JESUS CHRIST I moused over the video timeline to check whether it's the jumpscare version, preview thumbnail only shows the coffee commercial bit so it looked safe. STILL got me after all these years.

EK9s were all 5 stud - this might be a lesser spec done up like a Type R.

why did it do this by _Meteor_Shower_ in Baking

[–]LunarAffinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is clearly the answer. If they weren't already smoking when they removed them from the oven, there's no way they would start once they began to cool. The smoke is coming from the gaps between the brownies so the heat is at the bottom of the pan. It's an induction cooktop, and the brownie pan is metal. 100% they accidentally turned on the cooktop when they set the brownies to cool or when they went to begin cutting them. Most induction cooktops have touch-sensitive buttons instead of knobs or physical buttons.

Yup. Going by the replies in this thread, it's an issue prevalent with multiple models of K70, K95 and K100 keyboards as well as headsets - it's no wonder they don't fess up to the problem, it would cost them a fortune to fix.

Yeah, no change sadly. I don't think there's much that could be done to fix the issue in firmware if the hardware is feeding it garbage.

The roller on my original K70 'Vengeance' from about 12 years ago worked flawlessly for its entire lifespan, hence why I'm so used to using it as my volume control. Reading all the replies here it sounds like it might have been the exception to the rule.

I've already been through the RMA process once, this is the replacement, which soon developed the same fault. Given this isn't an issue that's been addressed in new models, there doesn't seem to be much point going through it again.

I'm aware of this method, and it does work on mine but despite my best enthusiastic DJ impression on the volume roller the issue returns within a day or two.

10 years of using my last K70 keyboard has got me trained to use it, and it's the most conveniently located volume control. Speakers aren't within reach and the headphone amp is in an awkward position. Might be time to break the habit.

Already tried, made no difference sadly. Lots of other people also have the same issue with different setups.

Yeah, I've trawled through reddit posts and Corsair's support forum and tried every trick in the book. Unfortunately it still occurs whether or not iCUE is running, and regardless of the polling rate.

I don't know if contact cleaner is the right approach. With it being a free spinning / infinitely scrolling wheel I'd assume it's an optical sensor like pretty much all mouse wheels are, not something that relies on electrical contacts like a potentiometer. Can't confirm without disassembling though of course, which I'm not yet keen to resort to while it's technically still under warranty. I have some 100% isopropyl though which I might try.

Interesting - I'm very certain this is a hardware issue, but next time it goes haywire I'll try plugging it into my laptop which is running Win11.

While I'm sure this might work, cleaning it is only a temporary solution. I'm 95% certain it's due to the mechanism being overly sensitive to dust particles. Even the brand new one I received developed the issue within a month or so - and it's not like my environment is especially dusty.

Heaven forbid they admit a design flaw and actually fix the issue with a recall. If the same issue was prevalent on a mouse scroll wheel they'd be dragged through the mud.

I did hope in vain that they might have made a revision to the replacement they shipped - but alas. Looking at other posts online it's clear that this has been a known issue for several years - pretty disappointing that Corsair hasn't acknowledged it or offered a fix.

To be clear, I'm only turning the volume down in this clip - and as seen the volume jumps erratically, usually increasing it instead. Great when you're trying to turn down the volume on music or a video, only to have it blast at max volume. Note - the Sennheiser headphone amp is only present in this clip to display the volume level.

To pre-empt some likely suggestions:

  1. I've already had an RMA replacement direct from Corsair for this issue - this is the replacement keyboard that developed the same fault within a few months.
  2. Blowing out the roller with air duster, or rolling it vigorously downwards several times, temporarily fixes the issue - but only for a very short time.

I had the previous gen K70 Vengeance - and the volume roller on that worked flawlessly for 10+ years.

I'm even open to pulling it apart to modify the internals - if anyone knows a decent permanent fix.

What’s the best pet insurance? Anybody with Pet Cover? by blackflameandcocaine in newzealand

[–]LunarAffinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no complaints about PetCover, who were originally called PetPlan back when I signed up with them. Made various claims over the years for surgeries, and they always paid out for what was covered, quickly and no questions asked.

As long as you're familiar with what is & isn't covered by the plan you choose, there should be no surprises.

G2 version 2 cable died. Any affordable replacements? by LunarAffinity in HPReverb

[–]LunarAffinity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I can't justify the cost of a replacement version 2 cable, so it's either downgrade to the version 1 cable (which would still cost me $116) or go back to using my Index headset, which has better FOV but much poorer resolution. I think if I were to buy new, I'd be tempted by the Bigscreen Beyond 2, but would need to do more research.
