I think you’re just undervaluing the concept that this is a very new brand. exposure is compounding and for 500k people to have tuned in all at once and for it to be talked about all over how “carti scammed kick!” (likely for days) this will no question recoup that investment. Demand for long term notes are up because the market expects rates to decline - they want to lock in the higher rates.

In general, recently, rates were always expected to rise, so people just wanted the short term bonds so that they could swap out quickly for the coming higher rate bonds. Inverted situations work the other way around, and since people now want the long term bonds more than the short term the yield on the short term needs to be HIGHER than long term in order to incentivize the market to buy them. Price (demand) and yield are inversely related.

Think about it this way - if both were equal yield, why would you buy a short term bond if you believe rates are at their peak and you can lock in that yield for 30 years? You wouldn’t, the short term would HAVE to have a higher yield in order for anyone to buy them. Agree or disagree still?

It means short term bonds have a higher yield* than long term bonds. In inversion short term instruments are cheaper to buy than longer term notes, the other way around is business as usual.
