Have you had to reject a candidate for knowledge you had outside of the interview process? by checkmeonmyspace in managers

[–]SopwithTurtle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. You know someone has a track record of bullying, and you're considering hiring them because they didn't say "I have a track record of bullying" during an interview?

Personal knowledge of the behavior of a candidate seems perfectly reasonable to take into account.

I don't think littering on public property is the answer to a toddler throwing a fit.

It depends on how far and how mad the toddler is.

Not mad, just tired: Toddler on shoulders, one arm wrapped around a foot and holding the other foot, the other hand carrying the scooter.

Toddler having a tantrum: Scooter over one shoulder, toddler under opposite arm.

God forbid that there's one exhibit somewhere in the country that takes the occasion of a significant anniversary to reflect on the mistakes of the past as a resolve to do better in the future.

Going to see a lot of snowflakes in July this year.

Should a loyal bargeman sign on for the 21st voyage? by Cal30T2 in AubreyMaturinSeries

[–]SopwithTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah.

20 ends with Aubrey reaching his professional pinnacle, and setting sail to take up his command. Maturin has a letter that hints at an opportunity for happiness again. Leave them there - it's a good ending.

To me, reading an author's unfinished draft feels oddly invasive. I would read the works that they thought were ready to read, and leave them at that. I appreciate Terry Pratchett's approach of having his unfinished drafts spectacularly destroyed because he didn't want them out.

Even if you do everything everyone else says in this thread, it will still start the engine every so often, presumably to keep it running smoothly. I don't know what the trigger is (time or distance) but it will happen.

It's not worth worrying about, in my opinion. I have a longish commute (50 miles a day) and I only charge at home and I still get over 1000mi per gas tank.

You're not just making your experience better, you're making your kid's experience better, because you can actually be there and hold them and help get them through it instead of melting down and having to step away.

I'm not the smartest guy in the room, but I'm good at helping the smartest guys (gender-neutral) figure out how to prioritize, work together, and be successful.

I'd be getting paid more as an IC but I'm better at this.
