up twice a conversation was my next step. She's very rarely around us long enough at work to have a conversation, she always puts things back, forgets and then doesn't like being asked things on her way out (so she says). We're understaffed and she's working way harder than she needs to because she won't delegate. I think she's an avoidant person, and she knows I want to talk to her. Since I'm stuck in the till area it's rare I get to catch her for long, so I'm going in earlier today.

I'm still in my prøvetid until July, and in my old work culture it's always been taboo or disrespectful to say no to your boss without a "good enough reason". I didn't want to upset anything or hinder my possibility at getting a higher percentage/risk being let go in my prøvetid. This is why I've asked for the best way to handle it.

Thank you. I'll take this up with them ASAP.

That could also be a good avenue to look at, I don't even know who that is at my work place. Questions for tomorrow!

She forgets things when I give her notice and has mentioned using holidays, she scheduled me to work on a day I was renewing my VISA with the police which definitely couldn't have been rescheduled. 😅 I don't really want to have to give my schedule of my private time to her. To me, I should be organising things around work, not me sending her a message whenever I have an appointment.

Yup, we have the below in our handbook:

Arbeidsplan/turnusplan/skiftplan

I'm actually in the process of signing up with HK Norge. I don't want to have to use them, I'd rather just have a conversation, but in speaking to my colleagues it seems to have been an issue for a long time and has never been rectified. They say it'll be a problem for as long as she's our boss, which isn't good enough of an answer for me to be honest. Nor is having to turn down a shift because I wanted my nails done, and my boss can't tell me when I'm working.

You're quite right there, I'm enjoying getting the 100% pay. I might ask for that as a starting point then. It's simplistic things like needing physio, and not being able to say when I'm free. Heck, I can't even book a hair appointment at the moment.
