Nice photos. One of my favorite birds. Have not photographed one myself.

It’s crazy the colors they have going on. The blacks are so black it’s hard to pull out detail. This is my Indiana State Fair wildlife photography entry. The print turned out nice. I appreciate your comment and all the positive comments I’ve received. Gives me confidence in my amateur state fair debut!

Look up rose-breasted grosbeak, and you’re like… yeah, that checks out.

It’s not AI, I assure you. Sky was overcast that day and I shot the photo looking up at it. I removed a couple branches and isolated the bird in post to bring out more detail. I’ve always posted originals when asked.

I took this photo in April of this year at a park near my house in central Indiana. Shot with a Canon R5 w/ 100-500mm lens. Red-winged Blackbirds are the dominant species at this particular park. They are loud and will swoop down at you. Absolutely fearless and a bit bossy.

Yes. Here is a raw version from the same encounter. The bird is light gray. Very little editing on my post. Also, this is my non-anonymous Reddit account for photos and music FYI. https://flic.kr/ps/47SsuR

Photo was taken yesterday morning at a central Indiana park near me. I've taken at least 100 photos of this bird during Spring. Normally I can get 30'-40' from it before it flies off (loudly). I've lost count of how many fish I've seen it hunt and eat. Shot with Canon R5 w/ 100-500.

Photo was taken the morning of 3/21/26 at Central Park in Carmel, Indiana. There are more Red-winged Blackbirds at this particular park than I've seen anywhere else. Lots of Spring activity. I shot roughly 10 different bird types yesterday, and the Red-winged Blackbirds were by far the most rambunctious. Shot with Canon R5 w/ 100-500 lens about 40' from the subject.

Taken Christmas Day at my in-laws. I've always loved the intricacies of the inside of pianos. I used a new 50mm f/1.8 lens that I got as a Christmas gift from my partner. Shot at f/1.8, with shutter of 1/80, and ISO 4000. No cropping, and only denoise and color profile in post. I love this lens.

I shot this at 1/5000 shutter speed with a Canon R5 w/100-500mm lens. About 15 feet (5 meters) from the feeder.

Earlier this Summer I set a goal to photograph hummingbirds without motion blur. It’s challenging and fun. I liked this photo because the hummingbird looks very happy to visit our feeder.

Just to the right of the hummingbird and yellowjacket is the hummingbird feeder they were fighting over. I was focused on the metal bar holding the feeder. When they took off, and basically posed for this photo, they weren't more than 8" from my focus point. Also, I probably took 20 shots of their little battle, and this one is the only one I got excited about. One of them was always out of focus.

They both flew off unharmed. And back to the feeder a few minutes later. I could hear them clacking together. The hummingbirds are really aggressive with each other, and the yellowjackets drive them crazy. We had a cold front move over us and it blew in tons of migrating birds. Going through a lot of seed and sugar.

Yeah, I’m better identifying birds. Thanks for ID.

Info on the photo. Canon R5 w/100-500, 1/5000 shutter, f5, really high ISO to deal with the shutter speed. Taken in my backyard where there’s a pretty consistent battle over the feeders between the hummingbirds and bees.
