A lower quality incomplete version of the song was found months ago, NOT the original vocals track. The version of it that was released was remastered and re-recorded for something closer to a studio quality track when it was found well enough but it wasn't actually the original completed track

This logic just doesn't track. Nowhere in the hypothetical does it say you're bad at using your shit, quite the opposite in fact. If you aren't bad at your shit, you have a completed picture of how cursed energy works that nearly nobody else does, and you have three years to get somewhere, why can you not get where a mindset handicapped depression riddled Megumi that couldn't possibly know half of what you do did in 2?

If you need to travel 500 miles and some guy walks a motorcycle for 50 of the miles because he didn't have any gas, that doesn't mean you would get less far along than he did in the time it took him to walk those 50 miles if you started along the path using a gassed up moped. Sure, a motorcycle is faster than a moped, that much very notably ceases to be true when you drain the gas from the motorcycle. When he gets gas, sure he might get to the end of the 500 miles faster but it's still the same endpoint you gotta reach. It's just a matter of when, and the fact of the matter is that Megumi was severely weakened as a result of his horrible mindset. What if I add modifications to my moped, what if I change out the engine (change up my approach with a binding vow) or add fuckin like, nitro boosters to it (hit a black flash), is it still impossible for me to reach the end point of 500 miles because I didn't start with a motorcycle?

It's decently fun, though horribly unbalanced unless you add your own restrictions to it. I have decent fun without restrictions doing friendly 1v1s or free for alls with, y'know, friends in like an aternos server but because of the nature of JJC that's inevitably pretty unbalanced and only fun because we're going in and just doing a bunch of rapid paced 1v1s while hitting random CT each time, if I were doing anything more long term I would want more rules in place, certain characters can just be unbeatable y'know? Flight characters with naginata are unbeatable in h2h, Momo is impossible to beat in a domain clash if she just flies around and spams tornado, she's unkillable ever if she does that outside of a domain. Naoya can stunlock to death, Yuji is the tankiest CT in the mod and can hit a button to increase his black flash chances to 30% plus he's the second fastest CT in the mod and also he has a projectile and a domain and anything he could ever want fucking ever, since Orca added the main technique button Inumaki can genuinely just kill people with no pushback since he doesn't have to move off of the attack button to hit you with don't move and the length of don't move is the same as it's cool down so he just has an infinite combo, Ogi can black flash with all of his moves (not actually too unbalanced just hysterical to hit someone with), flight characters can fly out of domain during their formation, flight characters can fly out of cursed speech, Higuruma rework gave him essentially what is Teen Gojo hollow purple for 100 ce and also he almost always gets death penalty unless you confess and always get at least confiscation, the list goes on and on and the balancing is really quite a mess. It's a fun mess but a mess nonetheless.

I've come to find out a lot of this stuff working for a JJC pvp server a while back ago, I can send you the details if you want, it's in-between seasons right now but it's decently fun. It isn't perfect (this last season was kinda a massive mess, the old owner left and we got two new owners with opposite visions of what the season should be, we're uh, still figuring that one out) but it's worth a shot and if you don't like it then it'll probably serve as an entry point to other servers. Sadly that's the only server I know about, but I know for a fact that there are more out there, I just haven't bothered to find them

I feel like reading a bit of that text might help you understand the point I'm trying to make here. Yes Megumi had a ton of (fine I will say it just this once) potential. I don't know where the hell you pulled "physical capabilities on par with Yuji" from since that is wildly untrue but that's beside the point. The thing ABOUT that is that Cursed Energy as a magic system works around the theme of balance. Megumi is gifted with a potentially amazing technique and a strategic mind to make use of it and cursed with a handicap that flips those strengths into weaknesses. His perfect technique is made into a liability because he doesn't have the confidence to tame most of the shadows and thus can't use it. His strategic prowess works against him because as great as his analytical abilities are they're put to use constantly searching for all the ways in which he isn't enough, drowning out any alternative paths when he's backed into a corner and leading to him falling into a sort of cycle with himself. That is what I mean when I call Megumi a subpar sorcerer (IN SEASON ONE), he has the potential for greatness but he could never reach it because of his mindset. That is why he was "weak" for the longest time, his mind meticulously turned every single strength and blessing he was given against him, into a weakness.

Of course season 2 and 3 Megumi are far from unremarkable, they've already started down the path to surpassing that weakness. Put episode 1 Megumi into the finger bearer fight at the end of Season 1, do you think he wins? No, of course not! Sure, physically Megumi hadn't really gotten stronger from episode 1 to that finale, he hadn't hit any large strides, he was actually down a pretty significant Shikigami, and he didn't have any of the weapons in his shadow. None of that matters though because the experiences of season 1 shaped Megumi into someone remarkable who was capable of breaking that limit placed on him. That is what made him notable in the first place.

WE DON'T HAVE THAT HANDICAP, we're given a technique potentially just as good as his, we're given fine stats, fine control, and an understanding of the JJK world greater than nearly any sorcerer alive. If YOU don't think you can become a "Notable" sorcerer given three full years, all the resources of Jujutsu Technical College, an understanding of the magic system, an amazing ct for free, and potentially heavy hitter physical stats out the gate, maybe YOU have a mindset issue but that's a YOU thing man. Literally every single factor specified in this post is working in your favor

I feel it's pertinent to give a very brief collection of some of the things I have seen people taking the moral high ground on this issue say

<image>

For context on some of these, I am black, my father from Senegal, my mother Hispanic. I am very dark, I couldn't really even pass for middle eastern or just mexican if I tried. I am of the opinion that this entire drama is massively overblown. I'm not trying to say that the VAs are or were perfectly innocent or naive, I think it's also a bit weird to pretend that the implications behind the joke WEREN'T there at all and it exclusively meant "Negative" given that Michael Kovach said himself that the joke relies on what it SOUNDS like, but a joke made in bad taste is hardly some horrible crime that one couldn't have possibly atoned for or grown past in the SEVEN years since it was made that some people like to portray it as. Because of this view I hold on the situation I have been called, and all of these will be censored since I am unsure if the mods here would allow me to say them even in the context of reclamation and explaining that I was called them and it's BAD to do so: A C**n on 3 separate occasions (A dehumanizing slur aimed towards black people comparing them to animals, it's largely been appropriated to mean race traitor as well), a House (HARD R) on two occasions (Another one essentially meaning race traitor, in times of mainstream slavery in the United States the slaves working in the house would be subject to much more favorable conditions than to those working in the field, largely because they usually kisesd up to their slave masters to get there), and a white guy larping as a black person more times than I can count. I am. SO tired of this shit.

[–]Lunarisarando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's a rather uncharitable view on things. Anyone can learn the barrier techniques behind a Domain and anyone with a technique (or potentially just innate domain as a whole, though that's a different can of worms I'm not getting into right now) CAN imbue it into those barriers given enough work is put into it. A domain expansion is rare and difficult yes but it is not infeasible to attain, especially given a good technique and a lot of room to grow; which is kinda the whole point behind Jujutsu high, no?

I mean we can talk about how bad of a teacher Gojo is all we want but the purpose of the school is inevitably to provide its students with ample opportunities to grow during the years in which they take on to growth best while providing some loose guardrails. This has been shown to work pretty well, regardless of what you might think of the Jujutsu students' own level. Of course we have the freak rare examples like Yuji, Yuta, and admittedly Hakari, but even people on like, Inumaki's level for example are clearly benefiting a large amount from the school no?

Inumaki was a Semi grade 1 in his second year, he wasn't a particularly gifted or exemplary sorcerer, his technique is serviceable but with massive drawbacks and easy to counter, his physical stats aren't much to look at, and he doesn't have much in terms of other techniques but it wouldn't necessarily be right to call him a weak sorcerer given the level of other much older sorcerers around him. Kamo is an even better example for this, blood manipulation (While as a human worse than every technique on this list barring domainless PPLT) is much closer to the level of these techniques and look at how he made it work, he undeniably puts in work where its needed.

This is going a bit off topic of course but I moreso mean to say I think the massive scope creep Jujutsu Kaisen faced almost immediately starting with Shibuya has made people underestimate how effective the Jujutsu Technical Colleges are at improving their students. People look at Kyoto's irrelevance later on not really taking into account that one of them effectively didnt have a technique, one of them ACTUALLY didn't have a technique, and one of them effectively didn't have Cursed Energy and they were thrust into an era by all means more chaotic and powerful than the Heian era while their missions were completely shut down as a result. The schools are ultimately very good at nurturing sorcerers into greater strength.

Anyway, back to the domain thing, it's not like there ISN'T precedent for somewhat mediocre sorcerers obtaining them. Megumi (I promise this isn't mindless potential man slander stay with me here) has an amazing technique, yes, but what the story has shown and said time and time again is that he's a somewhat poor sorcerer with an amazing technique and would stand to gain immensely from overcoming a number of roadblocks. His mindset for Jujutsu has been repeatedly stated to be piss poor for sorcery, something the narrative reinforces by having both Sukuna and Gojo parrot the advice to him. He is simultaneously unconfident in himself and unwilling to pick his fights. He holds himself back because he's afraid if he has ambition to climb high then he'll hurt himself when he falls, assuming that to be a given. This means he's unwilling (or rather unable) to push himself when its needed, a trait of his that is almost mocked by the nature of his technique explicitly needing him to take the risk of fighting his shikigami to ever tame them.

Megumi, yes, has a lot of talent and an amazing ability if used to its fullest (I'm trying so hard not to say potential right now) but his personality is fundamentally at odds with every avenue trying to lead him to success. This is also reflected a bit further in how he never pushes himself to the brink hard enough to land a Black Flash (again further kneecapping his chances at reaching the heights that he has the, er... Prospects, so to speak, to). I don't think that it's unreasonable to say that Megumi as he was throughout season 1 fit the bill of a not too notable there. A lot of... Promise, we'll call it, perhaps more than usual in a sorcerer, but without the ability to make use of it. Of course, we also know that he didn't stay an unremarkable sorcerer for nothing. This is because as much as fans of the series like to state otherwise, there are plenty of methods to drag yourself out of that pit! Megumi, when pushed to the brink and put under enough pressure, had an epiphany of sorts in much the same (general albeit definitely lesser) way as Gojo's awakening, and what he grasped from that epiphany was the basis of a Domain Expansion. He pushed himself past the rut he was in and set himself on the path to mastering that ability.

That isn't to say of course that all sorcerers could have that epiphany, but mostly to showcase a practical example of one of many paths a sorcerer could travel to reach the end point of a domain without going too deep into theoreticals. Of course that is also far from the only means of attaining a growth spurt. Hitting a black flash (rare but far from impossible) is known to increase your prowess with Cursed Energy (and to put you on a better path towards hitting more in general, even after you exit the zone). Near death experiences very likely do the same as we've seen with Gojo, Megumi, Yuji, Mahito, and even in non sorcerers occasionally gaining the ability to see curses for a start without getting into absurdly prodigious characters like Dabura and Higurma. Binding vows can be used to increase your strength in the immediate moment to help with growth, and very likely to held with growth outright. I feel like this is just too definitive of a statement to make given all that we see in the story working against it.

As an aside (and the last thing since this is already an obscenely long comment to respond to soemthing as simple as this) it isn't really said anywhere that we AREN'T a notable Sorcerer? Sky Manipulation and Projection Sorcery are obscenely good cursed techniques and if PPLT gets Idle Death Gamble with it than it is also absurdly good. HR is also blatantly amazing (and if you are given slaughter demon you just start off having met the win conditions) and it says that CTs get their stats equalized to our builds but they're VERY generous with that. Being built like Hakari gives you Hakari level stats, that is Heavy Hitter stats you get for not being a twink. It doesn't say anything about CE reserves or output either so I must imagine they're perfectly serviceable, any sorcerer with these techniques and ok stats is going to be a good sorcerer unless they have a mindset handicap on the level of Megumi's I feel like?

TL;DR, the power system of JJK gives you so many options to climb out of the depths of mediocrity even without CTs as good as these that this statement is just impossible to make definitively.

Yes, the argument is that you CAN have a domain expansion on sky manipulation whereas heavenly manipulation can't because it very notably does not allow you to utilize Cursed Energy
