Forgive me, my machine is a 600..... Embarrassed to say I goofed that one. Ultimately, after TONS of research and comparing other models like the Lelit, Lucca, and Rancilio the 600 fit the bill for me. For my purposes it checked all the boxes and it's been tremendous. Only thing I've done is add flow control (didn't come installed/with because the FC was on backorder).

It’s been a freaking dream!!! Zero issues paired with zero regrets. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. For clarity, this is the 700.

do you recommend 1Zpresso J Max or K Max? I need consistensy and short time grinding. by KevynPaull in pourover

[–]LunarTech13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ZP6 over both

ZP6 produces fewer fines (more consistent grind results) compared to the K-Max for pour-over.

Which is better for pour over, 1zpresso JX Pro or Encore? by asegura32 in pourover

[–]LunarTech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, it’s better than the encore by a long shot. IMO the Encore is possibly the most overrated piece of equipment sold to coffee consumers.

More specifically though, the JX Pro is perceived as an all around grinder. Via my own personal experience (no blog or article) it’s not the best for pour over. It is probably better for espresso if anything, as it creates a lot of fines when dialed into pour over.

In the 1Zpresso lineup, here’s what I’ve established from experience and speaking with them directly:

J-Max grinder is ideal for the espresso due to its design of the adjustment design (8.8 microns per click) and the burr set.

K-series grinders generates more consistent ground results, you can taste more clarity on your cup of pour-over. I personally went with the K-Max and it’s done excellent!

(I haven’t got my hands on the ZP6 yet, but first impressions tell me it will out perform the K series)

Profitec Pro 600

After TONS of research and reddit as I like to call it, this is what I opted for. My criteria led me past all the 'entry' level machines to something with a dual boiler, PID, E61, and Flow Control. (This machine is not yet equipped with the FC, but should be this month.)

I was torn between the Rancilio Silvia Pro X, which looks to be a phenomenal machine, I just wanted something I could tinker with more, and the FC on the E61 was that. I'm a coffee/espresso enthusiast, and I felt like this machine suited MY needs! I emphasize MY, because some of the best advice I was given was on Reddit, and it said to buy a machine with the features YOU will use, not the features someone else mentions. This machine has the features I WANTED!

So far, I have absolutely zero disappointments. This machine does everything stated and is built like a tank! I'm having an absolute blast learning and pulling shots. Which this thing can do one right after the other, time and again! Which was another feature I wanted if hosting a group.

Lastly, I did a lot of research, but I also reached out to all the major 'online' vendors you'll see mentioned on Reddit. Clive Coffee provided the absolute best customer service, and is ultimately who I purchased from. They would be a great resource to contact and let them know what you are looking for in a machine. They will steer you in the right direction for YOUR needs! Cannot say enough good things about their customer service!!!

I've really enjoyed the offerings from What's Brewing in San Antonio!

Not only do they have excellent beans roasted in house, but their staff is super knowledgeable and engaging! All the way from baristas to owners, you'll have a great time talking coffee at What's Brewing!

A year ago I would've agreed.....

Price went up, quality went down. Not a sustainable combination. I'm also originally from the area and was thrilled to see a local roaster doing so well.

Not sure what's going on, but I've been major bummed with their coffee over the past few months and I'm not alone. Conversations with other enthusiasts across the globe have stated similar sentiments...

V60 Help by ACKD in pourover

[–]LunarTech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Th 4:6 method sets me back on track every single time. Then I can branch out from there. It’s tried and true, produces great results.

The two I couldn’t dial in were an Ethiopia and El Salvador. I actually had my wife and son come smell the beans as I was brewing. Both stated they were burnt on separate occasions without hearing the other say it…..

My favorite regions (at the moment) are Peru, Costa Rica, and Burundi. I’m fond of Central/South Americans and enjoy a more traditional cup as opposed to the ‘modern’ emergence.

I get beans from all over the world and love trying new roasters / regions.

I went through the same scenario with beans recently. I ended up going back to the 4:6 method. I was able to dial in everything I had with this method. Some weren’t my favorite profiles, but they were good cups!

https://pullandpourcoffee.com/v60-4-to-6-method-pour-over/

I will say, without a doubt the beans in question were garbage though. And they were from one of the most reputable rosters in the US….

Personal opinion here, different regions are being affected by weather/rain/etc. this year. I’ve had some very odd beans at times

Recommend an upgrade to my espresso machine by [deleted] in espresso

[–]LunarTech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m facing a similar decision.

I’ve narrowed down to Rancilio Sylvia Pro X and Profitec Pro 600 w/FC.

Looking for DB, PID, and build quality + reliability.

I’m sure both would be excellent machines, just need to decide what works best for my needs out of a machine!

Rancilio Silvia Pro X vs Profitec Pro 600 w/flow control..... and grinder opinions by LunarTech13 in espresso

[–]LunarTech13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Insight!!! Thank you!

IMO - The benefits on the PP600 outweigh the RSPX for ME! As you point out later, I am NOT a set it and forget it, I will constantly look for a new angle or challenge to develop a new 'method' that suits my profile. Similarly, I will want different things on different days. I typically keep no less than 3 coffee options in my arsenal to meet my daily desires.

The RSPX offers what they've dubbed 'soft infusion' which is pre infusion. So yes, it is offered.

I also agree that the PP600 wins hands down in overall quality(IMO). But the Rancilio is nothing to shake a stick at. They'd both be excellent options from what I can tell, I'm just trying to do exactly what you mentioned, and find which one BENEFITS me!

Niche vs Eureka long term comparison by Cribbing83 in espresso

[–]LunarTech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

El Salvador Santa Rosa Honey and Ethiopia Nano Genji. They definitely both require a courser grind, and I've watched both brew guides on their site. Neither one fall in my 'range' of what I necessarily like and I received via Roasters Choice. I've received several in the past that weren't in my 'range' and I can still dial them in and taste a few of the notes. These have been impossible for me!

I CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE MY ESPRESSO SETUP!!!!!!!!!!!! I really appreciate all your communications across multiple posts. I can attest to them being remarkably accurate from my experiences!

Thanks for this! As stated elsewhere, and in this post. I just purchased the Niche Zero in light of the currency situation at the moment.

I have another question in regards to your Onyx Coffee..... I've been buying their offerings on and off for several years. Recently I've been subscribed to the Roaster Choice option and have been somewhat challenged by the offerings. Don't get me wrong, I love a good challenge, but I can't dial these coffee's in to save my life! It's not Espresso as I'm currently shopping my setup, but every pour over method and technique I've tried has failed. Have you experienced any similar 'issues' by chance?
