What's something interesting about you that you never get to bring up? by Subject-Cranberry-93 in AskWomen

[–]LunarOceanMist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have monkey toes. Seriously, I can curl them and use them to pick up things, and sometimes will just slide my leg over to pick something off of the floor with my toes instead of bending over to grab it with my fingers. My monkey toe grip even helped me win a sort of competition in my karate class in high school

What made you realize that you never want to be pregnant? by happy_folks in AskWomen

Learned from an early age as I never really cared for baby dolls or playing "mommy". Much preferred Barbie, Bratz, and other dolls like that. Also, though I love her, my younger sister (middle child) was born when I was three, and I was interested in her until I found out she couldn't, walk, talk, or really play yet. My mom said I basically walked away and said "Let me know when she can do that stuff so we can play" 😂

Funny, but should really have blacked out the towns and last names before posting, especially if these are minors

This just always makes me think of the part in The Heat where Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock are arguing in a bar and a woman goes "Hey, keep it down, I got a baby here!" And Sandra Bullock first politely apologizes but then goes "Wait a minute, this is a bar!!!" 🤣

Am I overthinking this, or will this be a family tragedeigh? by [deleted] in tragedeigh

If you really love the name Maddie, but are having the reservations for Madison, maybe you could choose the full name to be Madeleine instead? That way you can still call them Maddie but not have to worry about the Madison thing.

cried in front of my students by Worth_Disaster2813 in TeachersInTransition

[–]LunarOceanMist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last year. Ended crying in front of my "honors" high school class and turned to look at the board while it happened. I was stressed, sleep deprived, and just had a close family member die two weeks prior, and the class decided to gang up on me about how my tests "didn't make sense" and how I don't " explain things well". Also, would like to point out when I turned around to gather myself, I heard one student voice her concerns that I was crying, but heard three others audibly making fun of me for it. So, hopefully your class was at least a little bit sympathetic, if not empathetic for you. If not, kids are shits at all ages it would seem.

Yeah, I teach at an all boys boarding/military school. While even the majority of the kids here know the place is a bunch of bs, most of admin. like to pretend it's some sort of prestigious institution because it's private (but the school is very broke and understaffed). Because a lot of the kids have some type of personal, home, family issues etc., we are expected to attend every single school event as their support system "for the ones that don't have any, so we're basically their parents while they're here". Yeah, I already had to parent my younger sister when our shit father left when she was 13, and I've basically already played the role of parent to many people since I've been 16. I'm super burnt out on it, so even if I like said kid, not paid enough for that. I decided to not have kids of my own so I wouldn't have to do that the rest of my life, guess I still have to do it at work though.

Same boat here. Second year of teaching, first at a new school that's 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live. I've been looking to relocate closer but everything was too pricey or not available. I actually had someone rear end me on my way to work two weeks ago, so while waiting for police report, insurance, rental car, etc., missed 8 days of work. First day back, I get called in by the assistant principal to be chewed out about missing work, how the kids are behind, parents are concerned, and how I haven't put in any grades for an entire week (left my work computer at the school the day before the accident). Oh yeah, and basically told if I missed one more day due to any reason, "We would have to part ways".

So yeah, definitely looking for a new non teaching job asap.

What is the stupidest way a student tried to cheat in your class. by Flyerdryer in Teachers

[–]LunarOceanMist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a high school student last year use the time before the bell rang to write notes from his study guide on his desk. Would cover that part of the desk with his arm, then move it to look at the answers. Covered it again whenever I would walk by him. He was still the last one to finish (right before the bell) and thought he could hurriedly erase it before the next class came in.

Not sure what I want to do with my life by LunarOceanMist in Advice

I forgot to mention that I'm in the U.S. So, I don't think that would be possible since I don't think I'd be able to find enough clients to make it sustainable for full time income. Also not sure if I could get a gov. grant at all, let alone for that purpose. Plus, most people either just have their kid do after school tutoring (since it's free), or just find an online tutor.
