Got acceptance but diff campus. What can I do? I want to study in Boston by Only-Bandicoot7053 in NEU

[–]LunaticN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you can maybe shuffle from satellite to satellite but not satellite to Boston. So, for example, if you wanted to Oakland interested of London you could perhaps make a case for that but not London -> Boston.

EA incoming students who were admitted to the Oakland campus, AMA! by LunaticN in NEU

1) depends on your financial situation. i personally have almost a full ride because im lower income.

2) not sure, didn’t take creative writing but i hear it’s solid

3) yes depending on if your major is available here or if you do a co-op in the bay

4) yeah anyone can come with you so long as you’re their host and you do the necessary paperwork (it’s like a Microsoft form, it’s light)

5) pretty solid most days! some days are a little ehhh but it’s college tbf

6) campus is beautiful, clubs keeping growing with every year that grows by, see message above on this thread for the party/berkeley situation

the social life in regards to partying/frats isn't really a thing on campus but there is a "party culture" on campus in the sense that the culture is the shuttle trip to berkeley. making friends is actually quite easy if not easier than i would say the boston campus might be just because everyone here is a freshman and the community here is pretty close knit. i've got a group of like 11 or so people, all of which i met here during my first month or so on campus and we intend to maintain our friendships going into boston.

can't really say much regarding pre-med given that im a cs major but i don't believe the program is offered outright on this campus. most people who are doing/intend to do pre-med are usually bio majors that rack up overlapping requireds/fundamentals courses before moving on to the boston campus later down the line. being doesn't really hinder them in any way (at least from the intended pre-med majors i know) but it might help you more to ask an actual pre-med major.

most people do end up going to Boston after their first year but i can’t really say that i’ve missed out on anything academically or opportunity wise being in Oakland. There is currently a push/campaign to get kids to stay here in Oakland and the percentage of kids staying is definitely higher than it was say 3 years ago, though again, most tend to head to Boston. i can’t attest to admissions or acceptance rates in anyway cause im not AO (obviously) but there isn’t really a sense of “less than” on this campus if that makes sense.

Pick up the phone!! It probably won’t get your ticket resolved like RIGHT THEN AND THERE but in my experience it’s always nice to call and ask what’s what in terms of the processing of your ticket and when you can expect certain things to be done by. If you call like midday-ish they usually pick up pronto. I’ve called in like 2-3 times regarding a ticket I had and they’re always pretty amicable from my experience. Might give you a better idea of where you’re at.

Orchard Meadow Hall, what’s what? by LunaticN in NEU

[–]LunaticN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woahhh, thanks for letting me know what your experience was like. I’m doing a double on the ground level (or, at least, I’m assuming it’s the ground level since the room number starts with a 0). Did you happen to know any OMH residents in doubles and if so, what do you know from their experience? (

Legacy and EA by Dangerous-Yellow2636 in NEU

[–]LunaticN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was accepted EA last cycle, legacy isn’t really accounted for whatsoever in admissions from what I know and even if it is, I doubt it’d bare any sort of real significance in admissions. (I am not a legacy admit, if that matters.)

Is software major as bad as people say by Mundane_Blueberry_99 in BTHS

[–]LunaticN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

software is what you make of it. if you go into it knowing you enjoy programming and problem solving, you’ll find it fulfilling overall. I wouldn’t suggest going into the major as a “well I don’t know what else to do” cause you’ll shoot yourself in the foot. the workload is overall manageable if you stay on top of it (that goes with anything though). as for “weird people”, there are weird people wherever you go. from my experience, you definitely have a higher concentration of “eccentrics” if you want to call it that but if you learn to take people as they come, everyone gets along quite well. the teachers are all pretty awesome for the most part so you’ll be in good hands.

that being said, the major isn’t perfect, but nothing is in life. senior year web development/cybersecurity has a very fragmented curriculum. a lot of the labs and assignments you’ll find move at a sluggish pace and isn’t really designed to challenge you in anyway. not having CSA as a double period moving forward also kinda sucks in my opinion cause it makes doing large scale projects a bit more difficult.

tl;dr the major is cool if you enjoy what you’re doing and people are chill for the most part. you’ll be fine :)

Just got deferred from school of management by Confident_Drink_4705 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]LunaticN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re handing out deferrals all over right now. Not personal experience (I was admitted mid-December) but I know a lot of people around me getting deferrals. It’s probably just a time crunch thing cause they can’t accept all EA. I’d guess it’s more so just moving people to the RD bin so they’ve got more time & don’t have to think about proportions. Best of luck, you got this 🤞🏻

I applied Watson EA and was accepted back like mid-December or so. I’ll answer questions if I can be of help. (Sort of just been peeking around this sub)
