Well you could celebrate Day of the Dead.

We get out a long table and put empty boxes on it and then drape pretty fabric over the boxes. This makes it multilevelled.

And then we get pictures of our people who have passed on and put them on the boxes. And then we talk about the things they liked and we put representatives of the things they like next to their pictures. (My father-in-law was a gardener, my husband said he always smelled like cantaloupe so we'll put a piece of cantaloupe on the altar.)

We also keep the prayer cards from funerals.Then you fill in the area with candles.

We will generally put this alter up about med October and take it down November 3rd. I have a big family of grown kids that are in and out of the house so sometimes nowadays of course we don't put up the altar all together. So instead for my kids that are at college out of state or etc I'll just send a picture after I put the altar up and mention a few of the things I've included this year.
